Camcorder footage of London on a family trip with my father and brother, shot on 4th August 1993. Nothing amazing but thought (as it's mind-bogglingly almost 30 years since it was taken) something might be of interest.
I was 13 years old when I took this and the high street record store was a religious ritual. So weird to think both the flagship HMV and Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street are long gone, when here they were the biggest entertainment retail stores in the UK. Also keep your eyes / ears out for a pre-London Eye Southbank, Jurassic Park, BT Phone-boxes, a lonely looking Canary Wharf Tower (One Canada Square), The Queen Mum, Pre-Crossrail/Elizabeth Line Centre Point area, a dissing of the Tories, an anecdote from my father about the fate of the GLC's (Greater London Council) County Hall premises and some popular artists of the day. Oh and the fashion of course.
    So 90s!!! Obviously.
A similar “vlog” 1990s style video by me of an 18 - 30 style holiday in Majorca, Spain - 1998 can be seen at this link here:

1993 seems so far away but so close at the same time in this

London was brilliant in the early 90s. I remember it well and like others commenting, here I can only wish I had the foresight as you did to capture it as it was back then. Thank you for sharing this!

Great to have this longer cut. All the elements of videography, documentary, journalism etc are there: setting the scene, establishing shots, a peppering of commentary, the journey, the scenery....the story of the day and of the times themselves. Brilliant. The three of you all play your parts in making this piece memorable to so many - who don't even know you. I wish I had the foresight when I was 13 to do such a thing. RIP your father and respect to you and your (mute!) brother; immortalised well beyond the bounds of Enfield and London, 1993.

So incredible for me to see this. I live right in central London very close to Victoria Station and walk those streets most days. I was only born in 1991 but i still remember it looking like that later in the 90s. It really feels nostalgic and triggers many old memories. Great little bit of classic footage thank you!

this makes me so nostalgic. I was only 4 in this year but we used to go on the train into London from Slough regularly, always enjoyed it. thank you for the trip back in time x

Thanks for sharing this. It's really nostalgic, but also it must be very personal to you. Your brother seems so out of his comfort zone, but he seems so sweet. especially when you ask him if he's OK and he says yes. Bless him. A day out in London is never easy for an introvert.

Thank you for putting up the longer version. It's a wonderful snapshot of life in the 1990's.
Your Dad's commentary on politics and society is spot on.
Compared to today's Vloggers your reel has a raw authenticity about it.
You have created a very important piece of social history....time to work my way through the rest of your camcorder footage ....

In what seems like a moment, a factual recording of everyday life now can become a poignant reminder of special times past.
You were both his greatest achievement.

Love how the brother’s resting face always looks disinterested meanwhile he actually seems to be having a good day out lol.

So poignant and powerful.. what a fantastic and inspirational video, it would have been hard to imagine just how meaningful it all was once your began that journey and filmed it , given it was filmed in 1993 Pre-UA-cam and the "Tik.. ( not a big fan of the) Tok" media dominance... it is an outstanding piece of filmography thanks for sharing - a tribute to your dad

Awesome footage. You did more with a camcorder than I ever did outside of my own home. Great to see what Enfield and Wood Green looked like as I used to remember.

7:48 Big Ben chimed at 3pm on 5th August 1993, my 12th birthday. This video was also filmed 12 years before UA-cam existed.

The exact month we moved from Cornwall to London when I was 13, a hugely formative time for me and this video captures that time so well.
It’s like a Time Machine, thanks for this 👌

Oh is it really? I liked that branch in particular, how it was narrower and over 3 floors, I believe, giving the effect of being in a ‘music shop in house’ set up.
