While everyone found out that you snuck up 'His Theme' in a perfect way. I can clearly hear "Megalovania" in this orchestra. Hey, You really did a splendid job!
The way this was made is beautiful, it perfectly shows the elegance of a king while also portraying the agony and sorrow of a father with His Theme enforcing that matter. With a hint of megalovania to show intensity of the battle.
I love this so much. All the leitmotifs included symbolise so much. We have ASGORE introduce us, then a theme similar to Toriel’s “Heartache”. This tells us that Toriel and Asgore once had a happy life together. Then, a huge chunk of the orchestra drops out to build up to moment where Asriel’s theme plays. The part is so small and yet tells so much, this could represent when Asriel dies in front of his parents. His parents are grieving right afterwards, and Toriel becomes enraged with Asgore’s actions, and leaves. See, music speaks to me the best. You can pull out so much and piece together a story out of it, if you try hard enough.
Wow. I'm sorta just chugging through the playlist, and while all the previous ones were impressive, I can't help but feel this kinda blows them out of the water in terms of creativity and production value. I can kind of relate... Asgore's theme is easily in the top 5 songs of the OST for me. I've heard much more bombastic versions of this theme, and some much more somber ones, but this cover has a really great subdued intensity to it that was a big part of the original song. Something about the section at 2:25 stood out to me, too, for some reason. It was just a short little segment, but it felt like the song turned back into a chiptune for a second, and then that was followed up by some bloody great harmony in the lead up to the finale (2:40). Really strong finish, especially compared to the sparser, more prosaic opening. (Also, bonus points for shunting in the main theme at 1:56 and Megalovania at 1:26. I love that shit.)
Wow you're really giving me some great feedback! Thanks for taking the time to write this dude! I'm so happy someone finally noticed the chord progression from Megalovania. I thought I hid it too well xD
I have a problem where, instead of finishing my own remixes, I just procrastinate by writing ten-paragraph essays on other peoples'. Please humour me XD
I actually wanted to see if I could get myself in as a composer for Overtale, the fan game. Unfortunately... they oversupplied themselves and have too many composers to handle. If only I discovered them earlier :(
Well shit. I'm actually a developer on the Overtale team, and, yeah, the talent we've managed to scrape up from around the internet is kinda overwhelming. Like... Alex Hull, Jeremiah George, Nyx the Shield, Dave Chirol... holy hell, getting on that team would be a bit of a stretch. My only suggestion at this point would be to get in touch with Alex Hull and see if he wants to work with you on some kind of collaboration. No guarantee it would get you into the Overtale composers, but Alex is a really cool guy and always seems open to working with new talent (I mean, fuck, he even offered to work on a collab with _me_, so you've got a damn good shot xD). Getting to now him could never hurt.
Holy crap really??? That is awesome! I've actually spoken to Alex Hull a few months ago but I've never asked to 'collab' with him. Could give it a shot. Btw what role are you fulfilling in the team?
*Dev commentary* The inital tri-chord progression was made using the brass and woodwind sections and obviously the snare drums to give the marching feel. Although initally I was just gonna have solo French Horns, it sounded too empty. I also know that the first few seconds of a song make a big impression, so it had to sound somewhat grand but not too 'epic' to ruin the progression of the song. So, I layered it with woodwinds and other brass to sound like it's filling the whole space. As it finished, I made a small transition by slowing down the phrase and cause drums to begin prematurely to signal the new verse. The snare drums were then accompanied by staccatto strings which grew in intensity before adding a trumpet for the main melody. The violin came in to get the harmonics in. Then a cresecendo of drums to transit into the main 'chorus' part which repeated twice, the second one with more drums to give it pace and a glockenspiel. Woodwinds take over before going back to the trumpet again. A sudden stop of all instruments surprises the listener and then glockenspiels and pizzicato strings solo out 'His Theme'. After that, it transits to the violins and violas which play the main theme of Undertale under the shadow of the continuous Asgore phrase. Drums grow in intensity then it falls back into the new verse with glockenspiel (again) and a legato violin. I increased the pace with rhythmic staccatto strings again, and also emphasised the loud parts with drums. And yeah... There you have it.
Wow.... thank you that's a really nice comment! Now, imagine listening to this over 500 times trying to pick out what doesn't sound right and then finding it was one note which caused an entire section to sound wrong and then spend an hour fixing everything else :/ why do I enjoy making music lol
I've heard several Asgore themes, but I have to admit this one was the best one I have heard so far. Not only does it symbolise royalty, but it also represents Asgore's truly sad story, losing two children in one night.
This entire remix is something that I've been listening to over and over again. You have captured, perfectly, the hanging dread, the sombre determination, the sorrow, the raw power of the original, and added your own beautiful spin to it. When the leitmotifs from 'His Theme' kicked in, I had a beautiful feeling in my head. When the strings played the leitmotif of 'Once Upon a Time', I got shivers down my spine. The piece is a glorious, and immensely sorrowful, yet focused composition. In short, this is absolutely beautiful. And you are amazing at it. I'd just like to say, thanks for making this, because I discovered it by accident, and it's wonderful.
Once again I'm absolutely blown away. I've been following the progression of this remix quite closely since you made it public, and I knew it was going to be something special. But you completely blew my expectations out of the water! My sincerest congratulations on such a beautiful piece of music.

I really like what you did with this track. It shows a good understanding of the theme as a whole - less of an intense boss battle theme and something more morose and somber, yet commital. It's not overly bombastic like most other remixes of this song. I found the beginning reminiscent of a funeral dirge, which is really appropriate considering. Also, can I say that 1:36 was freakin' gorgeous? The way the instruments melt away gives me chills.
