It is an absolute pleasure dancing with you on both the social and competitive floor 😊 you are so attentive in the dance and your lead is so clear without being imposing. I was so nervous in that competition but your comfortable lead allowed me to calm down and hear the music. I am so glad I got to dance with you! I absolutely agree with you on competitions. You have explained it so succinctly 😊 I am looking forward to more of your videos!
Great video and great comments/thoughts on your competition experience. I agree with most of your comments, making finals is not a must have and depends on so many different factors you can`t influence (at least not to 100%). not making finals shouldn`t lead to a decrease of motivation, even the opposite -> train on your weaknesses (based on your dance-video review and the mistakes you made) and try to avoid the same mistakes in the next dance. That`s the way you can can proceed and grow in your skillset.
I've never competed but hats off to you and everyone else with the courage to compete. And congratulations on doing very well in this dance that looked amazing =). If I ever competed, I'd have to just keep reminding myself during the event of the wise words of Mr Miyagi and try my best to not forget to breathe and just see what happens.
I'd love to know more about your competition choices. Do you attend events but choose not to compete, or are you unable to attend many, or any events? If you choose not to compete, what would be the main reasons? Also, just asking because I know a lot of people that choose not to compete, but I'm always interested to know why.
I mostly choose not to compete because the travel requirement and my work leave balance. But there were two events I can remember that were hosted within two or three hours of driving time from me that I considered attending but ultimately didn't do. I remember the first event had a dystopian health testing requirement that I would not have subjected myself to and the most recent event required payment through some swing dance specific app which I didn't want to download and use. I certainly hope not all events are like those two and that one day there is one close enough that I can attend to see what they're like.
@@maxpower8052 The travel and time off expenses can really add up, so I definitely feel your pain there. Regarding the app - Every event I have attended uses an app called 'Dance Convention' - which you can use on desktop and your phone. That app manages not only registration and payment and links to your WSDC number - which you will get once you decide to compete, but also helps find partners for Strictly Swing competitions which is awesome, as well as giving you all your competition entry information, including your judges scores, if you're called back for finals etc... I'm a big fan of that app as it makes life easier, so if you do decided to go to an event in future, I highly recommend the app (and as a software engineer, I can tell you it feels pretty secure and works well 99% of the time).
@@maxpower8052 You're welcome, always nice to chat WCS! Thanks for sharing your feedback too. I'm so glad those over-reaching health tests/measures have gone. I too decided I wouldn't attend an event if they exist.
Great to hear from you Matt - would love to get to DC and hopefully bump into you some day on the dance floor! Thank you for the compliments :) I'm glad you enjoy them.
