    This week I talk about one of the differences between landscape photography and street photography (sometimes), and what it has taught me about the value of photos. I also fail at an old location again...

    The second camera is far better for handholding, I thought the a7 was uncomfortable to watch. The Pocket 2's audio quality is really very good considering it's just the built in mic. Also I love the idea of going back to street photography in the Summer.

    DJI Pocket is great. Personally, I would only use it for handheld videos and a tripod for videos with the big camera. The downside is only one card slot, so no real-time backup. The image is good enough in good lighting.

    I have to say, I absolutely LOVE your 'street' photos even though I don't really agree with the gripe that so many outdoor/landscape photographers seem to have about summer conditions and photography... but yeah if we get to see more street photos that's great!

  • @willsamuelheather
    @willsamuelheather 2 роки тому

    Street photography, like you said, is so much more than the 'in your face' style. Lights, shapes, colour, subjects etc. and you can go about it in a similar way to you do now: finding a location and keep returning in different conditions, or perhaps more random (not to undermine the alternative in any way). I'm a street photographer, but love your travel/landscape stuff (and your personality), so would definitely welcome so more street style videos in the future. Plus, it can be so lightweight: one camera, one lens, no tripod!

    The back and forth in the studio was amazing 😂. I definitely prefer the DJI pocket to the Sony A7 for the walking shots. The Sony was way too jittery. Yes, the quality of the DJI wasn’t quite as good but it still looked good, the sound was good and the smoothness was miles better. I love your street photography stuff as well as your outdoors photography so seeing more of that would be cool. As you say, it is probably a bit more suited to summer light as well 👍

    The DJI pocket keeps tempting me, as I want a portable walking cam, but its lack of weather sealing worries me in Wales 😅
    And I sympathise - summer has been pretty terrible for my photography too. The heat haze has been kicking in like 20 mins after the sun rises. I've also lost track of a few local paths because the ferns have gone that crazy 🥲

    As you said, not quite as good sound, not quite as good image, but the stability kills the competition. "You probably not noticed", oh, definitely. I will take the stable shot over the slightly degraded quality, because unless you had pointed it out, I would probably never have noticed or thought about it. You can, however, attach a lav mike using the wireless microphone thingamajig for the Pocket 2, which would at least improve that bit.
    But yes, stability.

    Just recently started following the photography community on Twitter. Can’t believe how sick I am of looking at amazing photos of mountains and lakes, Northern lights and mountains and lakes, snowy mountains and lakes. I just feel spammed every time I open my feed. Nice to be able to get to these places and take pictures. But I’m disabled and can barely walk. If I can park somewhere and find a shot within 20 meters of the car, I’m happy. But right now, I can’t look at another landscape. Love your work.

    Heads up! I had a "Lexar Professional" gold-label 1000x 128 GB card UHS-II card that cracked when I was unloading it from my Canon 6D. UHS-II SD cards are quite thin on the pin end and one of the corners of the pin end is where it cracked. Even though the pins are all intact, I stopped using the card immediately. When I contacted Lexar about the warranty and described the issue, they informed me that they do not cover "physical damage" to their cards. I was somewhat astonished as it was an expensive card (at the time), I had only used the card a few times, and I had not done anything at all to abuse the card -- I simply had been inserting in into my camera and my card reader, as I have been doing with every card I had ever owned since the early 2000s. I was an all-Lexar man up to that point, but that changed my mind about them. I still have the card, all shiny and new looking, with that cracked corner fin, and keep it as a reminder that Lexar disappointingly does not necessarily stand behind their card warranties.

    You absolutely can notice. The Sony is jittery as hell. Sounded a bit better for whatever reason but the Sony was rude. I for one would love to see your take on street photography. [Ben Stiller face]: "Do it"

    Love the video! Your videos always chill me out :) and definitely DJI for the video and even the audio is great, I find in my street photography that people love the photos that I think are terrible, the ones I think are amazing don't get as much attention 😅

    I agree with your thoughts on how the audience perceive any given photo. The overwhelming majority of people won't give a damn if you woke up at 4AM and waited 2 hours for the sunrise or for the fog to appear or even if you scouted that location some months prior. They want to feel something when watching the photo, how you get there is irrelevant.

    What I would do with a blank sky like that is to add a vignette to the sky to help add some depth and guide the viewer's eye. Or replace the sky with one from my own collection, but that only works well sometimes and not everybody is ok with doing so.

    The DJI action is pretty good. I have a DJI OSMO II and it has a wireless mic setup, and really good for walking vlogs.
