I just found your channel a couple of days ago and I absolutley love the game dev logs you are doing on your projects. I appreciate the low price point on your games and how you've given each it's own feel. You had a clear goal for the game and wanted to get something out to players for the holiday. If you did another run at this style for christmas ect, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out even better with the experience you picked up here. Keep these videos coming, the art of game making is always facinating to see!
So glad to hear that you're liking them, and welcome! I definitely want to keep on building on this framework, maybe a roguelike with actual room generation next, we'll see! Will keep on doing what I'm doing, and I hope you enjoy what's coming! 😎
I would like to hear more about post launch and I think it's a really cool way to test out graphics and code/mechanics you're currently working on. The whole make a small game with it thing that is. Looks fun and aesthetically pleasing too
This looks amazing man. Really excited to see what else you have in store. Was a huge fan of Outbound Ghost. Love that you continue that art style and such. Will 110% be getting Synth Beasts & your upcoming RPG
I got my Lenovo Legion Go yesterday (actually typed this out on it) and I've been playing "Wanted Shadows" ever since. I love it. It's so addictive. My little brother thought it was funny when he heard the game was only $1.34, but the game is so good. Definitely can't wait to see what else you release, considering this was Sooo good for $1.34.
Eyyy congrats, that's awesome! So glad to hear that you're enjoying it, and your brother's comment is funny 😂 Made the game as cheap as possible so that as many people as possible could play it! Also, if you enjoyed the game, a review on Steam would be mega helpful, boosts the game in the Steam algorithm :)
Congrats! It's sometimes really good idea to pause the big project and release something simple and fast. I'm in a very same situation trying to get rid of the big project during these days 😂
Bought your game and played it for a few hours today. It really has the potential to be huge! Loved the twinstick mechanic, the weapons felt nice and I instantly got different strategies to work. Overall a really nice experience 😊 There is a bit of criticism tho: - When I play a stage on Ascended 6 please just give me all the achievements for 1-5 as well. The effects of 1-6 stack up so I should get the achievements as well. It's a really boring timesink to grind them if you've beaten a stage at the highest difficulty. - The performance is lacking, especially on hell stage. The hits don't feel as good or powerful if the game nearly crashes every time I hit something. I also had to disable the music, cuz it got interrupted by the other sound effects and that was horrible. Just turned on the lofi radio tho 😅 - I had a bug in the newest champion. I basically stacked all skills that gave me a shorter dazzle refresh. I got one from skill from a miniboss and then picked up the 🍺. This reset my whole attackspeed and I was really slow once again after I was really powerful. Hope I can help u with the feedback, have a nice one ❤
I was thinking about something like this recently, I was wondering how it would be to make & publish a game on steam in 4 weeks instead of 2 weeks, so super cool to see someone do it too, also as someone mentioned here stock footage really doesn't feel right for game dev videos
Glad you enjoyed the video, and if you're considering doing it I recommend you give it a try, you'll just lose 2-4 weeks in the worst case scenario ;) Regarding the stock footage, I totally get it, but it feels like a better option at the moment than just playing irrelevant/repetitive gameplay! Always on the lookout to improve and I have some ideas though!
@@Conradical Yup will definitely look to do it down the line as I'm more focused on figuring out UA-cam as a game dev right now. 😁 That's great! as long as you're aware & looking to improve!
Thank you, I'm flattered you'd think that ;) Nope, haven't played it actually! I've been making games in this 2D in 3D style for over 3 years though, so I'm used to it :)
This is a really cool idea, thank you for that! I have been struggling with learning game dev and making my dream game. This nuclear approach might work for me better! But what should I do if I can't register my dev account on Steam? I'm Russian living in Russia. We're cut off from international payment systems and many services. Should I seek a publisher for that kind of a small first game who would be able to register a Steam page for me? Do you guys have any other ideas for me? Thanks.
Glad you like the concept! Definitely worth trying, helped me a lot at least :) Yeah that's a tough situation... If you have regional stores maybe that's your best bet for now, otherwise you could always release on Itch.io for free purely for the improvement factor, but then you don't get to benefit financially from the smaller games. Hard for sure, sorry about that :/
I already bought Wanted Shadows early this morning. Had it wishlist for a while, got the email it was out this morning. Definitely want that RPG you're working on. I'm going to buy Soul Stalker too, just waiting for my Lenovo Legion Go, just waiting for it to come in the mail because I'm still not sure if Steam games work on it, even tho it's a mini PC.
Eyyy that means so much :) hope you like playing them! I don't have a Lenovo Legion, but I've heard its even more powerful than the steam deck, and I can confirm it runs like a dream there, so I think you'll have a great time:)
It's never too late to go for it! ;) I think coding probably starts out as everyone's weakness in some form or another, but you can get better at it super fast if you try to make many projects on the edge of your comfort zone!
Glad it was useful! Do you mean for the actual character controller, or the character art? For the character controller I make everything myself in Unity, and for the character art our artist uses MS Paint (not kidding, he's awesome) 😂 Aseprite is a good pixel art tool too though!
So really it took however long those other two games took to make this one. A little misleading in the title. Yeah the time it took you to cobble this together was only 2 weeks, but you still had to have these graphics made for another game, and code you put into previous games.
Nah, hate aiming with mouse. Games like these are much better with autoaim imo. Getting your cursor lost in the action sucks real bad. Every rogue-lite like this should have that option. Really helps focus on movement and allows for much more pizzazz in terms of visual stimuli.
Fair enough! My other game, Soul Stalker, has no aiming so that might be more of your think :) Wanted to differentiate both games and go for different design goals, so that's the reasoning! Glad I did it, makes both games feel very distinct and it's always good to have a varied catalogue of games!

I think i might make a post launch video! There are definitely a few things I could talk about.
And glad you think so :)
YES, add aiming to Synth Beasts and make it a Pokemon Zelda Twin Stick Shooter!
Might have to do that 👀
@@Conradical we need this
Making a commercial game in two weeks is actually mind blowing, even if you had some code from synth beasts to start with.
Amazing work!
Thank you so much! :)
Great video :) All the work really paid off, awesome game.
Thank you :) Glad you like it! :D

Tried the game out and I loved it! Played a couple hours before work, keen to unlock the other characters later tonight

it would be cool to have a video explaining how the game went, and how you marketed it !
Thanks for the suggestion, might do that!
did you works on cult of the Lamb or inspired by it? the game combat looks so clean good job man.

Make more videos ( make a video about how much money you made 🤑💸💸🤑 )

Cool! If i can do coding like you, I'll be making Dozens of games every year. Coding is my ONLY weakness, else I can do all.

Fair enough, but I personally disagree! Pokemon always re-uses their 3D models and combat systems, but they still count as separate games :)
