This another hit song from the A of A&M records. It was such a big song for our R&B department that we took this song all the way up to number one, on the Radio and Records Urban Charts. Thank you , Herb Alpert , John McClain, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis and our amazing A&M R&B Promotion team.
This song was a great fusion of jazz and New Jack Swing!!!. Great job who did the greatest pair of the Soul, R&B even New Jack Swing: Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, of course!!!. Great music masters!!!.
Teddy Riley created New Jack Swing, not Jimmy and Terry. They had a sound known as the Minneapolis Sound, which was pioneered by Prince...which is where they got their start. 🙂🙂🙂
Nah this ain’t New Jack Swing this is that signature mid late 80’s Minneapolis Sound very much in line with what Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis was doing for Janet at the time.
I still have the original 7 inch of this I bought back in the 80s - always loved Herb's music since been a small boy as my mum had a boxed set of his hits from the World Record Club. Recently found a great album which I've just been listening too and love how he makes every piece of music his own! Thankyou Herb for all the happiness your music continues to give and hope you are having a great Christmas!

According to an August 19, 1989 article in Billboard magazine ' HDTV Awarenes Grows As Vid Conference Nears' there was a HIGH DEFINITION version of this video to showcase HDTV in it's early days. Reminds me of the time in the early 90s when I attended a TV & Film Convention at the LA convention center and first saw HDTV, it was so crystal clear it was mesmerizing. I'm sure if we ever get an HD version of Herb's Keep Your Eye On Me, if in existence, well, that will be just as mesmerizing! The production company Rebo High Definition Studios also produced HD videos for Nona Gaye 'Why Should I Cry' which was very similar in video style and production I noticed back in the 80s. They mention a John Lennon HD video also. Let's hope we see these videos as original filmed one day, thank you Herb!
YES!! I remember this from being a kid..it was with me for years in my mind....now I finally found it. I still adore it. Thankyou! I introduced my niece to it...it's safe to say she loved it
It always amazes me how underrated this clip is comparing to technology available at that time and crap that they're serving us today despite all the knowledge and possibilities. This particular piece was actually made by Zbig Rybczynski, an ACADEMY AWARD WINNER for "Tango" who's also responsible for much more famous video to J. Lennon's "Imagine" for which he received a Silver Lion in Cannes.
This to me sounds like what would happen if Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis (along with Herb Alpert) did their take on Prince's jazz funk fusion band MADHOUSE.
I feel that, this Alpert's tune has the same note and rhythm as Janet Jackson's "What Have You Done For Me Lately?", one of her first songs from Control album. I don't mean this is a copy of another song, but perhaps if somebody can mashup Alpert and Janet together into one song, that will be great! (Keep your eye on me + What Have You Done For Me Lately)
..."Keep Your Eye On Me" (The LP) was indefinitely herb's BIGGEST R&B Album, with THREE Top 5 R&B Hits!! Jam & Lewis really gave him the FUNK! ...This Video is reminiscent of Cameo's "Candy" Vid...Herb was FORTY-SEVEN when this hit!
I remember that track from back in the day. Loved it and loved the video. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis rocked this and that rhythmic pulse on the bass is reminiscent of Jungle Love by Morris Day & The Time. Classic late 80s funk.
Everyone I talk to does not remember this song. But I do!! I was 7 years-old and I thought, "this song only says one phrase the entire time!" And it was played all the time on urban radio!

Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and Herb Alpert cutting it up!!!!!
Indeed - also sounds like Jesse Johnson is in the background along with Jerome Benton (who's dancing in the video).

this song use to come on the radio all the time when i was a kid
No no not at all this song was a hit and it opened him up to an entirely new audience. I had heard of him before but never listened to more than one of his songs but this put him on the map with a new generation.
No it wasn't. It spent 10 weeks in the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at #3. How is that underrated?
@@BamaScorpio69 this song never made the Top 40, peaked at 46 on the Hot 100. Diamonds, it’s follow up, peaked at 5. Still an excellent song though.
@@BamaScorpio69 that’s NOT the Hot 100 bruh 🥴, that’s the dance chart. Nice work though
