Ife was an ancient African state which flourished in what is today Nigeria in West Africa. Ife was the capital and principal religious centre of the Yoruba kingdom of Ife, which prospered thanks to trade connections with other West African kingdoms. This video examines the Yoruba's civilization with specific reference to Ile-Ife.

Have a great day. 👍🏻🌹 Subbed you. Love history. 👍🏻💕
The present day Ile-Ife is not the same as the old Ile-Ife. There were two different Ile-Ife in the ancient past, and their compound names give an idea of aspects of their history. We know what names reflect among the Yorubas. The first Ile-Ife called "Ife-Oodaye" literally mean "Ife of arrivals to the world", and it's believed to be a land of powerful beings. The second Ile-Ife is thought to have emerged after a deluge, and its name point to that. It's called "Ife-Ooye". "Ooye" in yoruba means "survive". So, it mean "Ife of survivors". It seem people of Ile-Ife moved from one point to the other after series of events in their past and each time they chose to retain the name of the kingdom. In fact, the present Ile-Ife, named as "Ife-Oyelagbo" wasn't originally located where it is today. We can look at aspects of yoruba culture or culture/tradition of Ile-Ife today to have an idea of its past history. The Ooni of Ife must always celebrate the "Olojo festival" annually. Olojo in yoruba mean "Owner of the day". In his words in an interview I saw on UA-cam, Olojo festival celebrates the first daylight in creation as well as the owner of the day (i.e. Olodumare). He used the word "Big Bang", meaning it's akin to celebrating the first cosmic light that heralded creation. If you are in doubt of the latter, go and read/listen to the narration of the "Odu Ogunda" from the Ifa Corpus. It's a narration of the creation story of the entire universe (not the Obatala story that deal with creation that happened after the initial stages). This Odu buttresses the fact that creation of the universe was a violent event. All the beings responsible for the different aspects of that creation are named and none of the creative beings at that early stage included any of the yoruba orisas that we are familiar with. An interpretation of Odu Ogunda is available online (by Oluwo Solagbade Popoola); including UA-cam videos. We often refer to certain aspects of yoruba history as myths or legend. I suppose legend mean a story that cannot be authenticated.. If you are among those who think it is. You can head to the palace of Alafin of Oyo, where they can help you invoke or summon "Sango" (yoruba orisa symbolized by lightening) even on a sunny day,, if you are an important personality as Wole Soyinka. Professor Wole Soyinka during an event captured in a UA-cam video gave first-hand account of his experience a day he took high school students on an excursion to the palace of Alafin purposely to show them that certain aspects of Yoruba culture is real. According to him the invocation was done by one of the very elderly queens (ua-cam.com/video/KZEBVLxkxvU/v-deo.html. By the time she was done, they all had to run for cover due to the violent storm that ensued on a supposedly bright sunny day. I don't think our scholars has done enough work on Yoruba history beyond regurgitating what early European or native writers of yoruba history put down. How many sites have they dug? How many Odu Ifa have they listened to? Have they consulted Ifa to help direct them toward the right path. Only well grounded yoruba scholars can unravel the mystery that surround the history of the Yoruba people. Sadly, their western education won't allow them eat the humble pie; or their modern day religion wouldn't let them take the right steps.. For example, the individual that discovered the ancient yoruba alphabet in two shrines located in different places (one in Farasinmi village near Badagry and the second in Ile-Ife) claim that he consulted Ifa to help direct him in the right path. He was able to do so probably because he happen to be the son of one of the former Aare Onakakanfo (title of the yoruba war general in past days). He is also a yoruba chief in Benin Republic.
Thank you for your analysis though. You have indeed said it all . There's a lot to be done inorder to retrieved the true historical glory of Ile-Ife which has been lost due to corruptible individuals and countries. In first Ile-Ife'(Ife- Oodaye the first ancient people there were extraterrestrial being. They brought the knowledge from heaven and created civilisation, culture, language etc. At the time and ofcourse there was war between them and the people that survived the war came down to Ife-Ooye to settle permanently. This narrative fit into so many research done by Eric Von Daniken from Switzerland. He often talked about ancients aliens that came from the universe. Yoruba people are not ordinary human being, especially the one from Ile-Ife. More research need to be done on archaeological evidence and DNA evidence of people that lives in some places of interest in Ile-Ife. Much research need to be done on IFA and its existence. Already, so many samples have been taken away by the british that's has been very useful to them till date for their civilisation and technology. It's unfortunate that truth as been hidden away from the world. As Ile-Ife indigene myself, I knew something is very unusual about my existence and the one of my ancestors.

Oh my God, this is something for the Yoruba to think about! I love your comment. Let the Yoruba take a look at your understanding of Ife. LOL! They are constantly everywhere do not know their history and flailing everywhere. Perhaps this will help them. LOL!

But there is ab Ife bronze head which I think is way way older than the known Benin Bronzes. Please research about it.

Thank you, you can see she could not even get her story straight. I need everyone to replay her story and you will momentarily see she was lying, careful to reveal the true story, confused about the story...
This woman played some linguistic magical Houdini while talking about Oduduwa, Oromiyan, by the way, she calls it Oroyon. She always put the effects of the Benin connection would be discussed at a later time. Hmmmmmmm, Yoruba, Yariba, you guys are so confused, do not even know how to tell your history straight! Omashe oooo!
Why do you folks always poke nose into what doesn't concern you? Rather than go help contribute to your own history, you are all here distorting the narration. You are not familiar with yoruba language, that's why you are puzzled that she could pronounced Oranmiyan as Oroyon.
@@ADE-of-LAGOS Blarr, blarr, blarr! What is to understand about OROMIYAN pronunciation? It is all your way of distorting history and names. Awareness is the best teacher, you Yariba, crooked and deceitful people!
The benin connection is debatable and not accepted in Yoruba. Even if it is accepted, it is a connection to the Crown and not the Yoruba people themselves. Just like if the Yoruba version of Oranyan is correct, it does not mean Edo people are Yoruba but the Oba of Benin. Just like the Oba of Lagos is of Benin origin, it does not mean Lagosians are Edo people. The current house ruling England have Germanic ancestry, but English people are not germans. You get! So at the end of the day, it is not really foundational to Ife or Yoruba people.
@@yemiadeleke4197 Well, I give this to you saying that you are ok with your logical reasoning. As they say, everyone has the right to their opinion. However, we are FOCUSING ON THE ODUDUWA (IZODUWA) and OROMIYAN (OMONOYAN)! How all others fall in place for you, we do not care, I hope this gives you something to think about. WE ARE NOT FIGHTING THE YORUBA ABOUT THESE PRINCELY PEOPLE, BUT THE TRUTH HAS TO BE SAID, THAT'S ALL!
@@omobanedo9602 for me, I believe nobody knows the truth as yet because there needs to be some more detailed research. The Yorubas could be wrong, the Benin dynasty may have tried to rewrite history to ensure there stand on the throne was never challenged. But all I know is that it is really not unusual to have Royal Dynasties that are foreigners even the British Royal Family are of German descent. The Oba of Lagos is a foreigner too. The Benin empire's connection to Lagos is undisputed. ILE IFE remains contested not only because of how long ago this happened, but because even before Oduduw, there were other Kings in Ife. That has become general knowledge. All of the myths around Oduduwa was an attempt by him (I believe) to deify himself. He is the first Yoruba king to do that successfully. But history has it that when he died for instance, the children of Obatala (who was at some point a king of Ife before Oduduwa) tried to take the throne from the children of Oduduwa. So it's a bit more complicated. Admittedly, people have sort to over simplify things over the years and principally refer to Oduduwa as the Progenitor of the Yoruba race. That part is an historical fallacy. He did not progenitor anything or anybody. He was a King and not even the first King of Ife. The title Ooni started after Oduduwa's demise.
This woman , has been following her self, I thought she knows better, not knowing that, she is a propagandist
I always tell her that! She is trying to make money from UA-cam by bringing in some interesting nonsense stories and being at the same time being a confusionist!
"God sent Obatala to create the earth but on his way he discovered a deliciously intoxicating palm wine"
Pls where was the palm wine? Was it not already on the earth Obatala wan create? 😂😂
The woman clearly stated that this myth and all countries of the world got one.
BS. BS, BS. You can not have your whole being in myth, fool! There are stories held in myth, some water basins, oceans, trees, and so on held in myth. But to have your whole existential in myth, is all pure BS, ok!
Point of corrections, that place you call, middle East, is part of Africa
Ile ife was never a kingdom, till date ile ife still a village. not every south west migrated from ile ife, you can ask oba of ugbo land and lagos. It's all propaganda. Can you tell us the meaning of oduduwa in Arabic language or Egyptian language? And another says we are from Egypt. I somehow believe that of Egypt. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with the world. History never die.
That's was a legend, not a true story .
@@waleojo9496 You are right, a legend, not a true story. But where is the true story?
Sarah Murray, do not listen to lots of internet illiterates especially from the little Benin kingdom which was a Creation of our ancient warrior King 👑 whom was once Oba of Benin, Alaafin of Oyo & Ooni of Ilé- Ife Oranmiyan all these during his lifetime. That shows you how Powerful he was. The Origin of Yoruba...Let me brake it down for you. (1) Yoruba Mythology (2) Yoruba Spirituality (3) Migration history. For every ancient civilizations like Greece, Romans & Egypt, these 3 parts are inevitable in their history, same for Yorubas. (1) Yoruba Mythology is the myth of creation story of Obatala or Oduduwa descended from haven to create the world.( 2) Yoruba spirituality is found in IFA religion , the story which claimed Oduduwa was born in Ilé-Ife. (3) Migration history, which if you do a deeper research you can find documented evidences that Yorubas migrated from somewhere in the Levant or Mesopotamia region ( Egypt, Yemen, Assyria, Saudi Arabia) due to war and thus migrated until they came to ilè-ife. The Ga adamgbe tribe of Ghana and Ewe tribes of Togo and Benin Republic attested to this oral history cos they also traced their migrations from Ile Ife.
You're free to believe anyone of these categories, just like that you're free to believe the story of Jesus Christ OR the "Big Bang" story creation of the world by scientists. As for me I believe the migration history of the Yorubas concerning Oduduwa because their are lots of traces of Yoruba culture and traditions, language, names , DNA that traced back to the Levant ( Egypt, Yemen, Assyria ,Saudi Arabia). Yoruba is the only tribe in the world that has same numbers of pantheon of gods as those in Egypt & Greece till today. Please try read ; THE ORIGIN OF THE YORUBA: THE LOST TRIBES OF ISRAEL by Dierke Lange.
Warm regards.

In Benin or igodomigodo 31 Kings have ruled before the existence of oduduwa or oromiyan
Igodomigodo were primitive people without structures until Oramiyan a Yoruba prince came to that land and brought Obaship form of governance to them, igodomigodo were never using Oba title until Oramiyan came to them,he came there and brought other forms Yoruba traditions and customs and norms to them and after a while he left and return back to his fatherland.

Why is it always you Binin people trying to cause confusion? You don't need to put other people history down in order to elevate yours. The Benin people are uniquely different from the Yorubas, likewise the history. Irrespective of the fact that an individual from the past share ancestry with both sides. You can't even compare the geographical spread of the Yorubas to Benin people. Please don't get into what you have limited knowledge in.
