Thanks for your comments, always appreciated. Freecad can be an interesting beast, so many ways to do one thing. Glad to see you are looking the videos.
Why does the thickness operation always want to remove a face? I'd like to shell the part like CATIA or NX and only select faces to remove if i want them. I didn't follow how that was done, seemed like a lot of selecting/unselecting.
Thanks for the comments and support. For the grid if you go to the draft workbench you will see a padlock symbol if you click on this it will show you the snapping options there will be a grid icon which you can turn on and off. The grid might be a bit small around the size of a postage stamp so you can get to that in the preferences. If you get stuck in my recent video regarding rotating a object around any axis (the one with a box with hinges) I show how you can enable the grid and change the size in there. Normally navigating to the draft workbench enables this by default
Good tutorial - it's good to see different ways that you can do things in FreeCAD.

I want to hollow out an egg shape into a cube. How would I do this?
You can use the boolean cut between both shapes to create the void in the cube.
