Ohmygoodness! I’ve never noticed that about Birch trees❣️Now I love them even more. Thank you for sharing your day of getting out there with us. What a beautiful day, and you got some amazing photos ❣️

Amazing that the geese were so complacent--the ones who frequent our back yard (NW of Detroit) hiss at you if you get too close (but they're happy enough to eat our birdseed). The woodlands by our house are similar to Hendrie and we shoot a lot of the same stuff, although I primarily use a Lumix G9 (MFT so a 2x crop factor) as it's so light and compact yet delivers more than enough IQ for gallery-worthy prints. I generally have 18-800mm eq FL available but often keep the 70-200 mounted and leave the rest in the pack, as I'm much more interested in abstract patterns and textures than the typical "post card" scenes so many "nature" photographers seem to prefer. As Robert Capa said, "If your pictures aren't good enough, you aren't close enough."
I also try to resist the temptation to get new gear as I know it won't produce better images (although I love my new macro lens). The main thing is to enjoy nature, get a good walk in, and if you're able to make some great images from the experience, it's icing on the cake!

Loved the birch bark and what you did with it in post with the additional artwork. And yes, spring is a great awakening for us Canadians! Cheers from Calgary (currently covered in a layer of spring snow after being 20C last week).

Great shots with the 70 - 300 Rachel. The music and your natural enjoyment and love of nature and art is so nice to see. I look forward to more of your vlogs in the future and your continuous passion and skills.

I love wood like that uprooted tree stump, I've got a small collection of rescued pieces of firewood with similar textures to play with.

Rachel, when you're having fun the rest of us are as well. Your attitude and smile is so contagious and your choice of music and songs are spot on. I went through the upgrade thought process myself awhile back and came to the same conclusion. If I am getting good captures with my current equipment why spend money on something I really don't need. You have a good eye for composition and subject matter. Already waiting on your next vlog. God bless.

Always fun tagging along on your hikes Rachel, especially with camera in hand. That is a cool roots system, and loved all the texture photographs you captured. I also thought it was cute when you were photographing the geese on boardwalk and the black squirrel crossed behind you. Sneaky little fellow. Ha ha! Thanks! For taking us all along. I really need to get out there too! Happy shooting! 📷

Hey Rachel! I really enjoyed this - and especially your goal of 'just going out with my camera to have some fun'! It's so tempting to look to new gear or big plans for inspiration (very guilty here!) when all you really need is some pressure-free time with what you already have. Thanks for the reminder! I love the bark textures and patterns that you found - I never looked at birch bark in that way before. You have opened my eyes! I was also surprised to see how large that uprooted stump was with you standing beside it for scale! Thanks for the video and for being an ambassador for fun in life! :)

    Hi.
Love the concept of in it for the fun.
I have always gone close, looking for patterns. And I still do that a lot. But i'm also forcing myself to step back and take in the environment. It's hard to break habbits. But that makes it so much more important.
You are a great inspiration 😊

Rachel I always love your bubbly personality and pretty smile. It is uplifting when so much is going wrong in our world especially here in the U.S. I am proud of you for not going right out and spending the extra money to upgrade when you are so content with what you have. That is an admirable attitude to have and you do just fine with your gear. Your images are not what I would call poor quality at all. I thought about upgrading my Canon system a few times but decided to just stay with what I have and not spend that big wad of cash for the latest technology. Oh I would love to have better equipment sometimes but for now I am happy with the images I am photographing with what I currently have. I like the fact that you were observing the small patterns on various subjects. Small details and patterns are often overlooked by many.

Always lovely to see a new video from you. I've never seen a black squirrel in person - they're so different from the ones we have in Florida! The way you photographed the tree roots & bark makes me realize I need to be looking closer at the driftwood when I'm beachcombing. 😊

Really nice to see that you still have your Sony a99 II camera, I watched your review of it many years ago, when I was getting my a99 II. I been through so many cameras since selling it, the only Sony I have a connection with is the a99 II, I dont like the newer Sony mirrorless cameras, I had the a7r II and a9 II. Really thinking about getting the a99 II again and keeping it, I had alot of good pictures taken with it :) Really nice youtube video, amazing pics! gonna subscribe!! :)

Hi Rachel, great to see you out and about!! :) I should get out and about myself. Haven't done much photography lately, although the last month or so hasn't been the best. Although, I took some film in to be processed and got a call saying all four rolls were jet black!!! None of my pics came out at all!!! Seems I have a light leak in my camera, although all the seals look OK and I'm pretty certain I didn't expose the film beforehand. I was thinking it may have been the fault of where I got them processed, but what I'll do is buy some really cheap film and run it through the camera I used and see how it turns out. I'll send it to another place to get processed. Then I'll send another roll to the original place and see what happens. I might just change the seals in any case to be on the safe side of things. But, what a bummer!!! I was looking forward to seeing how my films turned out.

Just stick with the gear that suit your needs and dont upgrade just because of some youtube hype.
"New camera gear" seems to be the most discussed topic on the internet and people fall into that trap and make it even worse...
It should be photography, it should be trips, hikes...not a new lens.
The latter wont make you a better photographer and once you get over that excitement we get when buying anything new you'll just start thinking what the next thing you could get is ....
Glad you're not falling into that loop and your videos are about the joy you get by doing what you love.
