You can buy Titanium Dioxide and it will come in a powder and be 10 to 20 times stronger. This is what is used to make that paint white. Greetings from Ontario Canada just across the border.
Soooo IF a youngster heeds the advice of one (Tom) OR the other one(Jerry) yet follows through with the other's, then said younster would be considered a fool by both Tom& JerrHy.... BUTT!......... IF the YOUNGSTER heeds the advice of both Tom&Jerry, and proceeds to cut his own path in life..... THEN BOTH MEN ARE CORRECT& THE YOUNGSTER IS NOW THE WISE ONE.
My grandfather did something like this during the Depression. He built a concrete block extension off a cinder block carriage house as a home. He stuccoed the coutside with concrete, then over that he put a slurry of a mixture of mortar sand, some kind of cement mix, and some sort of white paint. It sayed on and stayed white until the building was torn down around the year 2000.
Thanks for using our Rapid Set products for your experiments Michael! We're always curious to see the different ways our materials can be used for fun projects like this. 😄👍🏼
There are acrylic paints that glow in the dark for a few hours after being in the sun or artificial lighting. It might be a cool experiment to try adding a swirl of mortar mix with that type of paint in it. Imagine a kitchen island that showed a river of green or blue running across it with the light out -- a very unusual night-light.
This particles are expensive to mix it to the whole table But if you pour it then strain it on top it would be enough or mix a small batch and add a layer of concrete mix with the glowing particles
iv seen some creators making there own white concrete using white sand , white stones and normal cement. Almost looks like marble. i bet with that epoxy trick you could trick your friends and say it is. I really like the bowl idea you had and i think im going to try that after my currant project
I tried making concrete white with the colors you use for jesmonite I was impressed you don’t have to add much but you add to the water then put the concrete in. I love your videos you are too funny 😂
i know concrete additives are acrylic. latex paint is basically a thinned down version of acrylic. I wonder if paint can be used as an additive. it makes concrete flow a lot better
Great video. I’ve been thinking about adding paint to a concrete resurfacer to add some color. Trying to get a lighter shade of brown; then adding a sealer for a floor in a patio. I was concerned about how adding the paint would affect the bonding ability, strength and durability. This video showed that the strength and durability seem to not be affected. Thanks!
There is white Portland cement. And as mentioned in the comments. There is pigments designed for concrete. Buddy rhoads makes some, kodiak pro, plus a few others. GFC mixes tend to be white Portland based.
I never would've tried this experiment because all the experts said it wouldn't work. But I like that soft grey. Now I'm thinking that it's worth a shot. Might be fun. And I will NOT forget the mould release... lol!
Anyone else not getting notifications?? I only get your notifications about once every 6 months 😔 I have all videos checked also. Anyhow, I love your content and wish you made more videos.
I don't either. I occasionally binge his videos hoping that the "UA-cam Algorithm" will take note... but so far if I don't go looking for new videos, I do get to watch them.
Do a concrete guitar body and put purple in it! 💜 Maybe add another color (poured over top)when it's in the mold to get some stripes or some other pattern to form
Pretty cool. The shamrock turned out great. The bowls aren't bad. Its not white white, but its white enough i think. Cant wait for something like blue or pink. Yellow might be interesting.
@@lvlalarky1 probably, but I'm not sure how the latex would affect the strength of the concrete. It may interfere with the hydration/curing causing structural weakness, but I'm not a materials engineer
So evidently there was this famous architect, Neb I think, who would mix cement with only latex paint. He would then make a frame, cover it with 3 layers of window mesh and then paint the latex concrete onto it to make roofs for disaster shelters. The concrete roofs were super thin and lightweight but strong and durable. The latex cement slurry is strong enough to last for 10 years plus in the sun without too much damage. Because they use latex and not water, shrinkage is near non existant, as much of shrinkage is excess water evaporating from the cement. And the waterproofing capabilities are top notch. So yes, add all the paint.
Is there a rasp or 40 grit sandpaper that you could use to round over the top edges of those bowls? What is your recommendation? Thanks for this experiment.
Since you've asked for ideas.. how about a very elaborate bird bath? I'd also suggest adding some glass fiber reinforcement. Maybe even add some LEDs... And fire. You have to have fire shooting out of it somehow! 😂😂. Just kidding! LoL. But I am serious about the elaborate bird bath with your colored concrete methods.
Man, I swear Michael is a Sith Lord or something.. this is exactly the experiment I was going to try next to get my concrete more white - i was going to try to use Titanium oxide additive but let's see how this goes.
I'll tell you about a technique I follow First, put two-thirds of the paint with one-third of the cement and cover the mold’s inner shell. Please wait until it hardens, then add the concrete without any color.
I did this last year after seeing a paint recycling effort using latex leftover paint in concrete. Turns out the latex makes the concrete even stronger.
What about adding a metallic paint or something with a fine glitter? Modern Masters makes a metallic satin in a few different colors. I've used their pearl white on a few projects for my daughters. With a white primer, I achieved my desired result of a pearlescent finish. I'm not sure if all of their colors result in the same finish, but I think it would make a beautiful countertop if the ratios were correct.
Have you thought about how to make a set of concrete stairs? I have 8-9 stone steps I want to tar up and make them all concrete. Would you be able to walk us through making a set of stairs with the molds, the pour and how to get everything set right?
Impressed with your test, makes it fun and real. Would have been nice to have those bowl pop apart with some release agent however. What does the FLOW product do for the mortar mix?
Interesting project with the paint combined with concrete, but I desperately need an updated video on the dry pour kitchen countertops! As for a project with paint (infused?) concrete, I wonder if you could actually use those 3 dimensional molds to create small statues? The fact that the bowls turned out almost marble like after coating them with resin would probably make a statue pop.
Nice coloring even if its not totally white. But how about mixing acrylic paint in plaster - does it react in the same way or....?? ...and how about mixing sawdust (or similar materials) with plaster or concrete to make it lighter and easier to move....??
This is great! You may be onto something. Remember how Carrara Marble Epoxy countertops became a trend? It might be an excellent idea to consider as you test. I don't know how you would do veins in the mix, but you could be onto the next big trend, my friend! 👍
Good stuff sir. Have you considered trying a metallic paint? How about trying an automobile paint? Maybe you could make a planter with candy apple red exterior and white leather interior?
Obviously it'd be better to start with white concrete if you want to color concrete, or especially have white concrete, but adding the white paint works if it's what you got. For further projects, I'd like to see either something more intricate, or more artistic, maybe something more sculptural using colored concrete. Alternatively, I'm sure you've seen the "marbled" effect by swirling colored fluids, such as on marbled paper, or as is popular with some paint art or resin art, particularly from several years back. I wonder if you could do something like that with different batches of colored concrete.
That’s pretty cool. If you still have that Shaper Origin, carve a negative logo or sign and fill it in with cement. Or create a cement styled planter to look like wood. On another topic, I heard that cement used as a fire pit could explode under extreme heat. Is that true?
Out of curiosity.... Does mixing paint into the concrete make it hold additional layers of paint later? Bc paint can peel off of cement and concrete sculptures.... but if you have paint in the mix already, that could act as a primer and bonding agent; so that you can add painted designs onto a mold/sculpture for even more flair.
Dude! you are so clever. What about a raise garden bed? Maybe not a big one, but a taller one. like a foot deep or more. Say 4ft by 4ft by 1-2 ft tall? you know... herb garden size-ish. Wait what if you line the mold with leaves? would it make an impression? so that might not be a coloring video but still....
You compared the white color to marble. Is it possible to make faux marble using mortar and paint? Like with the whiteness and gray streaks? Say for paving stones or tile.
Can you please make a staircase molded molded steps and molded risers because I need to remake my two stairs they are rotting (wood) and they are 6 step and I need to get 2 pallets of 80 pound concrete
you mentioned that it looked like marbel when it cured, could you actually mimic a marbel color pattern with 2 or 3 separate small batches of concrete with different colors and then drag a a small dowel thorugh it
Did you "add" the paint or "replace some of the water with the paint" ? Seems pretty basic, but it wasn't clear... in any case, sure, you can only make light gray at best.
What about using thiner paint, like an oil based, and eliminating the water? Would that possibly give you a whiter color. I don't think you can get an absolute white, but may be whiter.
Here's a challenge... inspired from this video.... can you mix various colors of concrete and try to reproduce marble slab.... vein and all. That would be an awesome mo ey saver if you can do it.... no???
Hey there... watch how you talk about Glidden Premium. All joking aside, I actually prefer Glidden for interior walls. If I use Behr... I really have to thin it. It's some thick paint that tends to sag on the walls and increase orange peal effect. I do like behr for exterior though! And their ultra white is superior/ brighter than Glidden white.
My question is this..... Can I acid etch or dye/stain a floor leveler mix to get it from the dark dark color, back to a concrete looking color..... To then ruin all the hard work I just did in order to acid etch/ stain/ dye the new surface back to a darker color. Or will the paint not allow the acid etch to work the same.?.... The Wife wants darker floors& likes the Normal concrete that's etched/ dyed/ stained with a charcoal color. But the leveler is so dark to start with that I'm not even sure it'll change at all. Lol
You can buy Titanium Dioxide and it will come in a powder and be 10 to 20 times stronger. This is what is used to make that paint white. Greetings from Ontario Canada just across the border.
True, but the latex paint makes the bowls less-brittle. There are latex and vinyl additives for concrete that achieve similar results.

40 year bricklayer here.....white cement with silica sand...small amount of hydracated lime...this will make a very white cement.
My grandfather did something like this during the Depression.

Don't add water, the paint is already mostly water. If it's too thick add more paint.
i know concrete additives are acrylic. latex paint is basically a thinned down version of acrylic. I wonder if paint can be used as an additive. it makes concrete flow a lot better

This was a great video! I have so many ideas swirling in my head from all your concrete experiments.
This just opens up so many ideas for concrete in my yard… I also think latex blended in makes it more waterproof.
Pretty cool. The shamrock turned out great. The bowls aren't bad. Its not white white, but its white enough i think. Cant wait for something like blue or pink. Yellow might be interesting.
maybe more paint would equal more color?

Have you considered adding Mica powder to alter colors?
cool project. drilling hole throught the bottom of the bowls and using a dowel and some spacers, those would make some neat flower pots.
Less water, more paint. White might need to substitute all the water for paint.
My 9 yr old son was asking if we can add latex paint to concrete to color it :) thank you for this video. This video is awesome lol
Since you've asked for ideas.. how about a very elaborate bird bath? I'd also suggest adding some glass fiber reinforcement. Maybe even add some LEDs... And fire. Can you do this please for a counter top same ratio and paint
Man, I swear Michael is a Sith Lord or something.. this is exactly the experiment I was going to try next to get my concrete more white - i was going to try to use Titanium oxide additive but let's see how this goes.
Try glow in the dark paint
i loved this and think you could be happy with a white-ish bowl
Merry Christmas to you and your family from the Winze family in Hutchinson Kansas
can you make some sort of multi-color?
Love watching you man!!
I see you have a height did disfunctional issue too.
It's fine/challenging at times
Latex is actually used as an additive for concrete mix. It helps with flow and strength

Would love to see how a BLUE concrete project would turn out! Videos are great!
Heeeyyyyy Michael! 💕
Have you thought about how to make a set of concrete stairs? I have 8-9 stone steps I want to tar up and make them all concrete. Would you be able to walk us through making a set of stairs with the molds, the pour and how to get everything set right?
Ohhhh man go to Cajun County Living... they just did a huge set of dry pour stairs! Absolutely impressive...
Interesting experiment Michael! Like how you got some of your aggression out on those concrete bowls! 😂😂
Still would love to see you try straight paint tinter to get deeper/brighter colors!
Glidden white paint is NOT truly white when dry. It dries a grayish tint. I’d do this test again using something like Behr and see what happens.
I wonder if the paint does anything to the porosity of the concrete? Maybe you wouldnt need a sealer or at least as much. This is super intriguing!
Good morning Sir. 👊
Impressed with your test, makes it fun and real. Would have been nice to have those bowl pop apart with some release agent however. What does the FLOW product do for the mortar mix?
I love your videos ❤
You make it look fun

I do like the way you work
Can you do a hardness test and would you do countertops out of this adding latetext paint
I wonder if this method would work for resurfacing concrete with a paint color??? 🤔🤔🤔
cool video actually does black paint work?
This is great! You may be onto something. Remember how Carrara Marble Epoxy countertops became a trend? It might be an excellent idea to consider as you test. I don't know how you would do veins in the mix, but you could be onto the next big trend, my friend! 👍

“What else am I going to do with Glidden paint?” 😂 Favorite line. Thanks for the video.
Artificial Plastic Willow Tree Bark Cover for Indoor/Outdoor Pipe and Column Deco found on temu would be wonderful for a concrete project
Hey maty, the paint you used in the green and white projects was oil or water base 😮 ??? Thanks😊
Try mixing green and then after it’s mixed well pour in some white and barley mix it. Might make a marbled look👍🏻
Love this!!!
“You are so welcome for this!” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
🤣 I knew you’d like that 🤣
That’s pretty cool. If you still have that Shaper Origin, carve a negative logo or sign and fill it in with cement. Or create a cement styled planter to look like wood. On another topic, I heard that cement used as a fire pit could explode under extreme heat. Is that true?
I was thinking about white thin set isnt that about the same thing? White cement but no agrogate.
What about adding a kilz type product?
Out of curiosity.... Does mixing paint into the concrete make it hold additional layers of paint later?
Bc paint can peel off of cement and concrete sculptures.... but if you have paint in the mix already, that could act as a primer and bonding agent; so that you can add painted designs onto a mold/sculpture for even more flair.
You can use a compressed air gun to easily break the seals between castings and the molds.
Dude! you are so clever. What about a raise garden bed? Maybe not a big one, but a taller one. like a foot deep or more. Say 4ft by 4ft by 1-2 ft tall? you know... herb garden size-ish. use "hot" water over the plastic mold - it makes it much easier to remove
You compared the white color to marble. Is it possible to make faux marble using mortar and paint? Like with the whiteness and gray streaks? Say for paving stones or tile.
Michael, water-based Kilz has the most white pigment. It would be the best crack as white. Just saying.
that broken large bowl is a good opportunity to try out that Japanese gold repair to fix it up
Can you do a countertop Harley Davidson orange? It would be cool if you did it first so I can do it. Love your channel 🤘🏻
Maybe try compressed air to separate the bowls instead of banging them.
Less risk of breaking.
Maybe.
So cool!
Isn't the blue bag cement more white?
Let's see how more white Paint works with no water. (?)

Can you please make a staircase molded molded steps and molded risers because I need to remake my two stairs they are rotting (wood) and they are 6 step and I need to get 2 pallets of 80 pound concrete
Maybe not use any water and only use paint given the paint is water based...!?!?
you mentioned that it looked like marbel when it cured, could you actually mimic a marbel color pattern with 2 or 3 separate small batches of concrete with different colors and then drag a a small dowel thorugh it
Next test mix up several colors and pour a rainbow planter or slab or something. Knock out a bunch of color tests at one time.
Make a set of Red, White & Blue concrete bowls!!! Ohhhh.... and don't forget to use a RELEASE agent!!! 🙂
Should have cleaned the top of the bowls when it was wet. Black paint to make the concrete absorb more heat?
Musou Black - it’s a water based acrylic, but the blackest paint in the world mixed with concrete would be awesome. It absorbs 99.4% of light.
That'd be fun.
Now, take the dark concrete and the light concrete, fold it together and try to mold it marbled in color
What if you added no water to the mix just more white paint?
Here's a challenge... inspired from this video.... can you mix various colors of concrete and try to reproduce marble slab.... vein and all.
That would be an awesome mo ey saver if you can do it.... no???
Try 2 different colors mixed separate. Pour it to look like marble.
not white, but is it waterproof?
You funny dude !
What would red look like?
Hey there... watch how you talk about Glidden Premium. All joking aside, I actually prefer Glidden for interior walls. If I use Behr... I really have to thin it. Gradually add more and more latex based paint. Let's see when there is a point where the paint takes over the concrete
Can you white wash concrete?
My question is this..... Can I acid etch or dye/stain a floor leveler mix to get it from the dark dark color, back to a concrete looking color..... To then ruin all the hard work I just did in order to acid etch/ stain/ dye the new surface back to a darker color.
