This song makes me thing about so many things...firstly,makes me think of all the innocent people that die just when they thought nothing could happen...people who are happy with their lives and who the Good Lord took them to a better life...it's such a beautiful song and Washington has such a great voice...May Heaven open it's doors to all of you!
I love this song! Accidently ran across him somewhere and now can't get enough. If you listen to some of Bob Dylans' early work, makes me wonder if he didn't listen to Mr. Pillips. This song is very special, and sad to me. Was going to learn it and sing it for my Uncle Carson, who was like a second daddy to me. He'd had one stroke, but before I could sing it for him he had a second one and only lasted a short while. I wonder what he's doing in heaven today?!
What are they doing in heaven today? I don't know boy But it's my biz to say it and sing about it Chorus: What are they doing in heaven today, Where sin and sorrow are all done away? Peace abounds like a river, they say. What are they doing there now? I'm thinking of friends whom I used to know, Who lived and suffered in this world below But they've gone off to heaven, but I want to know What are they doing there now? Oh, what are they doing in heaven today, Where sin and sorrow are all done away? Peace abounds like a river, they say. But what are they doing there now? There's some whose hearts were burdened with care They paid for their moment to fighting and tears But they clung to the cross with trembling and fear But what are they doing there now? (chorus) And there's some whose bodies were full of disease Physicians and doctors couldn't give them much ease But they suffered 'til death brought a final release But what are they doing there now? (chorus) There's some who were poor and often despised They looked up to heaven with tear-blinded eyes While people were heedless and deaf to their cries But what are they doing there now?
This was the perfect song for Drew's (Orlando Bloom) visit to the Oklahoma City Memorial on his road trip home in the movie Elizabethtown. Was a very powerful scene. Love the movie, love how Cameron Crowe is amazing in how he matches soundtracks to his movies.
Such an amazing song.....just heard it on a "Blue Bell" ice cream commercial and had to find it. Song is almost 100 years old but is as wonderful a blessing as the first time it was sung I know. Thank you God for this song.
Let us rejoice that this person, Washington Phillips, who looks like an angel in his old photos and whose music is a gift from God, created these songs on earth and NOT in heaven
Hey guys looking for a song from the movie where Drew is on his "road trip" and the only lyrics I remember are "have you ever needed someone to talk to" Please help, I've been looking for it forever!!! :(
A rare, God gifted musician. Thanks for sharing this.
This is the music of my husband's cousin. I just cannot get enough of listening to this melodious music. by mp

I was just thinking the same thing. Just discover Mr. Phillip's. I am a huge Dylan fan.

Thank you, Mogwai, for 'making' me discover this gem. You did a nice job, but this original is really even more intriguing.
Early Dylan. I hear it too. I wonder if Washington Philips is one of the 400 records he never returned to his pal in Dinkytown.

روعه 🙏
Matti? :)
why's he playing such a tiny piano?
It's probably a spinet. There's a bit of speculation about the instrument he actually played.
According to Wikipedia he made his own auto-harp like instrument, which he called a manzarene
Im here from Schizo
