Mildreds: The Vegetarian Cookbook | Backburner
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 жов 2024
- In February I cooked from the Mildreds cookbook during the third UK lockdown. Mildreds is one of my favourite restaurants in London and I had a great time recreating favourite recipes and trying new ones. Give them a visit if you're in town: www.mildreds.c... Buy the cookbook at your local bookshop or order from Hive: www.hive.co.uk...
I know this is slightly different from previous backburners (I certainly was in a chattier mood -- product of circumstances I think!) but I hope you like it and that it can provide you with comfort. It means so much to me when you comment that backburner has helped you through something or just been a pal. Thank you. I love making them. I think next I'm going to do Anna Jones' new cookbook, but first I'd like to edit my midlands cycling video :)

Backburner is without exaggeration my favourite thing to come from UA-cam. The calm that comes from a chat in the kitchen over food prepared to seek some brightness is unmatched, and I always turn to the old backburner videos when I need some reflection or the meditative sounds of chopping. There’s really nothing else like it and I’m so happy it’s back xx
You'll be pleased to know that we did not throw away the spinach plants, nor did we feed them to foxes
Excellent because I need spinach.
That knife slices through sweet potato like butter, I am in awe!
IT'S SO GOOD! Everyone ask for a really good knife for your next birthday!!!
@@rosianna noted!!
@@rosiannacould you share what brand/type knife this happens to be? Its amazing!
i keep coming back to these backburner videos when im feeling anxious and unsettled. something about watching you take care of yourself helps me do the same.
i love this! i am reminded of the etymology of amateur - someone who loves. your love and enjoyment really shines through. and i dig the representation of homecooking idiosyncrasies because i too have an awkwardly-sized grater!!
Oh wow I didn’t know that was the etymology of it! 💖😭 thank you and grater solidarity haha
The CRUNCH of the spoon passing through basil crumb sounded phenomenal. I made a joyful noise that distracted Alys from Animal Crossing 🤣
Something so peaceful about the shot at 28 mins: watching the pasta rest while hearing the onions sizzle. God I love this series
okay this is the best thing to happen. the way I was obsessed with backburner!!!!
:') Thank youuuu
I still rewatch your first ever backburner from time to time! Covid has made me enjoy cooking way more than I could ever imagine and now standing in the kitchen makes me feel a similar kind of comfort to the one your cooking videos give me.
Delighted to see a new Backburner episode! thankyouthankyou!
Nooooo not the peeler incident. 😭
Today was a hard day-Mother’s day in the US, and I can’t tell you how much my soul needed this.
backburner back? what a gift! also, for the onions, I just learned that a wet paper towel by the cutting board totally eliminates the crying! how did we not know this earlier?!
I am so happy you made another backburner video. this is my comfort series. like if i could get this series framed or tattooed on my body i would.
rosianna: this stage involves pouring, which has never been my strong suit
every subsequent stage of the recipe: *involves pouring*
this is the most zen I have felt... ever? thank you so much for creating this place of peace x
thank you so much for this beautiful calming video!
This is going to sound weird and stalker-ish but I’ve been really enjoying listening to your thoughts and your voice these days. Like I loved your bees video and I watched it a couple of times at night to fall asleep to. It is very comforting. So I found myself going down this rabbit hole of research about you and what you do and I was just listening to this old Dear John and Hank episode you did. You’re very cool Rosianna and in a non “in your face” kind of way. Thanks for all you are doing and creating. 🙂
Ah thank you! So kind :)
I love these videos! Very soothing, thanks Rosianna x
i had never watched a backburner video but i did today after cooking a proper lunch for myself for the first time in two weeks. it was v comforting and it kept me company and now i'm happy there are some more of these i can go back to anytime! x
oh that makes me so happy. Thank you and I'm glad I could keep you company!
Thank you for cooking with me tonight Rosianna! I always love Backburner videos, they are so peaceful. They were also part of my inspiration to cook through Smith and Daughters' vegan cookbook in the first lockdown - so thank you thank you thank you. I look forward to you doing more of Anna Jones as have been toying with acquiring one of hers for myself after your previous videos!
I love Backburner so much - this winter in a really low place I went back and watched the original set. I was amazed that there were so few of them and that they're so old now (summer of 2016! another world!) because they really occupy a place of distinction in my mental map of "the internet" and the things that have stuck with me as if they were new.
My own relationship with food has changed so much and so much for the better since the originals and looking back at the timing, I wonder if my own cooking journey was seeded by the first Backburners - in early 2017, my last semester of uni having never learned to cook but knowing I would need to if I was to survive on my own afterwards, I went to Edinburgh books and bought Meera Sodha's Fresh India and have been cooking from it ever since, for most of that time nearly exclusively. It's a wonderful cookbook and it has completely changed my life and relationship with food.
Something about your Backburner videos make me love food like I love a distant friend - they make me want to reach out and apologize, or say the thing I've never said, but to myself and my own body and my own food. I've come such a long way since the last one of these was published, and it's a rare thing for me to sit and focus on one thing for 50 minutes, without picking at my fingers or playing minesweeper or anything. But this has me reminded that I can build the kitchen I want (buy the immersion blender, g-d damn it!), make the food I want, craft the life I want. Thank you.
I am so impressed with how good that knife is!
Love the way this whole video was filled with the music of cooking and kitchens..... the spoon against the pot chiming like a bell.... the dishwasher somehow sounding like an airy wind instrument.... the crackling onion right up close... all of it sounding so familiar and just like home
backburner is one of my favourite things to exist on UA-cam. The number of times i have gone back to the old backburner videos in the times of distress and despair is uncountable now. Thank you for bringing it back. Hope you are doing well. Love from India.
Yaaaay backburner is back!
I have to admit my heart stops for a millisecond each time you drag the blade of your wonderful knife across the board. But then it still seems to be working great so 🤷♀️
Now I'm hungry. Thanks for the wonderful vid!
I will try to remember not to do that in future for the sake of your poor heart! Thank you for watching :)
‘I feel like I had to reject the world today to be well’ that is.. exactly how I feel, but was never able to put into words. Thank you for this video.
i'm very belatedly watching this and omg the ease with which you chopped the sweet potato with that knife was so sexy i need a new knife
This video is an absolute gift of which I am overjoyed to received. Thank you.
so enjoy these videos. that point you made about comfort food is so true. food is nourishing and whatever we need to do to bring ourselves joy and eat something yummy and if it's healthier cool and if not that's fine too, should be the point. hope you're taking care. i'm not much of a cook but this has inspired me to try, that mac & cheese looked so good!
I really enjoy having these types of homey videos on while doing stuffing the kitchen or folding up laundry. It’s quite calming and it looks delicious :)
I made a very high-pitched noise when I saw this in my subscription box. I'm so pleased to see another Backburner (and your face
Ahhhhh I'm so happy to see another backburner! I watch the others from time to time, they're often so comforting to me.
actually gasped with excitement when i saw a new backburner video in my subscription feed! love these videos, they're so calming, and inspiring to try new recipes too 💛
Oh my goodness. Even though I knew this was coming, this has still brightened my day. I frequently rewatch your past backburner videos - maybe they're my equivalent of your West Wing?! But a new one... what a gift 💖
I bought the cookbook based on your last ‘back burner’ all those years ago! love a cooking video 😊
Oh yay! Have you enjoyed cooking from it?
Love these videos! I do know what you mean about being triggered by a full fridge. It was extra difficult last summer when my closer grocers were burned down or boarded up and I had to rely on friends with cars to bring me things. It meant more food. Also, last summer, I made myself a bowl of cereal at 3 am--another sleepless night in our neighborhood--when I managed to spill some milk. For the first time ever, I understood the adage, "don't cry over spilled milk".
I need that Mac and cheese in my life yesterday! Love this as always. Backburner is my favourite of yours always.
I have never coveted anything as much as that gorgeous knife!
Nothing I enjoy more than having this on whilst I deal with the papers that have accumulated on my desk. It's like having a friend over and we're both just doing our own thing but enjoying each others company. Thanks rosianna 😊 also so glad that you have your bubble of Lex and their sister, also lovely to hear how allotment life is treating them even if the produce isn't up to much this year 😊
This was so soothing and lovely. Thank you for sharing!
This might be dramatic - but Backburner is my favorite series on UA-cam.
This is so great, thank you. I always look for longform videos to form my brain for long thoughts after my office job which is all short term thinking and this is absolutely beautiful. Also, I now want to try all of your recipes.
so happy you made this! and yes, i did lean in to have that bite.
this week i'm going to make a few things from a greek cookbook i found at the library and attempt my first gluten free brioche.
aah i was so excited to see this in my subscriptions! i love this series 💓
I'm glad you did another one of these. TBH I was a bit shocked at the amount of coconut cream that was in the curry but maybe that's what is makes it delicious? The fritters looked ace, I'm definitely going to try those even though I'm afraid of burning myself with the oil...
The spread you made for Lex and their sister looked so lovely and very foreign after a year of lockdown. I miss sharing meals so much!
These videos are just so comforting
Watching your videos always feels like an act of self love - so glad to be graced with another backburner ! 🌻
BACKBURNER RETURNS! I am so excited to watch this! But I’m going to save it for this evening when I can get cozy and do it justice.
How did I not realise Mildreds have a cookbook! Definitely going on my wishlist, I love their dishes. Really lovely seeing you back doing backburners :)
They have two! A vegetarian one and a vegan one. I haven't tried the vegan one.
@@rosianna Oh my word that's excellent news, will have to try out both :)
I love when you ask if we want some. This series is so comforting as someone who has cooked for one so often.
This is my favourite series online I’m so glad it’s back!!
that mac and cheese looked divine!! the whole video was extremely cosy and i was hyped to see a long rosianna vid in my sub box!
I'm so glad Backburner ist back! Thank you Rosianna. It is perfect for my sunday afternoon! I cook through cookbooks as well :)
Yay!! I have been looking forward to this video. I'm making some tasty air fryer roasted potatoes to eat while watch. 😊
I haven’t watched this jet but I am so happy this series is back.
another great backburner! they are one of my favourite video series on youtube
I'm vegetarian and always need good recipes. Thank you for this!
Ah, it's been a while! Was it Anna Jones the last one you did? Glad that the series is back 😊
I think The Modern Cook’s Year was my last one, yeah!
A calming joy - thank you!
I missed this series so much
Very excited to see a new backburner! I have to get back to work, but am keen to watch it when I have time tomorrow 😁
Yay! Good luck with your work :)
I really love this series !
This was so soothing 💖
Aaaahhhhhh!!!! I am so excited
i love this series
I am feeling the kitchen thing, as a person who needs to move and the places with the good kitchens are expensive
glad i'm not the only one who says "that'll do, pig, that'll do" at any random instance. Except mine features a fake British accent rather than a real one...
Princess
Looking forward to "Rosianna and the Quest for the Greater Grater".
