This came out great! I came to this video because I have a painted rolltop desk that I want to repaint a different color. Two questions: 1. Did painting the top make it more difficult to roll open and closed? 2. Was there a reason you used a foam brush instead of a regular paint brush?
I have a small rolltop like that I’ve been wanting to paint just like that for awhile Now but was worried the the roll cover Would get stuck together and not roll up Or down, looks like u didn’t have any issues, so I’m ready to roll on
Wow. I had on just like that in my first apartment around 30 years ago. Lol. Now I wish I didn't get rid of it. I would of love it in my home. I love it.
It’s beautiful Shannon!!! You all did a wonderful job 😃 I wish this was my desk. I totally love that typewriter! My grandmother had one like that and I used it to type papers for college. No I’m not old, I just love old relics 😁
My daughter has a love of a relics like this. She loves to go antiqueing and has been wanting a typewriter for a LONG time. It need some adjusting but I know she'll be typing up a storm when it's up and running. It cleaned up very nicely!
Omg your daughter looks exactly like you!! What a great looking desk!! The Waverly paint looks Great! I have a huge roll top desk I would love to paint but it was my husband's fathers desk and he is so set against painting wood lol...but wow would it look nice painted!great job! Love this video like always!!!
Love it...I have two of these desks at my house now one to refinish and sell the other for my grandson...the contact paper is great little finishing idea...I can personalize it for him! Thanks..
Omg! Love it! I m pretty sure a lot of us love old relics and we 're not old but love stuff that has a lot of character! I barely had an office in my home from a bedroom additional so that! Would be a great idea to make it like an office desk to hide messy etc. Love the old typewriter! It's so sweet you and your girl worked on it together ! 👍👍👍
I’ve been so on the fence about painting my roll top since it’s wood. But seeing this video I’m DEFINITELY going to get some paint and at least try to redo it for the heck of it. Thanks for this video and p.s ( You’ve earned a subscriber )
Omg I absolutely love this! I’ve been wanting a roll top desk but wasn’t sure how it would look if I painted it with the chalk paint so I was hesitant on getting one.. well not anymore, I see them all the time on apps like OfferUp, or at thrift stores and now I definitely want to get one! Thank you so much for showing this, it hit the spot for me!! And having the kiddos in on the project was a huge bonus! Nothing like some good quality time using some elbow grease. It’s nice for them to look back and feel a sense of accomplishment for a job well done! 👍🏻
I wasn't sure how it would turn out either. We just had our fingers crossed the paint would work ok with the roll top area and it did great! Glad this inspired you as well! Love spending time with my kiddos and they love to get in on projects every chance they get :)
great job… I have the same desk and was wondering why you didn’t paint the sides of the drawers. I think I am going to do the same thing and I just want to know what top coat did you use after the chalk paint and is it necessary .. thanks and great job
My daughter was in charge of the drawer painting and chose not to paint the sides. I think it still looks very nice! Top coat was Krylon Matte Clear Sealer
I love how your kids appreciate your creativity. I sew and my 8 year old loves that I do. In fact he made me sew his teacher end of the year gift lol. But I think it's awesome when kids appreciate what we do and pitch in. I love that you gave this desk new life great job
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who painted over their roll top desk! I was worried about painting the roll top portion but seeing as how you did and it came out with no problems, I'm less worried. Do you have any tips on how to get the roll top to open and close smoothly after the paint is applied? Or did you not have that problem at all where it doesn't stick?
It was no problem painting that roll top portion. I turned out great! Doesn't crack or anything. The desk sort of had a problem "sticking" before so it's not any better with the paint. We want to add some beeswax in there to help with that problem and get it moving smoothly.
Thank you so much for the reply! All I have to do is go ahead and finish painting and add back the hardware. Mine is the total opposite from your daughter's desk. I'm going for charcoal gray --close to black. Thanks again for the advice~ :)
Still a beautiful piece to have in her room.

I'm curious why the top wasn't painted. The contact paper will not be very durable....
What products did you use I want to paint one for holding workbench and modeling hobbies
This is beautiful. Did my moms desk but now we can’t open it. Any thoughts on what to do
As always AWESOME IDEA THANK YOU for SHARING LOVE LOVE LOVE the way this turned out.....

I have a hard time painting heirlooms too. Totally get that. The paint gives it such a fresh look though. Thanks for your sweet comment :)

Thanks for the sub! Hope the desk is a success for you too!
Did you have to sand?
Did u sand it?
Hi Shannon, beautiful desk, nice addition to your daughter's room.....tfs
The desk is awesome! Thanks for sharing your beautiful daughter and son.
Turned out Beautiful. Was nice your daughter helping.
Do you ever spray the paint
Usually no. I like to spray paint with the oil rubbed bronze on metal, but usually chalk paint I brush on.
Looks awesome! What spray did you use to seal?
Real wood or pressed corrugated?
I think it was pressed
She is your twin! Beautiful job on the roll top desk!

Really cute, great job to your kiddos 🤗💕
Omg so cute ,great job ...👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Turned out great. To bad the typewriter didn't fit. Maybe you could find a vintage typing table. I've seen some nice wood ones.
Oooo! I'd love one of those!
Absolutely beautiful! Our daughters look the same age. Mine keeps getting into the scrap wood pile and painting away. Great job to all of u. Tfs!
Oh love that!
great job… I have the same desk and was wondering why you didn’t paint the sides of the drawers.

Love when kiddos can get in on the projects. Great learning experience and keeps their creativity alive :)
Another great project! I love how your kids join the fun. Happy belated birthday to your daughter!
Aw! Thank you! I will pass your message along to her
Turned out beautiful! You all did a great job! 😊
Oh I love that typewriter. I learn how to type on the same one that my Mom did that was like that it really works your fingers. And I love the desk.
It is a long push to get those buttons down! Still working on getting it to work right. Just needs some tweaking.
Super cute! Love the typewriter!!
Cute! I bet she'll really enjoy that. (I hope you show us how to make the macrame the wall too :) )
Ha! It's just yarn and ribbon hung from a branch for the woods :) Easy project my daughter did for her room. Cute right?!
Looks amazing well done
You need to get a paint gun from harbor freight for $15 best investment I ever made
YESSS, on my to buy list. I have a Wagner but always a paint to clean. I think Habor Freights would be easier
this really came out amazing* you all did a fantastic job* its gorgeous*
Thank you!
Thanks Shannon😊
its nice
Beautiful!
I like ! Nice job!! Now all you need to find is an older chair to refinish for the desk..👍😊
YES! I would love that
Did you have any issues with the rolltop sticking after being painted? I am painting an appliance garage rolltop and it is almost unusable.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who painted over their roll top desk! I was worried about painting the roll top portion but seeing as how you did and it came out with no problems, I'm less worried. Oh I bet it's beautiful! Tag me on instagram if you'd like! I'd love to see it when you are done @TheDailyDIYer
When painting with chalk paint, so I need to sand first of not?
No need to prep the surface with chalk paint. Isn't that great!? Just clean it well and it's made to stick to about anything.
