People may be curious about the use of "D-I-E-C-A" in the video. I, when making the video, was under the assumption that "49531" corresponded with the letters of the alphabet, but have recently read that this may not be the case. I have read things ranging from "the numbers correspond to letters" to "the number is significant because it's prime" to "Pinback's lyrics don't mean anything, they are just meant to blend well with the music". Whatever the case may be, I kind of regret putting it in, but it is what it is.
Thanks for watching.
I have been looking for this song for years. In 2008 my father died, I found him dead when I came home from school-heart attack. I was miserable and depressed. I found this song about 2 months after he passed, and I would play it on loop over and over. Slowly, it faded. I searched for it but couldn’t remember the band or the song name. I finally found it. I found my father again.
I’m so sorry bro
Man...that's heavy. I lost my dad in 2013 and I know what it means to rediscover things that bring him back in some small way, even after all this time. I'm glad you have this song and I hope you're doing well.
Very sorry 🙏
@@adamscofield28 Funny thing is...I was supposed to stay at school all day that day. I had 3 classes back to back. But for some reason I decided to play hookie and go home. I guess I was supposed to find him instead of Mom.
I cried reading this
You're so strong dude
Everything will always be okay to a degree, because you can listen to Pinback in the dark with your eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling, wriggling your toes.
I love this comment with this song
This is so beautiful thank you childlike wonder here
He’s spending all his time, on his back, staring at the ceiling
you have toes still? in THIS economy? hm
indeed
The first round of "Du du du"s sung in syncopation followed by "Du du du"s on beat. It just sends me to heaven. I love Pinback more than words could describe...
This is my go-to nerve calming song. In college I listened to it before every major test. In the real world I use it before interviews or important meetings.
Omg, I am in my 1st year in college and I also listened to this song to calm me down before taking quizzes or exams! I can’t wait to also use this in real world. 😅
@@gunpowdergelatine731 sounds like you have already ;)
Yo same here lol 10 yrs ago this band was on my study playlist
I love how your comment implies college and the real world are separate. It really feels like that sometimes...
mind if I steal your system? =)
Many people don't understand that Pinback is heavenly music.
I didn’t until today.
reminds me of the lonely drives i'd take through the hills of kentucky in my station wagon when i was in high school. good memories
Swellebound 86 Lonely times with songs like these are just amazing...
Still listening @ 30 years old 2019 riding across Appalachia here in TN
Me too!! Kentucky boys have perfect taste.
That’s amazing man I grew up in Kentucky. When I was around 18 and 19 I’d have these random urges late at night to get in my car and go for a long drive sometimes not coming home till sunrise, always playing music like this. I thought I was sad and depressed at the time but now realize those were some of the most beautiful times of my life.
KY sames !!!☺ good times
For those wondering about the numbers 4,9,5,3,1. In an interview, he said he used those numbers because they sounded good in the song. Nothing more.
Perfect.
ptuffgong is right
+Daniel Giroux so are you
RustyWolfFX. I thought they had meaning like Hurley's numbers in Lost
Will Hammer 4 8 15 16 23 42
My youngest son played this for me when he was 16.. and i am thankful everyday. That this band and song exists, that my son has a love for amazing music like his mama. And to know they came out of the 90s.. perfect 💜
❤
College days, getting stoned getting drunk, getting high getting by. Not a worry in my mind.then you wake up one day and 16 years have passed you by. And pinback brings you back
Crazy how it does that. The whole Autumn of the Seraphs album takes me back to my last year of college. It sounds like I had a different experience from you though. In over my head...crappy job...endless stress, but still...hearing this band makes me so nostalgic for that time
I listened to this song on repeat for 12 hour straight on my flight to Barcelona
Me too
We’re all here and alive. Was worried I’d never hear this song again. Pinback-Loro. Never forget it friends.
THAT BASS
No kidding... these guys make the bass tangible again.
Richard Martinez it's never been irrelevant. Always has been the core groove.
Relevant again??? Where did that come from? Good bass line though.
Oh you like this bass? Try three mile pilot. Same guy.
Zach is Awesome!
how have I been alive for so long with out knowing something so beautiful existed. this is my new favorite
I felt the same first time I heard this.
One of my closest friends Craig [he listened to a lot of rap lol] knew about Pinback somehow. Totally random this was our agreed favorite. Sadly he got into OxyContin and chose to take his life back on 2012. God this song is bittersweet.
My condolences for what happened to Craig. Sometimes the most astonishing people you meet are also the most complicated. Hope you've been having a wonderfully rewarding life since last year, Natty😊
....
I got bad into alcohol and almost took my life a few times. Life is precious. I'm so glad that I never took it. I really wanted to at the time. This song really is the reason I am still here, yet, it reminds me of those times. So bittersweet
@Eric Andre I'm still battling my addictions, but I am very happy now. I am doing much better. Stay strong, bud. This world can suck. Just grab your life by the balls and do the best you can, and things may start going better.
And the Ripped Ones say goodbye
Prayers, glad you feel together again, loosing someone to any matter at that is something life never prepares us for, but know this those who we shared those majestic memories with will always be there and never forgotten or replaced. Keep pushing and we all have angels watching over us. I pray you find peace. I’ve delt with loss as many of us do, we just have to put our back against the wall and move forward. They’re not gone they’re just on a journey god needed them for. Music is more then tones and words. It gives us all possibilities and prospective how to march on! Keep your head up! Gods got us! 🙏🤙
Anyone listening to this in 2020 during this pandemic and in quarantine
always
2021
This song just doesn't get old
Neither does my saggy ball sack. Do you have kik? ;)
+Courtney Robertson what the hell?
+Ruben Contreras you got it? ;) it's true
+Courtney Robertson it's weird to randomly post it on a comment not talking about anything weird. It's strange.
+Ruben Contreras I've been waiting for you ;)
pinback never ceases to show us the beauty in teh world
It sounds like he is talking about molecules that bounce around and bond to other molecules by sharing their electrons, or by ripping the electrons away. Molecules make up every single part of our world, and they are colliding all around us...it just makes this song even more beautiful thinking of it that way in my opinion.
Thanks for this

Sou brasileiro, mas admiro muito os jogadores Argentinos.
Reminds me of my pup who I named after this song. He just passed and God I miss him so damn much.
This song and video brought me so much peace during a hard time. It became a touchstone. Revisiting it now, as I need it again. Take care everyone!
Pinback often does the same for me. I hope you're through the hard time and on to better days!
Can you recomend another song like this kind?
this is the most relaxing song ever. what a phenomenal baseline that is. sends me to a special place every time i hear it
I've had this song stuck in my head for years. I've been searching. Thank goodness for the internet because now I can take a nap.
It’s so funny how this is such a common theme with this song. Same deal, I was obsessed when I was younger and totally forgot about it.
Sou brasileiro, mas admiro muito os jogadores Argentinos.
Damn I remember when this video first got uploaded. I’m coming up on loving Pinback for 15 years.
This song still reminds me of absentmindedly wandering down the beach in the pouring rain. It reminds me of high school crushes I’ve long since forgotten about.
I just wanna say... I appreciate the effort you put into editing this.
Thanks!
Yeah ditto props
So happy I remembered this song. It used to be my favorite.
I'm curious, what's your current favorite?
You are the man. Been watching your slides for over a decade now ❤
Wow, that's so nice to hear! Thanks for coming back!🙂
It was a song I made friends back in the late 90s listen to, after we'd all fed ourselves too much blow and whiskey, down off lower Greenville ave. After the last Sonic Youth show in Dallas, at Clearview.
These kids couldn't stop asking me who the band was...
I was like, it's Pinback man. Shut up douche....Pinback rocks...
Fuck yeah
And they were like "huh huh huh, heh heh, cool "
I came across this album years ago, and this track stood out to me then as it does now. I partially regret now having such easy access to the lyrics, because they were entirely different in my head without seeing the real ones. Still, what a beautiful fold of music and poetry, and still it can have such varying meaning across people or across time. Such is found, I believe, only in the truest art.
I like how the pictures change to the bass line - nice job! :)
two basses
and, yes, I like it, too!
Logan Mohler it actually changes to the vocal patterns.
the pics change with the bass in the beginning, i think we can all agree that thw vid is cool without nitpicking.
shiznicks74 just stating a fact. if you can't deal with that I apologize.
I used to listen to Pinback obsessively back in 2010 when I went to Uni. Every so often I come back to these shores and take a dive. I'm here again.
There needs to be a love button
Have so much appreciation for this song. I have exponential appreciation for someone who understood this song well enough to involve that many perfect aesthetic frames within syncopation.
I'm glad you liked it! Thank you for the kind words
there is nothing in the world better than this song. love love love.
Jay McG I love the song - but I'd say it's quite the downer.
Jay McG Daaaaaaamn dude chill haha just a song. and ***** it's my favorite song to listen to when I'm just hanging out, glad you like it too :)
i've been listening to this song for years, decades. it still brings me comfort. thanks.
I remember skating to this. Somewhere around 2015 or 16. Brings back memories of going down the biggest hill in my neighborhood while watching the buildings pass by. . Hopefully one day I'll skate to this again...
I'm wondering, has that day come?
This appeared on my Spotify recommendations but played by The Story So Far
Which is an amazing cover.
Life is strange
This song is and has been since 2002 what my SOUL sounds like-- when everything is right...
So whenever I need to reset, this is what I listen to. STILL my very favorite song, 2 decades later... And your video couldn't be more apropos 💕
Thanks man! I hope you're finding yourself in a time where everything is right
And the ripped ones never collide, while the others, while the others, while the others...
I’ve been listening to them a lot lately, new fan right here!
They are an awesome band and once they get in your head they're there forever. I'm curious what some of your other favorites are.
Also, I'm not sure if you're aware but the Deftones have a beautiful song named Minerva. Not sure if you're into that genre, but it was the first thing that popped in my head when I saw your name.
Heard this song from Spotify for the first time and I'm pretty much blown away how amazing this song is. Feels very nostalgic.
Oh my god... no words can explain this tune.
The story so far mastered this cover. Both still amazing just depends on mood
love both but the lofi production on this one gives it such a spacey charm that tssf couldn't top
@@clarkcant4818 they never intended it to be lofi, thats why it's a "cover". they made it their own way.
@@clarkcant4818 hello.. where can i found the lofi verison?
What an amazing video. This song is great in just about everyway, how the lyrics are strangely puzzling, how the bassine sends my thoughts whriling, how the entire tone of the song lifts my spirits yet, somehow, makes me think of loves lost. Very nice work on the photos.
This song was me and my ex girlfriends song. I was a kid and she was my first love and every-time I listen to it, It brings me back to that time in my life, the good and the bad. This song will always be a bookmark for me.
I'm curious, does it still?
I'm moving from the Midwest to PNW soon and this will be on repeat for a good majority of the drive
Should make for an awesome drive! Safe travels
Just the right.amount of string, drum & "duh duh duh duh da da duh da doww" & that funny "Chica chic" reminds.me of.my.days as.a huge ska fan... Pinback. Always soothes
Had this on a "rainy days" playlist. My dear friend passed away this past tuesday. I was ok till i heard this song on my way home from work after hearing about him right be for my shift started that morning that i really broke down and let it out. Now this song is (for me) in his memory
Thank you for sharing this. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. I'm glad to hear that this song was the catalyst to being able to release and the conduit to memories with your friend. I hope you're doing ok.
@@adamscofield28 Thank you for taking the time to write me. Appreciate the good wishes. Much love
so glad my sister wrote this in my songbook. couldn't feel and more grateful!
Pinback has been my favorite band since I heard Seville! Great video ❤️
I love how during the "4, 9, 5, 3, 1" the pictures in the slide play quite a significant visual role. Brilliant.
There's something that I love about videos like these. Old UA-cam uploads of songs featuring pictures you couldn't find on Google images if you tried now. This video in particular is one I frequently come back to. There's some sort of allure to me about the low res pictures and the way they change to the beat of the bass. Probably something to do with the simplicity of the how the internet used to be. This is also one of my favorite songs, like, ever.
Low res, and many with watermarks I wasn't clever enough to hide, ha ha ha. Thanks for the kind words and for helping me better appreciate things that I normally cringe at about this video, ha ha ha. And thanks for frequently coming back, though I'm sure that's probably more for the music than the slideshow, but thanks all the same!
2021? who's here still loving pinback ❤
Pinback has such a timeless rhythm.
This fan made video perfectly cuts between beats and vocals, I just love it
This has been my favorite song for like 10 or 15 years (or whenever it came out). I downloaded it on Napster back when it was the thing. They were an "up and coming artist" or something like that and were featured. So glad I discovered Pinback and this song!
This is my favorite song of all time. Heard it first in late 2015. Had to figure out what it was instantly. So glad I did. I'd say so much more about it and what it means to me, but if you're watching this video I'm sure you already kind of get it.
ive been watching this video for years everytime I want to hear this song. thank you for making great art.
Good to finally know the rightful maker of this video. I have been watching this video for years now, and I must say it is a true work of art. It never gets tired of being watched, with all the unique visually stunning photos you chose, and how you intricately edited these images to fit each beat of the musicians craftmanship, like a well-fitted sweater, Plus it was my introduction to this awesome band. You made quite the impression...good job!!
What a nice guy.
+Brett Crow what a niceee cereal box!
I have also been watching this video for an incredibly long time. A song that has a lot of meaning to me. I noticed at 2:14 the three sisters, a rock formation in katoomba, NSW. I have been to this place several times in my life as I live in Australia. Strange, but beautifu.
Wow...thanks man. I put it together over several days, sitting in a Barnes & Noble while procrastinating on a college paper. It's nice to know that my slacking resulted into something people somewhat enjoy. Six years late, but thank you for the kind words
@@adamscofield28 just now discovering this gem but yeah. The clip is very dope
Discovered this today... Immediately became one of my favourite! Thanks for posting it... Pictures are superb.
Every fucking time I hear this song it’s instant chills. Good job with the visuals.
Thanks! I'm...apparently 2 years late responding to this comment, but thank you! I feel the same way about the song. I often space out how frequently I listen to it, because I don't want to lose that feeling.
@giggitypimp I absolutely agree with you... When I'm feeling down, I just watch this video, it tells me that there's so much beauty in life, and on this earth. It reminds me that there's just so much in life, too much to fulfill with our individual lives. Life brings so many questions to mind. I wish so many people could enjoy this video, and one of music's best kept secrets, which is Pinback.
Peace and Love.
Back when I smoked, I loved listening to this song. The video is pretty great too.
I remember finding this from a random youtube comment back in 2017 on what I think was a Seether music video? They were pretty arrogant towards Seether, but they did provide Pinback as an example of a better band, and since then, this has been up there with Boa and Seether for being my mental health music, just letting me rest, unpack all the burdens and cozy down. Thank you random UA-cam comment that I cannot find for the life of me
Points for seeing past that commenters pretentiousness and being able to appreciate Pinback despite it. My instinct would have been "bashing a band I like? screw the band you like" ha ha ha.
I like your description of them being mental health music. We all need that music, and I can definitely see Pinback fitting that description.
Your comment just sent be back down a Seether rabbit hole. Driven Under and Breakdown have always been the top for me. I'm curious...do you prefer Broken with, or without Amy Lee?
@adamscofield28 I reckon the version with Amy Lee hits harder, cause it's about their broken relationship, due to Shaun's at the time alcoholism issues which was pretty bad. The solo version is good too, but I think the version with Amy Lee sounds brilliant. Driven Under has always been a favourite for me too, with Burrito being at second
BEAUTIFUL. There has been something missing in my musical tastes these past couple of years. It was Pinback. So glad to have them back in my life.
Good song to roll up a joint to and kick back while you're contemplating life
most definitely
Or just after a mad wank
Really? Weed? You can keep the talk of drugs to yourself, while the rest can be said. No one cares if they can't have any. Nah just kidding, but it is cancer to talk about snortin' one (made that up myself) to a cool song. It just derails the good vibe.
+Logan Mohler ha ha keep thinking so.
+Ruben Contreras look up annual deaths of marijuana compared to any other drug, before you go hating
nostalgic. these pics fit with my feelings with every pinback song. well done.
Thank you, Pinback, for this amazing song. I needed it right now.
One of the chillest songs ever and this video is so epic and beautiful. Thank you.
Thank you!
TSSF does a great cover of this. However the original is so perfect! Both versions are very good for different reasons, even thought almost nothing is changed musically. Rad!
you should check out all of tssf's acoustic covers, theyre all incredible
This is the most amazing video i've seen in a while. I adore the song and the visuals are outstanding!
un des meilleurs groupe de musique ,,, et la voix du chanteur nous accompagnent dans la douceur des nuages
This song and surfing with my best friend was the only comfort I had during my most testing moment. Forever in my heart
Thanks for putting this video together. Love it. I will be rewatching this several times. Need to be able to process all of the images!
Glad you enjoyed it!
such an underrated group
Profound in a mellow sort of way
Aloha
This is a fantastic video. Paired with the track it brought some tears. Thank you.
this song is addictive. it is so beautiful. i cannot stop playing it!
No regrets please! Nicely done. I'm glad I found this.
The imagery is great. Helps for missing loved ones.
This song always reminds of one of my main buddies, Craig Sullivan. He decided to end his life back in 2012. We became homies over our mutual love of skateboarding and Pinback. I remember agreeing that “Loro” is a perfect song. Miss ya pal.
The ripped ones say goodbye
I love this song from the bottom of my heart, thank you for the video.
Thanks for stopping by!
Great photos and editing!
This song is so amazing, as is Pinback.

I had to put aside my "That isn't the real song!" impulse the first few listens, but it definitely grows on you as its own entity. I like it a lot! Also, their other song from that EP, Clairvoyant, is one of the most amazing acoustic songs I've ever heard. Looking at their spotify, that is apparently not a unique take, but it is absolutely incredible.
Thank you ❤
Thank you Adam for posting with lyrics.
Cant believe this is from 1998 and i just found this song/group. great video - thanks for the post.
Nice! Heart love it. Elizabethtown movie soundtrack on youtube brought me here.
I had no idea it was on that soundtrack. Is the movie worth a watch?
Your an extremely talented guy Adam, as a Pinback fanatic myself you nailed and obviously get it
Thanks for the kind words. I hope you're doing well 6 years after this comment.
I cant believe this is from 1998. great video @Breatheandfeel. Thanks for posting.
Excellent work Adam! More positivity like this and we're sorted. Thank you x
Thanks for the kind words! Seven years later, but I hope you're doing well!
Saw them play this in London years ago, pretty sure they said something about 49531 being part of an ex-girlfriend's phone number.. Beautiful tune. Cool vid.
honestly, my favorite Pinback song. Makes me love life!
The comments to this song are amazing...
I personally just think of being in my late teens/early twenties and driving somewhere fun and exciting. About 10 years ago is when I first heard this song and have been considering naming my next kid after it.
That would be awesome to name a kid after this song! And it's so cool that it takes you back to fun road trips. It is a perfect driving song, but for me it takes me back to the walks between college classes...a few minutes to mentally escape before the reality of responsibility set back in. In the end...just a great song to go somewhere to.
I had dreams of writing the most beautiful song ever... Now it will never come to fruition because Pinback already wrote it
adored the song for years.... watching as this video reacts to the orgasmic bassline just puts me at a new level of relaxation
