Thank you for posting this; goodness, this took me back a few decades! I wouldn't mind a dollar for every lap I've done around Winton! - or Sandown/the Island/Calder, both on the circuit and the Thunderdome; Barbagello, too. Was a Flagmarshall here - and all the other circuits I've mentioned, of course - before getting back into racing as a competitor. Ran here in the 80's and 90's in Formula Vee, Club Cars (in an RX-3) and in the 24-hour races, firstly in a highly-modified Capella, and for the following three years in an HQ. Was also a Driver Evaluator for CAMS for many years. Finally retired in 2000, after 36 years in the sport, in Oz and overseas. Racing, as always, cost a king's ransom, but I wouldn't have missed it for anything.
Thanks for watching Chris. I am no pro racer so you probably would have some suggestions on how to better tackle Winton that I described in this video. Congrats on getting out there in the past and racing, I am sure if brought you many happy moments, and some tough times too. Are you still driving at all these days?
@@Bbeavis Thanks for that; it was always good fun. There were no sheep stations on offer, so best to get out there and enjoy it. Of course, there were times when it got a bit interesting, like when the RX3's fully-locked diff jammed at full noise (280 kph) on the Island's front straight. Car skipped sideways, but fortunately didn't roll. Propshaft tore itself in two, back half smashed the nose cone on the diff housing and took out the brake lines, front half tore a split in the floor alongside me. So, no brakes and no drive; made Southern Loop very interesting! Took me from the finish line to just short of Honda to stop. Yes, I still drive and ride motorcycles too, though I no longer compete. Just bought a new road bike, actually. Don't want to be the boldest, just want to be the oldest, but I've got a long way to go yet, coz I'm only 76. Enjoy your motorsport and stay safe.
I’ve really enjoyed this Beavis! You’ve gone in an admirable direction with your channel. Thank you for your continued output and all the time you put into sharing with your viewers. I always learn something. Cheers!
Hey Brendan Thank you for your tutorials; both PI and Winton have been very useful to me; between your pointers and some practice on iRacing, I’ve been able to turn up to both tracks for the first time, informed and well prepared. Thank you mate, awesome job on the content and format. I think you’ve got the only really useful videos out there for those tracks. Next: The Bend? Broadford? Sandown? 😉
Thanks for your message Raphael. Glad to be helpful I would like to put something together on all three tracks you have mentioned, but it's a matter of finding spare time. It takes many hours to write out the process, record it, edit it, and then of course gather the on track footage to compliment the guide.... hopefully one day in the future, but I cannot make any promises.
I really like your channel and content, have you considered doing some driving tutorial style stuff? Explaining how an mx5 handles, and how to approach various types of corners?
Hi mate, awesome track guide! You wouldn’t happen to have access to a track mod for Winton on Assetto Corsa? Can’t seem to find one readily available on the net
Excellent video, love this format. At Winton I notice the surface is very different depending on your line, EG: turn one there is a grippier patch on the inside left which helps you slingshot through. The cleavage or tits is where the surface grip is a bit worse for me. As is turn 10, probably due to the layout changes for short/long track. Slow cars may want to hug the inside of the sweeper. Just a few of my thoughts to add. Cheers

Thanks mate! I'm not a pro but I hope it helps others to drop their times.
Inspired me to finally do a track day 😍
Perfect, I hope it's everything you ever hoped for!
Just did my first weekend at Winton… Thought of your vid as i was having a blast on the sweeper…!!! 💥👍😊
Nice!!

A really useful guide to hopefully getting decent lap times at Winton - Thanks!
Happy to hear you enjoyed the video, thanks Rod!
Another top production, Brendan. Thanks.
Thanks very much Gavin. Glad you enjoyed!
This is EXACTLY what I was hoping for 👌
I hope it helps!
Thank you for this helpful and interesting video. Great job :) This track came to iRacing today and I really like it. It’s a very lovely track.
Glad you liked it!
Another great guide vid mate. Very well dobe
Cheers mate!
Been waiting for this one! Awesome breakdown again!
Thank you :-)
Good guide. Makes me want to go back to Winton.
Thank you.
I really like your channel and content, have you considered doing some driving tutorial style stuff? Explaining how an mx5 handles, and how to approach various types of corners?
Hi Ben, thanks for watching. I think this video IS the tutorial on driving through corners, I'm not sure what else I could do to explain it.
Still watch this regularly to try improve my times :)
Glad to know it might be helping some people, thanks!
Great video mate! God damn lockdown ruining track days
Thanks mate. Yeah hate leaving the car unused gathering dust when we could be out there doing what we love.
And for anyone interested, here's my guide I put together 3yrs ago on driving at Phillip Island GP Circuit: ua-cam.com/video/y5Eib2rdWDU/v-deo.html
Legend! Thanks mate
No problem 👍
Thanks for this!
Sure thing!
This is brilliant
Thanks mate :)
Howdy there, love the vid! What app are you using for the lap timing?
RaceChrono on an Android phone to record the data, and my own custom layout design in RaceRender to generate the footage of it.
@@Bbeavis ok great, thanks I appreciate it!
Hi mate, awesome track guide! You wouldn’t happen to have access to a track mod for Winton on Assetto Corsa? Can’t seem to find one readily available on the net
Shoot me an email and I will see if I help you with a download for Winton.
@@Bbeavis Thank you mate just sent an email now :)
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
@@Bbeavis I've never driven this track but feel like I would be better having watched your well done and informative video. Congrats.
Nice guide. I like the sequential shift light on the steering wheel. Where I can get one and price? Keep pushing
It is a Shift-i by Ecliptech, quite an old light now as they have recently replaced it with a updated version called the Shift-P2
Very well broken down
Cheers mate!
your speed at 15:26 looks a bit weird, drops down quite low and then picks up quite interestingly.
Yes, the GPS tracker has pretty poor accuracy.
Excellent video, love this format.

Also, what GPS are you using, it seems to be jumping around a bit... I switched to a Qstarz BT-Q818XT to get it a bit more consistent.
Thanks Chris.
I have a BT-Q818, I think it's getting a bit old and sick, or needs to move to somewhere with better reception.
