    Mike. I kid you not, I must have watched over a thousand videos on how to make concrete countertops! Yours are hands down the absolute best! Very informative, straight forward, and to the point. Also, this is the first time I have EVER felt the need to leave a comment on ANY video. Keep up the great work!

    Mike, I watched your "1-Hour Countertop" video, a couple times, followed all your instructions, and poured my first ever concrete countertop today. It was a great reward to see it release from the mold nearly without a flaw. (Hence me needing to watch the concrete sealer video.) I appreciate your precision with measuring the water/mortar mix, and how well you demonstrate all required techniques of each step. Other videos I have seen are needlessly complicated, especially for a small countertop project, but your video makes the process so approachable. I had a sneaking suspicion it would not actually be as hard as some of these videos make it seem to fab my own countertops, but your video was the catalyst in motivating me to attempt this. I credit you for my success with this, and also wanted to say thanks for a lot of things. Your sense of humor belies the amount of information and expertise needed to be doing what you are doing, and your humility and sincerity are most admirable. Thank you for your generosity in sharing all of that with all of us.

    I have a tip for a glaze coat or any two-part mix. Just Mark your mixing stick with 2 even measurements and poor one bottle to the first line and the second bottle to the second line you save 2 mixing cups by doing it this way.

      Back splash:
      1. Simply make a 4" tall piece, 3/4"-1" thick, same way as countertops.
      2. Bead of Onyx collection clear silicone 1/4" from back wall on entire length of counter top, stop 1/2" from each end of countertop.
      3. Place backsplash flat, upside down, apply same silicone beads in @ 3-1/2" circles, staying 1/4" minimum from all edges, across back of entire back splash. The circles of silicone will form a suction as you install the backsplash.
      4. Line up backsplash with ends, set on top 1/8" from back wall and push backsplash into place evenly.
      Warning: If you get silicone too close to edges of backslash it will push out onto the wall during installation and you will NEVER be able to caulk or paint wall where wall and backsplash meet.

I've gotten to where I'm watching them even if I'm not doing that project yet; BUT I've been talking about them. Yes, telling other people about the great projects you've done. Your bird baths, fire pit, bench w/the river running through it and it looking like real water over the rocks. I can't choose my favorite. I love the counter tops. At first I was like, I don't want a concrete counter top but after seeing what you can do with them, I so want mine to look like that. Thanks again. We love you too. I love what you did there. Hugs

    I think I like the first sealer the best overall, especially if I was making a table top or outdoor bar like in your other videos. If I was making like actual countertops for my kitchen or bathroom I think I would go with the epoxy though.

      @@bonahisme Awesome job, Jonah. I've been trying to figure out how to dye the Rapid Set like you did and thought I'd ask how you achieved it? I was thinking something like Cheng Concreter Countertop Pro-Formula Mix might work as an additive, but I'm also hesitant to mix products from different manufacturers as they might not play nice in the long run. Would appreciate the tip! Cheers

    • @bonahisme
      @bonahisme 5 років тому +1

      tastybarrels9 no problem 👍🏻
      Cheng pro formula is a stand alone product line. Super good, but very high-end. This is a much more affordable alternative. As far as the dyes or coloring goes, I used concrete dry pigment. Very cheap for a small one pound bag. I went to my local concrete company and bought it from them. They had a book with many colors to choose from. I tried to get it at Home Depot, but they don’t carry any dyes.
      I hope this is helpful. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

    I was hoping you would make this video. It is perfect timing. I am planning on making kitchen countertops and a breakfast bar but will need to do them in sections to make installation more manageable. Would you recommend sealing before installation or after? I'm mostly concerned if the joint seals will be affected one way or another. And I second the request for a vid regarding stains and such

    How long should I wait after the countertop dries before I can seal it? A friend of mine who is a general contractor researched all the techniques for concrete countertops two years ago, and told me to ignore everyone else on UA-cam except you. His countertops turned out beautifully, and I am currently pouring mine. My wife loves them! Thanks for all the great info. My kids loved watching you swinging on the rope in the caulk video.

    We bought a house with pretty beat up concrete counter tops. Don’t think they ever sealed them. There are rough edges, chunks missing on edges(especially around the sink), and they cut right on them so there are scratches and cut lines. QUESTION is, do I or should I sand or do anything else before sealing them? Also, thank you so much for this easy to follow and informative video!!
