Up until 2000, I had a bike (bought it in 1992). Living at Woodbine & Danforth, I had the option of riding down Woodbine or Coxwell to the Lakeshore then head west along the MGT. I would end up at Cherry Beach.
My other option was to ride north on Woodbine to Cosburn, turn right until a came to a road that would lead me in Taylor Creek Park ravine. I would head west until I could enter the Don Valley bike road. From there, I would continue to Cherry Beach.
Back then, nothing was built up & from other posters uploads I could see the alterations due to the Pan-Am Games and like that ice storm we had a few years ago.
I'm 70 now & use a walker. Living in Scarborough, I've put all that behind me. All I have are my memories which I cherish.

Those are some really great trails you used. I can imagine they're quite different now, but the feelings you get from riding the trails are still the same :) Thanks so much for sharing your story. I hope you're able to enjoy those trails in a different way these days.

Thank you for sharing. Aging is so disgusting; I'm so sorry anyone has to go through it, and obviously everyone will. It's good to cherish those memories, but it makes me sad to know that eventually, your body lets you down and you are no longer able to enjoy what you used to. Sigh...idk what the point of this even was. I just feel bad for humans. Our lifespan is so limited.

This is a very well made video! I was actually looking for some add ons to my regular 75km loops, and I have never heard about the Humber River Trail until this video! Thnx!

@@seeusoontravel We used to ride the Humber River Trail since teenagers (when it started at Scarlett Road and Eglinton; it is even longer now). It predates the Martin Goodman Trail.

Humber River Trail is where we do biking most of the time

Completely agree with you in regard to Martin Goodman being #1. I'm from Mississauga and use it quite often as it connects to the Waterfront Trail here, meaning I can go from Port Credit in Mississauga all the way to Tommy Thompson with almost no road riding at all. As an almost exclusively night time rider, that's important for me. This summer, I'm going to start making trips to the Scarborough Bluffs too. Thanks for the suggestions!

    • @seeusoontravel

And thank you for the lovely comment! I love the Martin Goodman trail and was happy when they expanded it to the lakeshore Blvd eastbound lanes last summer to accommodate more riders 🙌🏻

I did the reverse! Went from scarborough bluffs to Mississauga, then took the GO train back home (from scarborough). Loved the trail since its mostly downhill if you are going from the bluffs to downtown!

I just did the lower don trail and Taylor creek trail with my friend. Our goal was these scenic statues near the prince Edward viaduct. It was our first time exploring that far and it was an amazing adventure. So stoked to find out that we hit 22km of path😍

20 years ago I was riding east along Lakeshore under the Gardiner looking for a nice left turn to reach Scarborough and cars were all turning left so I followed them because it was popular. I was riding north and looking at Don River & railway and I thought where's the Don Valley Parkway though. Then I saw this huge road sign ahead across the road which looked weird because it was like a freeway one. I just got off at Kingston Road.

Once at the bridge, you can go past a little more in mimico and it leads you on Lakeshore just east of Royal York.
You can take that to New Toronto and hop on the trails that would take you to Port Credit.

The tommy Thompson is my favourite, I offers some nice cruising and it's fun to rip down the light house hill
But I do love the valley trail and I often see tons of wildlife like deer, raccoon and ground hogs

I am from Ottawa, thinking to spend a 2-3 days in toronto cycliing, this gives a good clue, I can put 75km per day max, so Humber trail is the one. thanks, I will have to start from east end of toronto I am guessing. Yeh I think I will start from scartlet road and eglinton as someone commented.

trans canada trail a great weekend ride too. GO train to Stouffville & short country ride to Uxbridge off hwy 47 or Toronto Street, entering Old Train Tracks trail to Lindsay, Ontario; including another stretch down to Peterborough and ride back to Toronto. Beyond the shores of ancient glacial lake Iroquois.. just before lindsay, camp overnight with saturday in Lindsay or ride and check out kirkfield liftlocks at Fenelon Falls then ride to just before Peterborough and camp out with sunday in Peterborough, or riding back to uxbridge and country ride back to Markham into Scarborough. Riding to and from lake simcoe is nice too, hwy 48, McCowan or Warden.. right into Sutton or east end around Pefferlaw or Beaverton.

Is Toronto city bike friendly? And are there plenty of bike rental places? I'm coming to visit in September so thanks for this video! Greetings from Ghent

    • @seeusoontravel
      @seeusoontravel  9 років тому +3

RAVEN Hi Raven! There are a number of bike rental places. If you're familiar with the Velo program in Antwerp, we have something similar called Bike Share Toronto. In terms of it being bike friendly, it's not as great as it is in Belgium, but there are lots of cyclist who use the streets to commute. Cheers!

the eglinton trail is my favourite, I like the downtown ones as well but theres too many people in the city. since its in etobicoke, theres literally no one on it. lots of greenery and gentle hills. you pass both through the suburbs and parks. if you ride down the street some more you can even reach downtown mississauga.
