Thank you so much for this particular subject. Lots of channels like Jeff Williams and 911mining have shown the smaller veins between mines and I always wondered if a prospector from today would do alright where as it probably wasn’t worth the old timers time.
I wonder the same thing about diggers holes. A hill can be riddled with holes, but say only 40% of the hill has actually got holes. Could you dig down in between holes in an area they worked really hard and have it produce? I always wondered why they put a hole where they did and not 1-2 meters in any other direction. You got a whole bunch of new chisels and wedges, maybe dig a new hole and run the material?
    Great video as always!

Quality video 🍻. Have you thought about dissolving some of the host rock to expose the gold better and create a beautiful specimen? Species are easier to remember the "find", interesting to look at, draw in a premium price, and once you crush it .....it's "just" gold lol. Now having said that it's whatever floats your boat and...... gets views. Ok now i have to go here......mick is good at finding wedges but can he pick one🙃😁

Outstanding video! I need a PI machine, have a GM1000 and love it (still learning after a full year of detecting and prospecting) but often get fooled by super mineralized ground, lead, brass and awful amount trash left behind by the old timers. Spent a whole day on a 20’ x 20’ area just digging up trash the GM1000 shows as non ferrous or bounces around between ferrous and non ferrous. Can be super frustrating but must keep the persistence. I did find my first piece of gold and the fever is now firmly engrained. Keep at it sir! I enjoy your videos. Thank you 🙏

Morning Chris, Micks' gourmet chisel collection looks interesting. That one with the arc that looks like it fell out of an ancient Tyrannosaurus Transformer is very similar to one i picked up near Bathurst last year. The little stubby pointed one however, looks a lot like a blacksmiths punch which is held in a pair of tongs. The other one just looks like any old lost cold chisel. Maybe a blacksmiths' was set up with the mine to keep up with the on going demand for tools? Who knows, I found it interesting just the same. Thanks Mick, thanks Chris.

I was thinking the same thing. Sort of like when you find a stone tool, like a scraper. You are holding in your hand something that someone long gone and forgotten trusted to carry them through another day of tasks to survive. That's shaking hands with History.

I was set to get out this weekend but my GM1000 has not arrived as yet from geelong hopefully soon.
Couple question with the GM1000 IT APPEARS to be the smaller coil you use any reason why?
Any benefit going to the bigger coil i think is the 8 inch.
Third question relates to crushing so i will wait for that.
As always awesome information keep it coming learning heapes here.

    • @Jake12220
      @Jake12220 4 роки тому +1

General rule if thumb is the bigger the coil the deeper it penetrates, but the smaller the coil the more sensitive it is.
If your hunting big gold you tend you run big coils, small gold near the surface small coils.
In this area they were hunting for a reef breaking the surface and gold lying between nearby reefs so the gold was likely shallow and if they find patches of small gold then they can cover the same area later with a big coil to see if there is anything deeper.
Honestly small coils in areas with lots of trash make for a better day. Digging halfway to China for a bit of old scrap steel gets tiresome really quickly.

hi, Chris glad to see a way to enter the give away without facebook. I closed my account 5 years back, owing to having to fight a legal battle for workers comp. I just wanted to tell you I was out detecting behind Oberon NSW 3 weeks back, as I was driving back through the forestry, I was looking across a creek at the ground looking for quartz blows for a different day. When I noticed a large black feral cat stalking across a clearing. I thought to myself shit that's the biggest feral cat I have ever seen so i stopped the ute and was watching it, it then occurred to me that i was a good 800 m to maybe a k away and the cat i was looking at was larger than a German Shepherd dog. I know this sounds like crap mate but I have bow hunted for over 40 years and bagged some huge feral's over the years the biggest I got weighed 32 kg and was as big as a Labrador but it was a tabby like cat. Anyway's back to it, I could see a road on the other side further down where the cat was headed, so I quickly drove down and over the creek and parked the ute. I didn't have my bow with me but I figured I would just go and check this thing out, I was down wind so I started working my way towards where I thought the cat was coming. I entered an open glade area and was about 15 m in when on the other side of the Glade about 30 to 50 m away the cat entered the glade, it was a !@@#$ panther!, It stopped and looked at me, we both froze for a few seconds then it slunk off down along the creek in the blackberry and tree's and scrub. I am 6'3 and 90 kilos and this cat was as long in the body as me and at least as heavy maybe more, Massive head jet black it was slightly higher in the shoulder than the back and more heavily muscled in the front it didn't have a externally long tail but it was thick to the end. I didn't follow as I was unarmed and I did not want to get any closer to this thing in an ambush scenario. Both myself and my second son went back out there last Friday and took our bow's, (not to kill it, just for protection) and some plaster of paris to cast prints or track it and get some definitive proof, but we got nothing. Saw some scratches on the ground and some tree marking's but they could of been anything, maybe deer or cocky's nothing definitive. I even had my phone on me the day I saw the bloody thing but I was so gobsmacked, that I didn't even get a shot or footage, feel like an idiot. I had heard the stories but I just thought it was all crap, but not now!. I packed a big blade into my prospecting gear now cause I go out alone and I wouldn't want to come across this thing without something to defend myself with. Oh and after searching about we went back to a favored bedrock corner so the young bloke could get a nap and wait for the afternoon trout bite (no luck there, drought has broken but the fish are not on the bite) so I did some crevassing. This corner was picked clean by the old timers but it yields gold as it is still washing down the creek from a reef near by, That's what I am looking for with SDC. I was getting really nice chunky gold but it was only in a 6 inch steak, so I was looking at the bedrock closely I need glasses nowadays, anyway got a sunbaker in a dimple on the rock, only small about 10th of g, put me back on the line of flood gold too so that was nice. Cheers champ keep an eye out when your remote, but then again you got Grizzly so he would let you know!.

@@VoGusProspecting I've thought about it a lot since seeing it, and my theory is that they come from the gold rush days, not from escaped circus animals or mascots from army units. There would need to be a few for a viable population and they only live around 15 years. I reckon they are from illicit exotic animal trade possibly by Chinese, diggers as they are known to trade in those kind of animals and there was little or no regulation back then.

When you scoop up some material and wave it over the metal detector. You pour some into your hand and wave it again if you get a signal you dump what you have in your hand. And repeat what if you have more than one piece in the scooper? 7:50 minutes into vid

      This is 100% possible!
Normally you can hear double targets before you start scooping. However this is an oversight on my behalf and I'll change it up a bit.
