That is a truly excellent finish, considering its age it genuinely looks better than factory new! Well done ASE and congrats Jish on your project so far!
Very Awesome. This has helped keep me inspired. I'm in the middle of an XJ650 Maxim Build myself. The frame is torn down ready for blast and tearing down the motor. 81 been sitting 20 yrs. Can't wait to go back up. You have defiantly given me good ideas and seen places to get parts! Thanks again.
Looks really good mate just a couple of points you might want to consider. 1/ where you have sanded of the rocker cover fins if you clear coat those surfaces to prevent oxidization. 2/ in that recess under Yamaha on the engine cover you could fit a badge with your logo on it.
Hey man! I will be making something for the blank gaps ;) I will keep an eye on the top and if it starts to corrode i will clear coat them. It will take time masking everything up 😅
That was so fun to watch! I love the crackle black you used for the rocker cover and the top of the carbs. It's going to look so good with that frame. Keep it up! Excited to see a rolling chassis.
Mate this has come up fantastic, love seeing something so feral come up so good, Great idea with the plugs too. 👍 Really enjoyed this video keep up the great work 🙌
Man that is a great and thorough job there. Love the rough paint on the cylinder head. I can already see the epic finish on this build! Keep it up mate.
@jishh or anyone, if you have the .stl for 3d print on these plugs, please share. I'm working on my xj750 scrambler project and getting great inspiration from your series, thanks.
What an excellent job, I actually spend a lot of time on the video, I'm currently working on an equal engine. you have a simple electrical diagram with pleasure I share a photo with you
Hey man I'm watching all your videos and they are rellay professional and well made. You're doing a great job with this bike, it's gonna look great !!! The only thing I was expecting a bit more was more diy and less external help. Anyway just wanted to thank you for sharing all this. Peace
Some jobs its better to take to someone who knows what they are doing 😊 plus i dont have an ultrasonic cleaner or vapour blaster myself and those are key to a good finish
im doing the same bike i found the r1 forks and was too anxious i was just going to install and ride but after seeing your frame and engine after the work and powder coat yes this frame needs that. i wish i had that seca tank but am thinking i like the royal enfield and will use the stock maxim seat, uncover it, reform my foam and recover utilizing the original seat in a cafe racer style. thanks for the inspirsation jish your bikes are awesome. i will also be attempting to swap the 650 cams with the xj700-non-x cams so fingers crossed i have the cams and valve shims and buckets for those cams.
Lot of progress this time, good stuff lad. Couple tips, Don't use a Philips screwdriver in a pozidrive screw, you'll round it out. You've polished any remaining coating off those rocker cover bolts so they'll rust real swift. Maybe look into having them replated. If you have to hammer the starter in, you've possibly pinched the O ring.
Looks amazing. I want to do that to my same engine so bad. I just used some ( Simple Green) to clean mine up. Lol didn’t turn out nearly as nice as your. That’s a future goal of mine
Another smashing Video Jish my Friend! You've come a LONG Way since your early days with the 125. Truly honing your craft and learning as you go. Simply Brilliant! Cheers my Friend! Zip~
I was watching back some old videos and it was blatant how much i have progressed! Sometimes its hard to see but we all progress in our own ways ✌️ thank you though man! Take it easy ⚡️
Not sure if it's been mentioned, but a couple things. * I hope the throttle shaft seals were replaced with new ones on each carb. * Those 8 valve cover "donuts" have to be replaced or the new gasket WILL leak because it's not being pushed down enough. * You should check the valve clearances as well. Most of these bikes never had them checked after being bought new and will be way tight. Looks absolutely awesome though! I'd love to re finish my 750 Seca engine. I will clean it as best i can this spring, but I just don't have the room to do a frame off.
WOW you made this look magnificent. not your first rodeo as we say over here in NA. I'm in Canada and even back in 2001-2002 I had difficulty sourcing replacement parts from Yamaha. I had to go ebay and get some salvage items.
Aside from the vapor blasting, how were the carbs cleaned on the inside? Ultrasonic bath, or just solvent? Any details on that would be greatly appreciated. It’s been fun watching these videos!
I actually haven't spent much on doing this man! although I had the help from some great people, its still pretty cheap to do. just lots of effort and elbow grease :)
Jish come on mate, if thats not perfect then i dont know how shitty my results on the cx are😂😂. You inspire many like me and I hope I get to your level someday and then I'm happy👍🏻
Really enjoyed that, I'd rather wait for a video of that quality, production and content are both outstanding. Brilliant results on the engine and carbs with the vapour blasting and the crinkle coat. Just one wee thing, have you thought about getting the nuts and bolts re-plated as opposed to leaving them raw after cleaning on the wire wheel? It's usually cheap to get a bucket of fixings done and I'd have thougt there'd be plenty of places to do it in the Midlands.
Thanks Paul! I did think about it and I still may do that. the bolts I put back on the engine area all brand new stainless steel apart from the head nuts and rocker cover ones. im planning on replacing most of the hardware for the rest of the bike for new stuff as most of it was corroded
Great video, photography as well professional-kudos. Would it be possible to learn what degreaser and liquid used on Carbs were? I'm doing an XJ600 DOHC mostly by hand and creative thinking, but any tips on solvents would be immensly appreciated, thanks.Looking foward to all the other vids!;)
Thanks bud! Maybe a degreaser or just carb cleaner will do the trick 👍 vapour blasting and ultra sonic cleaning needs the parts to be stripped down first
I did look as one of mine was that corroded a hole punched through whilst being shot blasted before powder coat. so I had it welded up and ground back and it was fine :).plus the crackle black hides a lot of the corrosion
Hi, great job :-) I ride a XJ600 from 1986. It seems that both motorbikes (XJ650 and XJ600) have a similar engine. Since my XJ600 has a chain as a transmission, do you think it would be possible to thansfer the drive shaft from the XJ650 to my XJ600? Thank you.
Great vids! I’m doing a xj900f which is very similar. The 8 carb to engine M6 manifold bolts are so seized they are impossible to remove. Anybody else had the same problem?
So it's a reseal, not a rebuild, re-ring, rebuild or overhaul. That would mean that it has oil leaks the allow oil to escape the engine and transmission, but when tested there isn't a huge loss of compression. This is the rarest engine work that an engine could actually be needed and nothing else is wrong with the engine. As an Auto Parts Countermen and engine builder for well over 20 years, I can tell you I've sold a lot of reseal kits but those engines smoked badly and they were nothing you would want on your ride!
Vapour blasting???? Hopefully I can get my atv 185 engine done in Hampshire! Looks amazing anyone know anyone that does it let me know. Good job tho she looks mint
Yep! I didn’t really show me doing it in the video but i jammed a spark plug down it as i had one that was the perfect size 😆 all holes into the engine have to be covered
New subscriber here, damn wish I came across this channel ages ago!! I'm guna go back and start from the 1st video lol BTW wat part of brum are you in? I'm looking for a vapour blaster to do my cylinder
Thanks bro I'm in kingstanding I've got a long term project I've been doing, hoping u maybe able to point me in right direction for certain places I.e vapour blasting, chroming or anodizing. Also do you know anywhere local for motorbike dyno? Cheers mate,ur vids keep guys like me sane lol
@@jishh - Okay, it's your bike so I am not to tell you what to do. I would just not have accepted that gasket since it does not fit the cover completely. But...that's just me. Hope it works out for you then.
Great to see the full assembly back together! Glad to be a part of it and happy to help!
Thanks again for the awesome work on the carbs!
Im subbing to you immediatly. Im currently taking apart my xj650 maxim. And hoping i can get it to look as good as this does.
Good luck with the build man!
@@jishh thanks so much Jish! Love your videos man! Cant wait to see your bike complete.
The happiness i felt at the end office video ... Beautiful , as newborn.
Mint, very therapeutic seeing an engine cleaned up.
Thanks Des! it was so nice to see how well It all came out and what was hiding under all that crud
Big thumbs up for the Macallister Orbital Sander, I too am an avid Screwfix enthusiast.
YICS it is. Awesome stuff
That is a truly excellent finish, considering its age it genuinely looks better than factory new! Well done ASE and congrats Jish on your project so far!
Thank you bud ☺️ he did a cracking job
Wow brother you definitely outdid yourself on this one, fantastic video and amazing end result on the engine 👍
It came out so much better than expected!

That engine looks soo promising i can't imagine how beautiful the bike will be😍 great job mate.
it really excites me to think how it will look when its done! thanks man
Nice! Gives me more motivation to do my engine while I'm restoring my 84 magna
Great to see some of the lads from the Midlands and what they can do real craftsmanship looks ace
Midlands do it best!

Really enjoyed this video keep up the great work 🙌
i have started my own custom bike build last week! this video is definitely helpfull!
glad I can help :)
Great work, more engines shots though 👍👍👍
Everyone seems to go for the wrinkled black for the look, but it also has the benefit of doubling the surface area so is great for heat dissipation.
that texture looks so cool
A nice contrast against the gloss 👌
Top draw! What a beautiful looking engine... great job
Appreciate it bud! can't wait to get it back in the frame :)

It was a gamble but im glad i rolled with it 👌
Good effort 👍
Looking forward to next episode and eventually a finished project😎
Hopefully it will all just start slotting together! Thanks for watching ✌️
Yeah finally another video! Will watch in my break!
I hate how long they can sometimes take, but its been worth taking the time on this part! enjoy my dude!
Looking sweet Jish. You should get those blanking plugs into production mate...great idea.
problem is every bike has different size ports haha! not a bad idea though!
Yeah but there will be a finite range of popular sizes and I'm already thinking who do I know with a 3D printer to make some for my bike! 😁
