- So beautiful, I can't breathe... that is the only way I can describe the desert mountains in California. Kara and I set out to capture landscape photography and the landscape captured us. Incredible, simply incredible.
Join us as we explore the mountains and share the views, our camera settings, filter choices, conquering extreme sunlight and the endless inspiration.

Very nice video, it was almost like a Pick your own Christmas Tree Plantation, as usual super photography and thoroughly enjoyable, Thank You Rachel
Thanks Mike! I really loved it up there. The smell of pine was incredible.
RACHEL-- Even in hot deserts of California , You're enthusiastic spirit rises to the top just like in Hamilton, Ontario. So does your Beautiful photographs. Randy.
Aw thank you Randy!! What a nice thing to say! 😊
Thank you Racheal for taking us along with you, really enjoyable
My pleasure Kevin! Thanks so much!
Amazing Rachel! Love it 🙏
Thank you so much! 😊
It looks like you and your friend were having a lot of fun in the Mountains :D I would never be able to visit such a place because I cannot cope with hot weather so thanks for taking us along with you both. You captured some great images :D Teddy
Thanks Teddy! The mountaintop was so comfortable. Much cooler than the desert floor. 👍👍😊
Thanks for taking us with you!
My pleasure!! :)
Thanks :) Your video takes me back to 2006 when we visited the mountain. I can clearly remember the spectacular views and nice climate.
So beautiful up there eh Simon? The pine smell was incredible and everything just stunning.
Great video again Rachel, and what a place. I would think you were tempted to do a pano, I would have been , but held back by restrictions at the start. That would have been a great panoramic shot from high up if you can get a decent exposure. I love trees and there was some nice ones up there. We have some very wide and very old ones in England and , don't tell anyone, but I am a bit of a "tree hugger!" when I come to a tree hundreds of years old, I would have to give it a hug! which used to amuse my children loads. But a tree you can hug and also smell Butterscotch. WoW! What more could you want. Apart from a few nice photos of course. HA! You Take Care Out There, and your friend.xx
Trees are awesome!! And it’s even more awesome that you’re a tree hugger! 😄😄👍. I did do a pano but it was a cell phone pano. I did another one actually... maybe I’ll try and post them on fb or ig. 😊
I drove through Palm Springs, I never saw any of that great stuff. I saw the windmills and it was really windy. I might have to go back. Some of those views of the desert below almost like Space Shuttle like.
I kept thinking to myself that it looked like another world! And that it would be a great place to shoot a movie set on another planet!
What a lovely journey! but ohh how you must have battled with that harsh and very contrasty lighting, never the less you managed some lovely pictures, take care....thank you...
Thanks so much Des! 😊
That was beautiful, of course we dont have mountains here in Denmark, just up north in Norway, plenty there, lovely shots
Thanks so much!! I absolutely love mountains. So beautiful
Thanks for another great video! Have you tried Clip-on sunglasses? One of the most useful things I've ever bought :)
Good idea!! Thanks! 👍
Thank you Rachel for sharing beautiful vistas from your trip. Great photography in such difficult light conditions. I can not wait for a continuation. Greetings.
Thanks Maria!! :):):)
Great video Rachel, I grew up in that area and as I watched this in full screen it looked as if I was driving through the area myself! Last time I was at the Tramway was like 40 years ago! You captured the area just awesomely! Now I want to go back with my camera!
Aw thank you!! I want to go back too... and I've only just left!
Was all of the video done with the Canon and M50 with your new gimbal? Looks great.@@RachelLerch
Thank you! Canon m50, my old gimbal... crane v2 and my cell phone!
Hey to you and Kara, wow, what an experience... From that dizzy height you could nearly see your home town in Canada Rachel, lol.. You took some brilliant cool pix... I'm not envious of your holiday at all (I lie as well).... You are getting a nice tan Rachel, mind you don't burn! ... I look forward to the next videos... Bye the bye, what is the orange cord for on the LH strap on your Lowepro bag? Enjoy your time there, 'til the next time Cheerio, xx
Thanks Anthony! 😄 You’re right about the view! I think I could wave to my family from up there! The orange cord is a whistle!
Rachel, you will have to change your backpack and get one with one additional little pouch (or even big one) for me to be in the next trip with you ! Good trips are always better with additional pouch and a little friend inside ! I'm not so heavy . Great video !
😄😄😄😄👍 I’ll start looking for one right away!!
Very nice Rachel. Definitely won't find redwoods this far south. Have to go at least half way up the coast to find true redwoods. I live about 2 hours from Palm Springs, didn't know there was a sky-tram. Have to go check it out. Thanks.
Ah ha! Yes we realized about the trees once we happened upon a sign. I’d love to see the redwoods sometime. If you get a chance to do the Skytram it’s totally worth it 👍
👀 Wow, incredible is right! And you capture it beautifully. Thanks for the tour.
Aw thank you so much Mark!!
Thank you for taking us with you into that awesome landscape. What a fantastic video and images! Thank you so much. I can't wait for the next one in this series.
Thanks Wendy!! It was SO beautiful!! Talk about a stunning location! 😊
Some great images. Looks beautiful up there. Thanks.
Thank you! It really is so beautiful there.
Gorgeous Rachel! I am glad you'll are enjoying yourselves. What an amazingly beautiful place. I hope to make there someday!!
You definitely should! So beautiful!! You'd love it. Thanks Sandra.
Hello Rachel, very nice images and definitely worth the trip.
I see that the HDR is making it harder, but with bracketing you should be able to fix it ....
Thanks Libor!
excellent video, thank you for sharing, that tree sounds amazing.......I love butterscotch :)
Thanks Mark!! The tree was so cool 😎😄. 👍👍
what a great video , felt i was right there. the view was incredible and those images are fan bloody tastic , the one of the road leading to the mountains is probably my fav although they are all so so good. i really cant wait to see your astro images and your ongoing photography adventure. your going from strength to strength. great vlog rachel . thankyou :)
Thank you Nick! Thank you so much! I thought you would like this one... with mountains being near to your heart! It was so awesome there. 😊
Gorgeous sights! The dashcam or similar video at the beginning was especially enjoyable. It is bit different from our Appalachians. Ha! Thanks for sharing, Rachel.
Thank you!! :D Kara and I took turns holding the cell phone and m50 through the windscreen! Haha. it's hard to get a bad view there!
It’s the heat, that’s why you weren’t able to breath!
Hahahahaha! Could very well be!! And the crazy hills we climbed up! :D
Wow different yet spectacular sceneries! I adore the mountains and living in WA State enables access to them. Sure challenging dynamic range as it seems so bright. But I’m so ready for sun and fun having recently come out of the long gloomy winter lol. Looking forward to the astro shots!!
Sooo nice to live near mountains!! I definitely have to travel to see them. I’m totally ready for summer too 👍
Rachel Lerch definitely! The Cascade Mountains extending from BC to WA are incredible with peaks and alpine lakes. Come over and give it a visit. Would be fun to do landscape photography together.
Must be awesome! On my list now! 😄👍
I was there back in April it was 80 degrees everyday till I went on the tram it hit over 100. There was still snow on the ground uo there around the desert view trail.
Wow! Really?? That's cool and crazy. Such a different climate than I'm used to.
Yeah I come from the east coast of the US so to be out there in April when it’s 80 with like 20 percent humidity and snow on the ground was pretty amazing . I went back in May to Yosemite where it was around 40 and snowing
Awesome video and beautiful work!! 😊 I am looking forward to see more! Did you and your friend had any chance to take photos of small wildlife creatures over there?
Thank you! The only small wildlife we saw and tried to capture were a few lizards, who were pretty quick. There were a few birds too. Bunch of holes in the ground at Joshua Tree Nat. Park but I'm not sure I really want to know what's living in them? :D
@@RachelLerch You are welcome! 😊 Oh wow! 😄😊
OUCH! I can feel the pain of harsh mid-day lighting, but you managed to capture some impressive images, all the same, Rachel. Monochromatics a plus. Would be good opportunity for an instructive (how to deal with it) video. Tram top station view looked like good opportunity for a pano - did you bring a tripod? Not a ride for folks who fear heights (or have weak bladders 😂). I have the same sunglasses issues that you do - I ditch the polaroids in favor of a wide-brimmed hat and wear my regular glasses. Still hard to see camera LCD/EVF. Was that your own lens ball - nice usage and image; would love to see more?
Thanks Paul! Yeah, the contact lenses don't work for long at home, much less such a dry environment. So you're thinking a video on HDR/harsh sunlight? Good idea. I did bring a tripod. Took a pano at one of the lookouts with my cell phone. The lens ball was Kara's!
Great video!🤗 And cool to something quite different than what I'm used to in rather wet Norway. ☺
Thank you! Ooh I’d love to see Norway! Must be just beautiful!
We got some beautiful places. But so do you in Canada.😊 There are some areas quite similar I think.
I actually have some distant relatives in Canada. Descendants of emigrants in the early 1900s. But unfortunately I don't know them or where they live now.
Canada is beautiful. At some point I’d love to arrange a big meetup. Would be just awesome.
Glad you enjoyed San Jacinto. I was lucky to spend some of my time growing in Palm Springs and the areas around there - my folks owned a house outside of Palm Springs and I always enjoyed my time on the mountain. You brought back some great memories for me. d;¬{D
Thanks Tom! What a great place to spend time when you’re young! It’s so beautiful and I imagine a great place for kids to play and explore.
I was wondering if you find your 70-300 suitable for birds? Or is it too short?
I use it for small birds that come close. I like it a lot but I’m not a pro wildlife photographer. I’ve seen some out there with much longer lenses. 😊
Back in 2018 we went on holiday to Porthmadog in north wales, I always wear reactolite glasses and the one day i kept complaing to Clare that my camera wasnt working correctly with all the images in the viewfinder being dark and then i realised the glasses had darkened down and i'd forgot to remove them, got home and all the images had recorded correctly...Mike
Haha! I've done that while wearing sunglasses! Glad they came out well.
Did you know they dug a tunnel all the way through that mountain at its base about 90 years ago to provide water to Los Angeles?
No way!! So cool 👍
