- My first time seeing the music video and hearing the song If I Was by Midge Ure! And I was wrong, as usual. He was NOT with The Police. He was with Ultravox, Visage and Thin Lizzy.

Remember this like it was yesterday... That's what a hit song does. Grinds into your brain. Never to leave. In this case, not a bad thing. Sometimes an ear worm can be a curse.
As others have said, I haven't heard it on the radio in ages.

Why didn't it become a hit in the US????
ASK Farnsey, Barnsey, Kasey, Renee or any number of talented Australian or NZ artists. If you "don't fit the current mold" you have no chance in the US, no matter how good you are.

He's still touring and sounds amazing (I saw him live a few years ago).
He was in the band Ultravox (and Thin Lizzy and Visage). He also co-created Band-Aid and Live Aid, co-wrote "Do They Know It's Christmas", and pjayed every instrument on the track except the drums, which were played by Phil Collins. 😊
Two more great Ultravox songs are "White China" and "A Friend I Call Desire."

He was in Ultravox (check out Vienna) and he also co wrote Do They Know Its Christmas.

Midge was not in The Police, he was in Ultravox. And it’s pronounced ur (not uree).

aww man Scotland's Midge Ure, (pronounced your) was in so many bands. visage ultravox think lizzy etc... and of course he and Ireland's Bob Geldof created the whole band aid movement for ethiopias famine in 1984 . america responded next with usa for africa. great reaction, thank you :D cheers. glad i found this.

You’re pronouncing his name wrong. You seen the first initial of his first name and then for the last time you seen the second mission of his first name plus as last name it’s like you’re saying Mid-jury. Its pronounce Midge-urrrr
