  • This is Megalodon, my Second Van Build!!! I brainstormed for 3 YEARS before building this EXACTLY the way I wanted it. This IS MY DREAM HOME! It's the most comfortable home ever, complete with so much of every day living items found inside houses. The only thing I will lack once finished is the square footage of a house, but I have the world for that.

    Yay the new video is out! I love all the innovations you have in this van! So many people just copy other people's layouts - I feel like you are a true "G" when it comes to van builds. Also you rule for mentioning F Zero X, I love that game as well as all the other great Nintendo racing games.

      Sweet! Thank you! I hardly watch other people's build videos. Maybe 2 in the last few years. I don't mean not to support them by this either, they just don't interest me since I'm doing my own and live it!

      I had an amazing innovation I haven't seen done yet and I wanted to share, but had the idea after the video was made. So you know Black 2.0 Paint? It doesn't reflect light. I was going to paint it on the sides of the window sill so no light shines around the sides of the curtains. I think this idea could help many people! I'll be testing it this week. I ordered some already! If it works, I'll talk about it in the completed van tour!

      @@OutdoorsEmbrace Excellent idea. I used to look at how people made stealth MJ grow cabinets like 10 yeras ago, and many people had some great techniques for controlling "light leaks". I think black paint around the window sill would work. When I was watching your vid, I also thought that perhaps some strips of black felt or something around the window edges could be used to block light as well, 'naw mean?

    At the moment just have a VW T5 swb van, lived in it for over 2 years, mostly in the North Yorkshire countryside above York but spent time down in Cornwall in the South West, could not beat waking up to the view of the ocean a top the harbour walls, casting a line in to grab a Mackerel for a healthy breakfast, whipping your wetsuit on and dashing in with a board for the waves, you are right there in the heart of wherever you want to be in a van, really miss the lifestyle...think they've changed the parking laws/bays since, don't think you can perch yourself there any longer but will go check it out once get my licence back. I just had a king sized mattress chucked in the back then had around 2 feet at the back doors to have a cooler and suitcase, there was no real organisation like you have, your vans look like heaven to stay in, unlike my rushed, emergency bug out style.
    This is why I ask about your wiring diagram, because I might as well rig her out whilst I'm off the road until Spring.
    Cheerio dude, living a good life.

      Wait for the finished van tour too! Probably in a year or so, uggggg. It's already so livable, and I'm building it out slowly... but the final tour will have so much more than this even. I'm still coming up with ideas too. The other day, I thought of painting the insides of the windows with Black 2.0 so light can't reflect around the curtains at all coming in or out. That's my newest development, and I think it's going to help many others soon once I talk about that.

    Grest stuff. Your econoline build helped me with my econoline build. Im now on what i call Van Life 1.1 where ive been altering some things in my van to make things feel and look a bit better... also its going to be my first winter lol

    • @OutdoorsEmbrace
      @OutdoorsEmbrace  10 місяців тому +3

      Winter:
      2 to 3 comforters is amazing. Foam mattress insulates you from below.
      Diesel heat is great, Chinese Diesel heaters are good, $200ish. External tank can be mounted indoors if needed.
      Cold spots on bed while moving at all during night suck, but wrap the comforters around you and sleep on top of one partially.
      Bamboo comforter is good, but for the fitted sheet, do not use bamboo. It feels extra cold when moving at night.
      Insulation makes a huge difference, don't skimp on it. Smaller vans will keep in body heat with proper insulation.
      Just some to list off since you said it's your first winter in the van!

    • @PrayTellGaming
      @PrayTellGaming 10 місяців тому +2

      @@OutdoorsEmbrace so far I'm getting by just with blankets and comforters. I think it got as cold as -3C/26f outside and I managed to stay warm in bed.

      @OutdoorsEmbrace  10 місяців тому

      @PrayTellGaming 100% just comforters are great! Done it myself for a few winters. I also travel to Florida most winters now too to help, but I understand not everyone can go south each time it gets cold.

      @jov80 8 місяців тому +1

      @@OutdoorsEmbraceI've seen some other videos where it was suggested to use a tent inside the van during winter for solo campers, as that would be an extra insulation. Would that have helped? I'm curious, as I liked to watch winter vans from my home in Malaysia 😅😂😂

    • @OutdoorsEmbrace
      @OutdoorsEmbrace  8 місяців тому

      @jov80 I personally don't think a tent would offer much insulation, but to each their own. Comforters work great though, use 3 and you can be comfy at 0 degs.

    The walls, insulation seem extra thick, overkill. Overall build seems solid. I switched from tmobile to visible wireless 5g, half the price for a bit slower service, all unlimited. Also my tmobile router kept overheating, dropping my connection. That's a known issue for certain tmobile boxes.
    I like your keyboard setup. Ceiling fan looks solid, I wonder how it performs in the hot summer.
    Hammock looks cool, I wonder if I'd be able to sleep in one f/t.
    The door to the cab appears solidly built too, very cool.

    • @OutdoorsEmbrace
      @OutdoorsEmbrace  10 місяців тому +2

      I paid $21K for the empty van. Transit vans this year are usually at least $35K. I got it extremely cheap due to it having some exterior damage, plus the last owner might have thought there was more damage than there was to components, but they just didn't understand much about the maintenance needed. Easy stuff to fix mostly. Now van has been running great no issues for over a year and a half since we fixed everything. Engine and trans seem great. Bought it at 97K miles.
      Last owner only had it for 20K miles, before that it was owned by a company with evidence of good oil changes. The last owner also stated he changed oil regularly. There was some evidence of this.
      I decided to get it since I can always learn how to fix anything on it. But like I said, been running great with no new issues for over a year and a half.
      In the beginning, we had to change out DPF and Cat, but the last owner felt bad and actually helped us by paying almost half for this. Other than that, there was a noise cause by a bad shock in the back, which is why I think he thought there was more wrong than there was, but that was a cheap fix and did it all myself. So boom, good van for cheap! No more odd noises. Engine sounds very strong, and structural integrity is great.

I'm currently putting money into the build though to make it a fully livable house. Look at it this way, my house is like $30K. Other people's houses are $75K and up!

    What set up do you have for your power? How much was it

    • @OutdoorsEmbrace
      @OutdoorsEmbrace  10 місяців тому

      Extremely simple wiring set up, the most simple possible as I could tell. It just works, no issues.
      600 Ah lithium Iron Phosphate. $2000
      800 watts of solar $1200
      Solar charge controller $350
      Wires and connections $300 to $500
      Now I opted for a system that could support a high powered microwave with absolutely no problem at all, so I did spend more. The system is also meant to power a future AC, which is not high powered, but requires lots of Ah from the battery storage.
      If you decide these are not necessary, your system will be way less.
      Explain your wanted system to me, what you'll be running inside, and I'll give you an estimate of what it might cost.

    Yooo Ryan! Sick build my man!! How do you feel about vapor barriers, did you end up going with one? Is the wool directly up against the metal of the van or is there another layer of xps foam sandwiching the wool from both sides? Also did you go with havelock or somewhere else for your wool?

    • @OutdoorsEmbrace
      @OutdoorsEmbrace  10 місяців тому +1

      I would never recommend a vapor barrier for a van made of metal, the metal is already a vapor barrier and another one could trap moisture between the two.
      The wool is technically touching the metal, all way painted before applying. The van has very adequate air flow daily so it should not be an issue in future. I went with "Havelock" Brand for the ceiling, and all walls have loose fill from "Wool Life" Brand. Both are great quality.
