I was painting a house when a black wasp showed up, I sprayed it with foaming wasp killer. When it landed on the roof I gave it another shot covering it in a pile of foam, it crawled out, I gave it another shot, it crawled out again, I bashed it with the can.

I’ve been using dish soap sprayers for 45 years without anything else. Several years back I added it to someone’s comments, now everyone is claiming variations of this. Truth is it works on all insects.
I remember several years ago when you hit wasps with wasp and hornet killer and they would drop immediately. Seems like the stuff we've been buying lately doesn't really phase them too much. I have sprayed it directly on them several times and they sit there and walk around for a little bit and then they fly off.
I like your favorite recipe. I just saw a guy that bought a car washer that he used Dawn in and it sprayed strong and pretty far. Very effective! One thing I just learned too was that those red wasps are able to sting through a bee suit. Very dangerous evil things...pestilence of the air. Great video!
I'm in S.E. Tennessee and the red wasps are everywhere. Been stung a few times working around the yard. Anyway, I tried it and hung a couple of the paper bag disguised nests around the house. I can't believe it but it actually worked. They red wasps are GONE. Unbelievable!! Thank you kindly. IT WORKS.
THANK YOU! I just got stung 3 times when trying to lock my patio gate. I learned wasps made a nest on the gate near the latch. My hand is about to split open! I am going to try the peppermint mixture method If that doesn’t do it, then the water/sugar/vinegar/soap in a bucket method. -There’s a cross board & I think they’re behind the board & not sure I can get them using the spray? Also, I heard you can use boric acid, sugar juice mixture and it will kill the nest and also kill ants or any other insects.
I staple the stuffed bag to a hanger and keep 1 on either side of my front door. Used to have major problems with wasps congregating and occasionally getting into my house. I've been doing this for about 3 years and see very few wasps around my property anymore
I have to tell you thank you. I am allergic to bee's. I don't mind honey bee's, but wasps are not my friend. I was having trouble w/wasps making nests around our front door. I tried the first two methods. Worked like a charm. Thank you so much keeping my family and myself safe from these nasty buggers.
A trick I used to get wasps out of my parent's attic was arenol hairspray. Has to be the kind in a can. The hairspray dries almost immediately and freezes their wings. Then you can blast the nest with wasp killer. I would hit the nest, leave, and come back later to treat the next nest. After all were dead, I knocked down the nests and sealed up where they were getting in.
I found that WD-40 works the best. With the straw it covers their bodies with oil, can't fly or breathe. Plus it leaves an oil/fuel odor that they hate. Spray the unders of the property and no wasps for a year.
Good video and great advice on how to get rid of wasps. When I went after the nest, after I was stung in the hand and ankle, I wore Carhart pants and jacket, work boots, thick work gloves, hoodie tied up and safety goggles. All this in the mid summer, humid day sweating buckets, doing this really early in the morning, but did not get stung again ! Thank again for the video.

Years ago, we had a big family birthday at a restaurant outdoor patio. I did smack a wasp and killed it. The waiter did tell me exactly what you just said. I never believed him, until today. I figured it was just nonsense he’d heard somewhere. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this most informative video! Just the past 2 days I’ve been inundated with wasps and red Lilly beetles around my home, in the most insane quantities like I’ve never seen before. It’s been a particularly hot dry summer here in Alberta this summer and the bugs are proficient…and angry. Not as angry as me however and after this video, I’m confident I can take back my yard. Cheers, thanks so much.
For all the spray methods , I have found that if you will visit a nest at night with spray in one hand and a good flash light , you can get everyone of the little varmints .They don't seem to chase you at night , atleast I've never had one do so. . Just walk up shine the light in their eyes and spray them down. If it is a big nest most will be on the nest but some will be sleeping just off the nest so look around and get them all . Never been stung with this method .
I've done this exact method to some red wasps in northeast Texas. I sprayed the nest with some soapy water with orange oil. It does kill them but takes a minute or two to immobilize a few of the strong ones. Anyways, after I sprayed the nest down real good with mist setting, I ran 40' away and 20 seconds later I had one kamikaze style sting me right in the chest. So, I would add to your technique some winter clothing just to be safe. The sting sites are definitely painful for a few days. Happy hunting.
Thank you so much! I had a nest right near my door so I sprayed the nest with your recommendation of peppermint oil, dishwashing soap and water. After misting the nest and the hornets they quickly flew off but were definitely suffering, then I used the rest of the Dawn soap I had and spread it all over the nest so hopefully they will not return 🙂 thanks again!!

@@lisarainbow9703 Thanks for the tip. I recall many years ago a single bee or wasp was in our van without our knowledge. Nobody had the experienced of getting rid of the nest in my community. I'd try the wasp killer spray with full PPE. Thanks for this sharing.

Omy gosh 😢😮 thanks so much i used the soap with peppermint, I had a swap nest in my side mirror hadn't driven my car because of shoulders surgery so today I was shocked but i took care of the problem. 🎉🎉🎉
I can’t see or get to where the nest is but it must be huge. I am therefore spraying the canned stuff where I see them going in and out of the siding. I’d have to get on a ladder and get way closer than I want, to find and spray the nest directly. What I’m doing though, is not working. The wasps don’t seem to be dying. Suggestions?
Put a bunch of plastic bags inside 1 plastic grocery bag tied at the handles will work on outside areas. Like an overhang. Make sure it has crumbled areas so it sort of looks like a bee paper wasp nest. Supposed to keep masonry/wood bees away too. They won't put a nest near another bee nest.
WD-40 works. It worked for me with the attached straw-- helps to control the spray area. It has sticking power on any surface, so the wasps do not want to come back to the same area.
Just a quick note. If you have a problem with the Wasp Killer, just use Starting Fluid, it will drop them INSTANTLY and being Either ,it will evaporate instantly.
Yea found in shop by experimenting - spray wasp (mud dauber and paper) with engine starter fluid knock em 0ut instantly. Bug spray takes several minutes.
I used stating fluid with some ground wasps when I was a kid. After I sprayed it in and around the hole, I lit it on fire. Never saw those wasps again!!!
I put a good amount of Dawn dish soap in a 5 gallon bucket and filled the bucket with boiling water (boiled on the stove in pots). Took the bucket out to the hole at night and dumped it in. Next morning, didn't see any yellow jacket activity but there was a piece of honeycomb nest sitting next to the hole. Wonder how exactly that got there, especially considering the hole was still in tact (didn't look like the nest was dug up).
I get stung everyday I walk up or down my stairs. Now I run up and down them trying to avoid the wasp but somehow he still is able to sting me. Some days I'm lucky. It's going on 2wks now and I have bought 5 different sprays. I reported this problem to my landlord and she told me it's nothing they can do because the wasp come out this time of year but I been living here for 4yrs and I moved to a different unit which happens to be on the second floor the other unit was on the 1rst floor. Sadly I wish I could have stayed there. I will try these remedies and pray it works. I think it's a hive somewhere by my steps but it's hard to recognize them. Thanks for your info. God bless you as well.
You have my utmost sympathy as I have your exact situation. I have been stung several times going up/down my stairs and my landlord simply said he found no nests and therefore nothing can be done; and, no one else has been stung but me and just me doesn't matter. I just got peppermint essential oil and apply to elbows, ears, wrists, etc. whenever I go out. It dissipates quickly, however, so I will be taking it with me and applying it before I get near the stairs coming home. Only time will tell if this works. My next step is to make some homemade traps.
Find a small spray bottle and fill it with a mixture of water and Dr Bronners peppermint Castile soap, plus a few drops of peppermint oil. Keep it in your car/handbag, and lay down cover fire before you walk up the steps, just spray back & forth a few times, using the mister setting. I have to do this every time I go in and out, because there's so many around me. The spray bottle has been a lifesaver.
Probably in a crevice. You should insist that the landlord hire an exterminator. On two occasions, we have done so when they were finding their way inside the house. One trip and no issue for the remainder of the year.
I like the can spray for developed wasp nests that endanger the family. I've sprayed a giant nest while sitting in my pickup. There were hundreds of bald face hornets. I held the can outside the window, emptied the can on them, and quickly put the window up. They never attacked the truck but simply fell to the ground dead or dying. I never had any luck just using soap water on a nest. A few weeks ago I sprayed Dawn mixed about 50/50 and the hornets fell but within a few minutes they flew away. But soap works great in that bowl type trap. It holds the wasp in the liquid long enough to drown them.
I use bifenthrin based herbicide 2 oz of syrup and commercial grade vinegar in a sprayer. I make 3 gallons in my sprayer. In a 3 gallon sprayer I use 6 oz commercial vinegar. I spray my buildings in march and July and I never have a wasp , hornet or dirt dauber problem. Also the spiders stay away.
Sooooo… I am a phobic to wasp/bee Like really bad . Everytime I get out I always watch to see if I see one flying around 😂 The problem is I don’t have a Nest near my house but I don’t want them flying near my house when I get out or my patio . Not even 1 or 2 of them . I’m just super terrified of them even though they are not bothering me . They already stung me before even though I wasn’t bothering them . Is there something we can put outside for them not to come AT ALL around my house and yard don’t have to keep spraying everyday . Something to keep them off at least 2-3 months it doesn’t matter or at least a week . 😩 Can I buy a pressure sprayer fill will peppermint spray all over the yard will help them not to come ?? As long as they are not near the perimeter of my house i will be fine .
I had an old building where wasps built nests every year. Every year I would spray them with hornet killer and take down their nests. It was frustrating. Finally, I decided to saturate the nests with the hornet spray and leave the nests up. Believe it or not but that ended my wasp problems. I had a next door neighbor that had a barn and the borer bees were horrible. I planned to build a barn using pine trusses. I had chloradane and another chemical and mixed them. I sprayed the bottoms of all the surfaces of the trusses with it. I have never had a problem with borer bees, over many years, with the trusses I sprayed, that single time. The bottom line is that bees are very sensitive to chemicals. If a spray will leave a long lasting residue on a surface and the surface is shielded from water and the elements then it can become made effective to repel the bees. I made sure all my surfaces were in open air locations so that I wouldn't be breathing anything later on from the residue.
chloradane has been banned in the US since 1988 (for a good reason). I remember using it decades ago, spraying around the house yearly. Then I found out how dangerous the stuff was, and that it had a half life of 30 years. I could smell the stuff in our garage on a hot summer day 25 years later
I have many wasp around my porch light and magnolia tree next to it. I believe they are mostly black. I ignore them going in and out my door and i will sit in a chair under the tree swarming with wasp. I don't bother them and they don't bother me. I am getting concerned since there are so many. What should i do?
Will the technique using peppermint oil, dish soap, water work to spray inside a Lennox outside air conditioner and send the wasps on their way. Having an extreme heat wave right now in Idaho, and wasps seems very angry around 6 p.m. or so and then go inside a/c. I can't figure out how the spray will be effective thru the groves on sides of a/c. Help please. I have the peppermint and everything else, just need reassurance. Thanks so much.
4:45 So what if wasps don't like peppermint? What's the point of adding peppermint essential oil to the spray bottle? Are you trying to keep wasps away by spraying everything down? You spray it directly on the wasps and the soap kills them. The peppermint essential oil doesn't kill.
@@Lyssa0095 Thanks for the info...I already got stung multiple times before doing anything but the canned spray. No need to pi$$ them off and get stung some more.
@@lahawk2931 what I will say though, what actually worked is, I sprayed my deck down with the peppermint oil and soap and water, all over the deck. And it keeps the wasps away, HOWEVER it doesn't work to try to kill them directly. Also you have to be consistent with the spray (daily) to let it really build up. Then do it weekly. Etc. And it's worked beautifully. I hope this helps you ❤
I have them everywhere around my house crawling into everything. I can't get rid of them and I can't find a nest! It's making me crazy....all I hear is this buzzing 24/7!
I did the drop of dish soap/water in a spray bottle I even added a drop of liquid poporuri( rose scented) - worked great! Everything smelled so nice. Never got stung- lots of dead wasps!!
gonna try the water, apple cider vinegar, sugar and dish soap method. Last 2 Springs (Boston, MA) I get one large hornet in the house (living room). I assume it's the queen foraging for food. I spray kill it. But every Spring I get so nervous bc I can't see/locate the nest. I think it might be in the attic so have used fog bombs, tried an attractant (didn't work) and more in that area. This Spring I'm going to use your method and see what happens. Wish there was a way to attract and expose the hornet to a poison that could be brought back to the nest. But haven't found anything like that on line-ugh. Wish me luck.
Wasps setup home in a hedge trunk, hard to flush em out with just water like a paper wasps nest. Guess it's time to try the soap and freshener combo at the opening. It's quite shocking how many wasps came out of the nest when I sprayed the hole from a distance with a jet hose, then how fast they disappeared again when I stopped. Wasps don't mess around so gotta stay covered.
Nice video! The dishwashing liquid is the safest. However, if you don't get that formula right and hit it directly because you will have to get pretty close, a nest will attack with vengeance! The hotshot type is probably best for us amateurs......:)
I have wasps under my front deck. I've been stung twice, time to do something about this problem. Think I'll try the bowl as I can't access under the deck to locate the nest(s)... Is there like a wasp bomb I can set off and fumigate under the deck to exterminate them?
Our wasps are crawling in a small space, crack on the porch eavesment. None of these have worked. The nest is hidden. I got stung mowing and it really does hurt.

The Dawn soap softens and expands the chitin exoskeleton of the wasp, clogging the spiracles (insect breathing holes) and suffocating the wasp.
Yep. We followed up with a shorter video using only the dish soap method. ua-cam.com/video/zpxLBdsTSuI/v-deo.html
Another one I found out at work , break parts cleaner spray ! It seems to suck all the moisture out of them .
I've heard brake cleaner works for a lot of stuff
If you have a lot of nests/wasps to kill, it might be worth buying and filling up a weed killer backpack sprayer with that formula and have at 'em.
Gunk engine degreaser kills them quick if you can't find wasp spray. It has a long spray stream and also rinses off with water.
Brake Kleen works awesome
Thank you for presentation. Best greetings from Ukraine!
Starting fluid? For a car? Looking for help. Wondering if it will work for European hornets.
@@whatsnext2383 A shoe works better...
a cup of soapy water will kill an entire nest dead. Just do it at night and they'll be dead before they hit the ground.
Thanks I 👍 the bottle, dish soap and peppermint.
Man…you just shared some good stuff!
Thank you so much!! This works great! I’ve spent hundreds in wasp spray
Thanks. this is the year of the bugs, wasp included.
Don't forget yellow jackets !
Dawn soap and tap water in a cheap $2 spray bottle is also very effective for killing yellow jackets and wasps. Thanks for watching.
The soap and peppermint concoction in a supersoaker is about to save me hundreds of bucks, maybe thousands over my lifetime. Thanks!!
If you get stung grab some plantain leaves, chew and apply to sting. It will draw the pain right out.
Very true. Thanks for tuning in.
Dishwashing liquid soap + water = spray/pour. Job done.
Home defender spray i found to work pretty darn good. It's got a super long shot or spray head. Really works guud
Will the vinegar, sugar, water and dish soap work for bees, wasps and hornets???
Thank you for this information! I have a nest right near my mailbox.
Thanks. I'm going to try the last method
Thank You for all these tips and remedies
"Blood on your door", loved the reference!
Sooooo… I am a phobic to wasp/bee
Like really bad . Everytime I get out I always watch to see if I see one flying around 😂
The problem is I don’t have a Nest near my house but I don’t want them flying near my house when I get out or my patio .
Can I buy a pressure sprayer fill will peppermint spray all over the yard will help them not to come ?? As long as they are not near the perimeter of my house i will be fine .
Thank you so much for your video!! I really needed this! Lol. The presentation was amazing 👏 🙌
I have Peppermint growing in my greenhouse, it hasn't stopped the wasps from trying to take over.
Okay. So, no more knocking down nests and telling my dog to RUN while I duck and weave. I'm off to get peppermint and paper bags. ❤
I have many wasp around my porch light and magnolia tree next to it. I believe they are mostly black. I ignore them going in and out my door and i will sit in a chair under the tree swarming with wasp. I don't bother them and they don't bother me. I am getting concerned since there are so many. What should i do?
Seems your at computer now, so stay there!
@@johnnellis3025 Lol.
Use a mesh wire with magnets and cover, that may help. Had the same problem. Now my attack is with Carpenter bees.
Thank you for all the useful tips.
4:45 So what if wasps don't like peppermint? What's the point of adding peppermint essential oil to the spray bottle? Are you trying to keep wasps away by spraying everything down? You spray it directly on the wasps and the soap kills them. The peppermint essential oil doesn't kill.
THE spray he made does not work. its bullshit. im stung because i tried it twice.
@@alexhuevera939 Sounds about right. Thanks.
@@alexhuevera939 yup same with me. Looked like an idiot spraying while I proceeded to get attacked.
I hope this helps you ❤
two cups apple cider vinagar, two cups sugar two cups water a couple drops dishsoap.
Do you think that will work for Great Digger Wasps?
How do you get rid of the queen with mint and soapy water though?
Can you just spray the surface as a preventive, the oil and detergent, so they don t come around?
Wondering too if that will deter them. I already have them going into the eaves, but for next year I would spray beforehand if it is a deterrent.
I have them everywhere around my house crawling into everything. I can't get rid of them and I can't find a nest! It's making me crazy....all I hear is this buzzing 24/7!
Absolutely excellent video
I did the drop of dish soap/water in a spray bottle I even added a drop of liquid poporuri( rose scented) - worked great! Everything smelled so nice. Never got stung- lots of dead wasps!!
I would have thought a floral scent would attract them. I wonder if the the oil smothers them just like the dish soap?
Good info and presentation.
Thank you for sharing 🎉🎉.
@@michellephan1316 thank you for tuning in.
Very helpful. I'm in a constant battle with these things...so much so I had to pull up my holly bush ugh...thank you again
Good information, thanks for making this video!! 👍
gonna try the water, apple cider vinegar, sugar and dish soap method.
I dont understand the purpose of the peppermint oil? does it kill them?
So I wonder if the peppermint oil is meant to keep the other wasps from swarming after the first wasp has received a direct hit?
Is the peppermint oil there as a prophylactic to simply keep wasps away overall?
Thank you! Your information is so great. Best I've seen! 🤩
Why do you use the peppermint oil if it only irritates the wasps?
doesnt do shit.
Supposedly they detest the smell and it is a deterrent.
I have the wasp spray but it seems really bad. I think I'll try soapy water first!
I have wasps under my front deck. I've been stung twice, time to do something about this problem. Think I'll try the bowl as I can't access under the deck to locate the nest(s)... Is there like a wasp bomb I can set off and fumigate under the deck to exterminate them?
best advice on line!
Our wasps are crawling in a small space, crack on the porch eavesment. None of these have worked. The nest is hidden. I got stung mowing and it really does hurt.
I use dishsoap and my son's supersoaker watergun worked great for me .
