    I'll have to try this, great share. I find Frame and Connection (as a combo) quite elusive. As an intermediated EC Swing student (lead), there is a handful of follows that I have immediate frame/connection with. I just try to use "good Lindy/Swing posture." They sit back into my hand on their backs. We become fairly locked. So my frame is dependent on the follow having a sense of sitting into my hand on their back. I don't know how to get the other follows to "just do that." I can't say too much about it to them or else it sounds like I am "teaching" them, but they miss out on what this dance is all about.

      It can be for sure! There are a few things that will help develop that skill and that is to spend some time as a leader focusing on feeling the followers body weight and moving them into different positions in closed hold. I share that in an earlier video; ua-cam.com/video/X1YYonMIPSw/v-deo.htmlsi=ddRNYHeXCPeqez_T Then work on shaping the follower into the over-rotation using the second hand connection on the elbow/forearm. PS: It also helps if your followers know about over rotating :)

    Is each dance lib one style, or does each lib represent a different set of teachers? Cuz I'm only interested in WCS myself. If it's pay for each teacher then I feel it's overpriced.

      Each DanceLib library is for the whole style and includes all the teachers. So for me, I only use the 1 Dancelib style which is WCS, and get access to everything taught under WCS. Hope that helps!

I'm a mere newbie in the WCS world - about 3 months in, and so I don't suspect *much* of what you're sharing to be attainable just yet (still in the mental mode of trying to make sure my feet are moving somewhat appropriately) but boy do I love what you're saying. J’em, yes? I’m not sure I understand here what constitutes a slide. I expect a slide to involve gliding your feet on the floor. Are they (J’em) redefining or adding another definition of a slide?

    • @SteveFitz
      @SteveFitz 3 місяці тому

      J'Em use the analogy of water moving through a Pipe, down a Slide or having the ultimate freedom of he Ocean and they use that analogy with the way you connect physically with each other (primarily hand holds, but could also be hip, back etc...). A Pipe directs water where it wants it to go and the water must follow the pipe. A slide has an open top where the water can move around within the slide, up and down the sides etc... and may change direction how it feels while still travelling down the slide. Ocean is where the water can do whatever it likes and move however it likes and has total freedom. In Australia, we use the terminology; 'Active connection' - which would be Pipe - where the connection is stronger and the leader keeps an active connection all the way through a pattern which gives little opportunity for a follower to change something. 'Passive connection' - which would be Ocean - where the connection is extremely light so a follower may do anything they like. For a lot of dancers, they use Active on the anchor, then once the movement is initiated they switch to Passive (on the 3&4) then back to Active on the anchor again. Slides, is similar, but the follower would then communicate a change on the 3&4 where they may signal a change in the connection where they are changing something... then once they complete the change, they signal a change again to passive and the leader may become active and initiate/redirect then switch to passive and the follower might then go active and change something (rinse and repeat). Essentially, that's how J'Em get creative in their partnership where each of them allows the other to move and they play off each other over and over. I hope that makes sense :)

    • @SteveFitz

      This would be worth asking a local teacher who is a follower, but my answer till then would be yes. It's not a strong squeeze, but it gives some resistance to movement which gives greater control for a lead and is especially helpful in preps/rides etc. But definitely ask a local follower who teaches for clarification :)

    I really enjoyed the message in today's video and watching you both dance together. I am going to see if I can find a dance partner to try this out. So far though, I would say I feel like I perform my best in a dance partnership when I am on top of my diet and training contralateral movements like crawling. I just feel the connection in my core when these two things align and I lead and adjust to my partner so much better when I can feel her subtleties of movement in my core. These two things have been all over the place the last few months for me but I am trying to improve both.

    • @SteveFitz
      @SteveFitz 9 місяців тому

      I hear you. My core is on and off throughout my dances. I think that's a result of me specifically training to engage my core in moments of certain moves. EG: Every dip I have my core engaged and when I am behind my follower in a cut off it's engaged so my follower can feel my movement and have awareness of where I am. Other movements I know it's engaged without me thinking about but I would like it to be permanently on whenever I dance. I remember Heejung Yung telling me she began to train her core right around the time she made it into Advanced level and it would be on and off. So, like me right now, she said she would actively think about it during her dances and realise it wasn't engaged, then engage it... rinse and repeat throughout a dance. She told me she only really achieved a permanent core while dancing when she made it to All Star level. Which was encouraging to me to hear - great technique takes time to develop.

    • @SteveFitz
      @SteveFitz 9 місяців тому

      Great perspective. I forgot to add that this training is specific for competitions where too many 'basics' can penalise me. In saying that, I also don't want to go for chocolate all the time as it can be overwhelming for the follower. Striking a balance is important which I think is what you're saying - and I totally agree with you. As a side note: When I dance socially, basics are great :)

      The music playlists are linked in the description. I'm in bed, eyes shut and I wear an eye mask - so I'm in a very relaxed state. I think also it's because I'm visualising while listening. ❤ I was today years old when I discovered you can find the description for a “short“ by pressing the three dots at the top. Otherwise, the description is hidden to me. My ritual is to visualise to music in the morning before I meditate. I usually visualise a variety of dancing. Solo dancing, Bachata, West Coast swing, tango, etc., I sometimes visualise specific techniques, but normally, I’m visualising dancing and enjoying a good partnership and connection (except obviously the solo dancing is more about imagining strength, agility and flexibility.). At night, I sometimes visualise dancing or strength training. However, I find listening to music while visualising is very stimulating. That’s why I do it before meditation because the meditation brings my mood back to a more even feeling. I suspect visualising to music at night would be too stimulating. I will report back if I try it.

    • @SteveFitz
      @SteveFitz 11 місяців тому

      @@ManifestingItAll I visualise lots of different things throughout the day, but at night to music as I'm tired and most relaxed is probably the best time. I have no other focus then and as I begin to get more sleepy I decide to turn off the music and I fall to sleep very quickly. Like you, I visualise my partner dances - most often in competitions but I have also done it when I was performing routines.
