I really like how settlements here actually feel like an actual town/city! This is such a huge plus on immersiveness compared to the previous games and honestly can't get any better than this! Props to the mad lad who proposed for the road and buildings system to be as natural as possible! (to what I was expecting at least)
It's just slight changes they made that have a huge impact. For example when you build houses next to each other, units can still walk through the houses in between, which means you can't use houses as walls, which lead to ugly bases in AoE 2 and other games. And of course the roads you mentioned. There were other games that let you build roads, but making the roads just get automatically generated is genius.
@@Crowbar the idea of an ecosystem surrounding the houses like little fences with animals or a yard its 10/10 for me, so beautiful
@@Ranidael3219 This game wakes up me in my days of age of mythology editor where I would make crazy detailed cities with parks and industrial areas... the possibilities of base building here is gonna be alot of fun

Love how the weapon went from Chuku Nu to Repeater Crossbow to finally Zhuge Nu
This Age of Empires is awesome. I love how each civilization has its own playstyle and unique features. Love it.
It looks like Anti-Aliasing is far better than it was before. The game looks sharper and crisper compared to the stress test.

It's absolutely brilliant that they have given us this much footage of the game so we know what we are getting...which looks unreal. Superb transparency and it is really appreciated unlike other game companies that knock something up and show you a fancy cgi trailer that makes it looks better than the average end product.
Red Alert 2 was my previous favourite RTS game ever but it looks like this might take the spot.
This is increasingly looking to be the Game of the Decade with its attention to detail.
I don’t think any RTS game will ever win a Game of the Year award…
… but it’s looking to perhaps be MY game of the year.
I love how every singular factions economy-bonuses seem completely absurd on their own, but then you realize that everyone has some individual bonkers eco-mechanic so it's balanced :D
I completely agree, every faction just has some awesome uniqueness to it! Although China is my favorite because I like how I have four eras and for dynasties and I really enjoy making large bases
Literally IceFrog's game balancing philosophy "if everything is broken, nothing is broken" lmao.
I understand the idea of dynasty bonuses being volatile, since that's what makes them situational, but their unique units are mostly underwhelming. And a second landmark is just a hhhhhhuge investment.
I wanna be a Chinese main so hard, but even in the late game their units and bonuses aren't really better than other civs'.
Repeater crossbows are really strong if you play greedy to a rush (what we call in AoE3 as "semi fast castle"). Fire lancers must be the best cav when used in a charge (they also raid really well) Clocktower seige is OP af, specially age 4 cannons cannot be countered by stock colverins. Only age 4 landmarks i concider very expensive and indeed risky but thats the difficult thing to learn with this civ, when to mass an army or when to invest in a stronger economy (as the video suggests).
Both Age 3 Chinese landmarks are amazing so I can see Yuan being meta. Age 2 and Age 4 have some very situational landmarks so those dynasties might only be good on some maps and in some match-ups.
@Ander P The problem with this theory is China can be very weak in T2. In the stress test, both England and HRE could come at you with men-at-arms timing attacks that China has absolutely no answer to in age 2. So while getting the t2 dynasty is nice from a booming perspective, you just can't spend too much time in T2 against these civs or you die. And the Zhuge Nu is really really bad against men-at-arms. I mean, it technically does more damage than a regular archer even at 1 damage per hit, but short range and costing all 3 resources just makes it not at all viable against men-at-arms. Plus the fact that you'll have it a bit later due to needing both age up buildings, meaning you'll just be starting to build up your numbers by the time 15-20 men-at-arms start burning down your town.
I agree that the later dynasties are more viable. And Age 2 booming might work vs anyone who can't do men-at-arms in age 2.
1. "Zhuge Nu" means 諸葛弩, which is some kinds of legendary crossbow in Chinese history.
2. Almost every real Chinese dynasty-official loved to collect Tax Gold, until it triggered a great revolution.
Legendary might not be the best translation of it. It's a real crossbow used since the Warring States era of 500s BC, but there are folklores and legends that anachronistically attribute its creating to a famous historical figure Zhuge-Liang of the 200s AD.
Hi, dev, I noticed a small visual bug!
Notice 0:50, when the pikemen are holding their pike 30° degree to defend against cavalry charge, their pike is a Chinese style "Fang Tian Hua Ji" halberd, that is a very good detail. However, 3 seconds later, when they start fighting, their pike switched back to the European(?) (I don't know what it's called) version.
The game is about to officially sale in a few days, you need to hurry to fix it quickly!
Mongols : " who are you "
Yuan : " I'm you but chinese "
Mongols : " tiim ee, imma head out "
So, in history, there was a war between the Yuan Dynasty and the Chagatai Khanate. Do you think it was the war between China and Mongolia? Or the Mongolian civil war?
The British Plantagenet Dynasty was established by the French, and the hundred year war between Britain and France was a French civil war. Then, the British and French royal families can be traced back to the Germans
I'M SO EXCITED AND I JUST CAN'T HIDE IT!
SAMEEEEEE!!!
YES BRO I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THE NEXT PART FOR LIKE 12 YEARS
As a person who knows about Chinese historical armor, I would like to point out the wrong design of cavalry armor in the game. If you are interested, you can check the armor of the Qing Dynasty. The armor of the Ming Dynasty is basically the same as that of the Qing Dynasty
Just because the emperor of the Yuan Dynasty was Mongolian, isn't the Yuan Dynasty a Chinese dynasty? In the hundred year war between Britain and France, the British royal family were all French. Can it be said that this was a French civil war?
I've been waiting for way more than a year for this game
Been waiting years for this. Can't wait
Looked it up, and the Zhuge Nu is in fact the Chu Ko Nu that's been in three different Age games before. Just thought someone would want to know.
Its so good to know that u can now main civilization and theres scope for having mastery, prev games were just all similar things wd very few differences so basically u could random pick any civ n play, now u cannot n thats very good.
Totally geeking out on the four dynasties - the four real historical dynasties before the Qing Dynasty, China's last imperial dynasty and the one in Age of Empires III.
The Qing Dynasty is the dynasty with the largest feudal monarchy in China, but it has entered modern times and lagged behind the development of the times
Oh my god don't tell me they still did not move the Dynasty button...
this video is clearly using a old build , seeing the zoom i can say that is the closed beta zoom.
Oh they did that like 4 months ago i think
Can you flip flop between dynasties? Like if you only built one for feudal then 2 for castle and get the third dynasty does building a feudal age landmark send you into the second dynasty?
I concur, it's now bit more tricky to play different civilization. There's good and bad in this
I appreciate AOE 4 so much! Honestly this is the first game I am excited for in a long time! Thanks a bunch to the developers.
P.S: I'd pay mad money for an Age of Mythology 2 & Impossible Creatures 2 with this quality.
Impossible Creatures! Thanks for the nostalgia!
Hells! I'd pay mad money for Age of Mythology 1 remake with this quality. Experiencing the fall of the trident campaign with modern visuals would be soooo good.
Man, AoM was great. The balance was way different, and there were some great ideas. Asymmetrical civs, eternal farms, and I spent sooo much time in Arcade Mode in everything from God Is Watching to Cat and Mouse to RPGs.
Norse became my fave when I got better and actually learned some build orders for the first time. Helped me ween off walling and waiting for a big army of myth units, encouraged me to use aggressive strats around infantry. Good times…
It has been almost 2 decades since I’ve seen someone mention impossible creatures. It brings a tear to my eye.

I said no bias! ):
The Chinese Empire's long blades, Guandao, steel armor, and heavy cavalry are particularly good at conquest and powerful.
명 제국의 길다란 블레이드, Guandao, 강철 갑옷, 중장기병대는 특히 정복전쟁을 잘하고 강력합니다.
Never would I expect to see a Korean really interested in ancient-medieval Chinese warfare and weaponry, when your country men tend to have intense political debate on a traditional clothing like the hanbok and hanfu, then again this is an rts.
A great bunch of lads.
Dynasty button needs to be somewhere else. I kept clicking on it during the test
yes
Too bad they didn't include the literature works of each dynasty, "唐诗(Poems of Tang)、宋词(Verses of Song)、元曲(Opera plays of Yuan)、明清小说(Novels of Ming & Qing)"
A booming civ if I ever saw one. I wonder how vulnerable they'll be to early Mongol pressure!
Chinese are able to use the tax collector to speed up military production and have a good first defensive landmark to defend a key position. So I would guess they would be able to turtle quite well, but we will see how it will play out.
From the multiplayer video they had a couple weeks back with the Mongols. It seems Mongols are very weak at countering players that wall in. I hope it was just a bad match up with the abbasid dynasty.
It will depend on the map. If there are few choke points, the Mongols will have a problem against the walls. On an open map, the weak Chinese early military will be a problem. Also the Abbasid 2TC will probably out boom the Chinese mid game, but the Chinese might have a stronger late game on most maps, with gunpowder bonuses and no reliance on market control.
Just build a wall and you'll be fine. It worked in real life, right?
@Ander P hey gotta give them credit, one city fort to block the mongol campaign into the south for decades while the rus( too big to travel, so 5 years) and middle east (khwarazm empire) fell within a year or two of arrival.
This is right up my alley
I was thinking, the UI and graphical style looks similar to warhammer dawn of war and company of heroes. When i searched the game, i didn't know that Relic was developing the game.
i hop we can see seasons and different maps in game . in all trailers the map looks the same
The hype is real!!!
honestly during stress test I couldn't figure them.out. The 2 landmark requirement was a huge cost And didnt seem to make sense competitively. But perhaps I didnt utilize the official right....
i love how the narrator guy says dynasties
I just learn that this is British English
The last few days are really unbearable. October 28 can’t come soon enough. I need to play now. I been waiting for years and years.

I love how AoE 4 is looking like Rise of Nations when every building counts for its growth and production!
I've fond memory of using egyptians to abuse the cpu thanks to the double wonder per city perk in conquer the world
If only AoE can adopt _Rise of Nations_ ' element of 1 unit = 3 individuals to help make the battles feel larger.
What are some civilizations that maybe candidates for future expansion??
Vikings,Japanes,Ottomans, some form of Spain, Egypt these are most probable
It will be paradox style civs dlcs
Relic will probably focus on less civs but civs that are more unique, unlike AOE2. That said, the entire possible list of future civs are as follows:
Europe: Vikings, Scots/Celts, Spanish, Byzantines
Middle East & Africa: Ottomans/Turks, Berbers, Malians, Ethiopians
Asia: Japan, Korea, Hindu Indians
Americans: Aztecs, Mayans
Take a shot when you hear the word dynasty.
"Tax collector!"
"Aaaack!" *shinka shinka*
I can just _hear_ that
Ming dynasty tech tree got me acting unwise.
Can we play now? How about now?
Can this come out already??
Does the player lose access to dynasty-specific units and structures upon moving to another dynasty?
i read about that and i think thats right
You do but there is a research in Imperial Age where you can unlock the ones you had access to before.
There is a landmark that helps you construct the other dynasty units and structures so you don't need to worry
@@marlonruvalcaba386 Yeah, the Spirit Way.
Did they still leave the Dynasty button in that position???
Awesomeness!
alredy my favourite
Based on everything here, the Chinese dont seem to have any real negatives to slow them down. Maybe the fact they need to build two landmarks per age for dynasty bonuses? However that’s just a way to slow down thier boom potential until late game where they just have too much power to counter. I’d like to see some amount of nerfs to the Chinese to bring them more in line with other civs in terms of power. Maybe people who’ve played the stress test can speak about this more?
I think their weakness is higher needing of macro then others means need more skill to play well.
4 more days! 4 more days!
How many factions are in game?
I wanted something like "kung-fu masters"
Sounds complex. I didn't see an economic boost compared to the other nations. Building all the Landmarks seems like a huge investment. Even so, the fact that each of the landmarks must be destroyed in order to win a game might be worthwhile. Seems like the most complex nation to me. Although Abbasid and its 'wings' also seem interesting too. Looking forward to the Dehli Silante spotlight.
From what I recall, the villagers build much faster (possibly up to twice as fast) as other civs. The Imperial Scholar's gold collection and resource drop off boost also increase the economy. When I played the Chinese, you needed a big economy to build the additional landmarks, but it was definitely doable. I remember more than one 1v1 game where I was able to actually hit all four dynasties (and still either win or put up a good fight).
That Dynasty button in the middle of the screen hurts me eyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssss aaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!

Why are the troops always outside the walls fighting the enemy forces? This is some GoT logic, wouldn’t you want to have the archers widdle down the enemy until they breach the walls then send your forces out?
Trebuchets outrange everything in this game, like in Age 2. So, while your walls prevent the enemy army from rushing your city, that same army has zero reasons to stand in your archer range while their super long-range trebuchets are bombarding your defenses from afar. Trebuchets force the defenders to take action. Hence, why the fighting happens away from the walls.
Now if there was an early stone wall besieged by infantry and rams that would be a different scene. Archers would play a great role there, even though rams laugh at archers big time. With a few rams and a lot of archers however it would be an actual battle.
In reality there were a lot of rally out to harass the besiegers.
A strong wall is useful to delay the enemy army and sudden raids.
Constantinople Capitol fall not because the wall got pulled down, but because the siege surround it. Having army outside mean the delay of successfully siege, it actually very important back in those time not to let the wall being besieged. This is when we talking about the real medieval wars of course, and not a video games.
Here we go :)

@@linshitaolst4936 Nope, they were mongol dynasty, unlike the later Qing Dynasty( Manchu ), Yuan Court practiced discriminatory policies against the natives of China, most of their high ranking officials were not only non- ethnic Chinese by lineage but also refused to study Chinese language and culture which led to massive racial conflicts all over China during the late years of Yuan such as northern and southern Red Turban rebels, Muslim uprisings and so on.
this game is to late on confrontation between playes, it should start earlier, around 6 min at most, now is arround 8-10. and the heavy siege projectiles (catapult, trebuchet) needs to have arch physics not be target base, the arrows, bullet, etc can stay that way. also it will be nice if the units and peasants between factions was more diverse
