Well done! A small tip when soldering: When you put the screw in the vice it will lead the heat away. Using a thin clamp instead will avoid this. Also best to spend some time getting the metal you are soldering onto also really hot, the solder should melt straight away when applying it. You want to avoid cold solder joints, where the solder more or less only sticks to the wire and barely to the metal. This is extra important on a motorcycle where you have a lot of vibrations.
Nice. The first start is a big milestone. Now it is just the millions of small stuff left... and before u put the cutting wheel in the tank take a step back and se the line. The nice line running at the bottom of the tank to to rear top shock mounts. That curve u have at the rear of tank almost comes again at the shock mounts. Looks nice and symetric.
They require the use of the choke on first start up of the day and always on cold days. Make sure all the chokes are pulling the same. Sometimes the set screws come loose.
So glad that i found your page im actually building my own cafe bike and it is a Yamaha xj650 so these videos are very helpful cant wait till i finish it, continue doing these godly videos!
Love the channel. Make sure you add tags for "Container workshop". Man there's so many of us that look for that and it's basically so hard to get any good videos :)
Your channel is seriously godsent. You are setting me years forward with my own project as a first timer. Perhaps you can try to get yourself even more publicity. Maybe post your work on Reddit (there are a bunch of subreddits for this, r/caferacers included), that new TikTok trend as well or wherever else you can get even more traction. You came a long way already, if you can get yourself out there more, you can probably get even further. Keep it up, many props and thanks.
On my xj 650 project, mine was revving too high like that too, turned out to be vacuum leaks on the throttle shaft seals and the engine-side boots. Fixed with new shaft seals and boot gaskets
Might have been easier to solder to the bolt head with something handy with reasonable heat insulating properties either side between the bolt and the vice. Just to stop all the heat from the soldering iron soaking straight into the vice
Hey jish. I’ve been following you since I started my project and found you on here. Well I have 3 but only one on the go lol. Keep up the good work bud. Well I just finished the step your now going through. Just FYI I upsized my jets due to aftermarket filters like yours as well as the open exhaust. Even after that it didn’t run quite right so I borrowed a carb sync tool from my master tech brother in-law and now she purrs! Anyways keep up the good work and hang in there buddy. I can’t wait to see your final product. You’ve inspired me beyond my own passion for these bikes which already runs deep. Cheers 👍
I had the same problem with my xj750. It’s was a vacuum leak. So although your carbs most likely do need to be synced, I would also check for vacuum leaks.
I don’t like the headlight but it’s your build you’re doing a great job I just thing the classic circle headlight really brings out the classic cafe look
I see what you are doing here working on editing skills haan great work brother we all are with you in this i wish i could do a project with you maybe in future btw that intro was cool 😂🙌
Good video Jish and congrats on getting it running. I'm getting closer to getting my engine built and finally running too. I think color tuning is worth it as its not so easy to get these tuned properly without some tools to help the process.
@@jishh I'll be posting a detailed video of my XJ650 engine build in the next day or two. Check it out, also my recent video on carbies will show you how you can sync with engine not running before fine tuning. The YICS tool isn't worth buying imo. its just a hole between carbs, remove the end plugs and just pull an old rag through there to block them off.
Had the exact same problems with my XJ750 (i.e. the high revving on startup). Im assuming you have already tried adjusting the idle screw between carbs 2 and 3 to drop this down. I'd recommend getting a colortune, makes it easy to get the idle mixture right and looks pretty cool. When I did my carb sync i didn't actually buy the YICS tool, but saw online that you can tie knots in a rag, soak it in oil and stuff it down the length of the YICS port. This will isolate the cylinders from each-other and seemed to work (try at own risk haha). That being said, before I could even get the bike to run decent enough to use the colortune and sync them up, I put a full carb kit through it (New idle and main jet, needle and float bowl needle as well as adjusting the float heights) I believe my bike was running too lean and yours might too because of your intake and exhaust (cant remember if you had it rejetted when the carbs were done). Bike looks great otherwise!
Thanks buddy! Carbs have only had a clean and no jets or anything yet. I just wanted to get it running before i went down to refining it and tuning it. Ill most likely do all that towards the end of the build as i need to now finish the wiring now i know it works 😁
Good video. I have been doing a build for a very very very long time. It did run but one day stopped and no spark in either plug. Triumph Bonnie motor so two coils. The CDI and coils very new but a couple of years old. Don't suppose two new coils will fail on the same day. Not a mechanic and building this in the back of my pickup. Has fuel. Any suggestions where to start? Motogadget M-unit blue installed by dealer. He checked starter operation but didn't check for spark as tank was off.
@jish lol man I’m so excited! My bike (same bike, just no YICS) does something very similar. Cleaned the carbs 3 times, berry man chem dip, sonicated them, fuck, I even boiled them lol. Replaced all worn out pieces. I’ve been struggling with colortuning and also syncing the carbs with gauges. Doesn’t want to cooperate like other bikes I see. Lol I’ve done the ‘shit my pants dance’ so many times already. Hell, my bike revved up like that while I was on a test drive(on a turn) and of course I shat my pants and low sided. Luckily I just broke a blinker and bent the handlebars. Lol I won’t drive it again until it stops that crazy ass unpredictable rev. Something that made a difference so far, but it’s not perfect yet, is the starter circuit in the bowls. That shit needs to be super clean, and is apparently an often overlooked part of this frustrating process lol. I have a special drill bit for it, coming from xj4ever. I hope you are able to get it running nice and show us what you did (please) :)
I've been working on cb125 rat bikes and am about to start on an old xs650. What do you think of the xs650 weight wise? Seems like a beast even to just push into and out of the shop...
Yup thats all it needs now! I just wanted to get her running so i know my wiring is correct. I can now tidy it all up and ill do the tuning and setting up later on
I like your conversion. I bought in 1980 my new Yamaha XJ 650 with vehicle identification number 577. I drove it over 10 years. I admire your upsidedown fork. But in the rear there is always the wheel with that oldfashioned drum breake. This break is a or one of the weak points on this bike. I liked the bike, but I was never a friend of this break.
Your engine is revving so high right after the start because of the new pod filters (air to fuel ratio, now running lean probably). You need to replace the jets probably and also sync the carbs :). Good luck! Sidenote, running to lean isnt good. Lean means more heat and thus more wear/risk on your cylinders.
I have pod filters and it never did that so the idle screw on the bottom of the carbs could be set wrong. Should be 1500. I agree with the jets, exhaust has been modified
I know dont worry :) i just wanted to get her running full stop. Ill tune and get her running properly a little further down the line. The main thing was to make sure my wiring was correct to the point where she runs and then finish the wiring as its just a loose spaghetti mess right now. Its all good ✌️
Jish my Friend. email me your Addy and I'll send out a couple Zippo stickers/magnets to you. My email is in the description of any of my recent videos. Cheers my Friend! And you're right...we've got a great group of watchers that always has our backs. It's always the first start after a long road that brings our motivational levels back up to 100%. I remember when I brought my 1973 Honda CB350F hone and the first time it started after 14 years. Now, it doesn't matter how long that bike sits...one blip of the key or kick starter and it's alive. Hey...What's the blue bike we see? Cheers Mate! Zip~
yo men chock ????? the engine is dead cold it wont stay runing and next time take a flat screw driver and make the spring go over the brush holder and reverse procedure when done i never tot i would ever see anyone totaly removing the spring lol

Let’s see some pictures of the bike! I have the same bike and am trying to get a list of places that set parts
Getting close. Just picked up a 650 myself and your videos are going to help alot
The moment you filled your pants 😂 congrats on getting her fired up! Keep it up
Love the channel. Make sure you add tags for "Container workshop". Man there's so many of us that look for that and it's basically so hard to get any good videos :)
8:19 you wouldn't believe how many times I've watched this lol
😆
made me lol alot to!
so did i xD

I apply solder to each seperate piece, then put them together, apply the iron and they melt together, I think its called `tinning`
yeah, choke is definitely a must at start. I too an trying to get my bike ready.
I had the same problem with my xj750. It’s was a vacuum leak. So although your carbs most likely do need to be synced, I would also check for vacuum leaks.
Yep. Its all heading in the direction though! Just working through the process
You need to go up on the jets due to pod filters and the open exhaust, it's as lean as hell at the moment
Well done Jishy, really happy for you.
Hope mine starts in a few weeks.
Cool progress jish...master carb building & tuning from now😀😀😀
I don’t like the headlight but it’s your build you’re doing a great job I just thing the classic circle headlight really brings out the classic cafe look
good on ya mate you'll be riding it in no time
Always a great moment when they fire up, nice one mate
And can I rob your dance 😂
Go for it. Will woo all the ladies
Lol! That dance. My xj650 was exactly the same after I rebuilt the carbs. Looking forward to seeing how you over come the high revs!!
Paul Evans im in the same boat at the moment how did you sort it ?
Most likely just need to wind down the mixture screws down 😁
NOT-DEAD-YET I didn’t. I ended up working away and haven’t touched it for two years.
YES!!!! Mega jish, hard work paying off man
Very nice can't wait to see it finished

Thats the plan! Just need to save as i also need to buy the YICS tool, carb balancing tool and the colourtune but ill get there in good time!

I've got the opposite problem bike won't rev.. Going to bench sync to get base platform & go from there...ying&yang. Thanks for the upload
8:18 where are you running xD
Love the dance! Happend to me with cars. 😀

Good day sir im planning to build the same motorcycle thank for the video
Followed you on Instagram now dude! Keep up the sick work man, she sounds like a beast in the making 💪👍
4 carbs... makes it interesting. I had to rejet mine with the air pods, and 4 into 1.
That's awesome man, looking for to seeing this run some more ✌🏻
Me too man! Next time i wont crap my pants as much 😂

sounds like you just need to lower the idle a bit... maybe it was over-tweaked while the carbs were off the bike.
loving your vids, got a couple of builds on myself, any prints or graphics you need give me a shout we can do the lot!
Think your idle screw needs adjusting if it has one. That shoud settle the revving to a manageable ammount and fine tune from there
Yup thats all it needs now! I just wanted to get her running so i know my wiring is correct. I can now tidy it all up and ill do the tuning and setting up later on

Just making sure you have vacuum caps on each of those carb boots right?
I do yep! Its the mixture screws that need adjusting 👍
@@jishh cool. Mine are about 2 turns out right now and runs great straight piped on my xj650

What are the air mixture screws adjusted to. I have a 750 maxim. I set them to 2.5 but still running lean
Wooow is a very good sound! Following your videos I make a restating on my XJ 900F. How I can send you some pictures to have your feed back?
Go for it!
Did you set the float heights?
Nice video 👍
So...what was it in the ignition order you got wrong???
The chicken Dance😂😂😂
Does anyone know where those headlights are from?
Cool

the engine is dead cold it wont stay runing and next time take a flat screw driver and make the spring go over the brush holder and reverse procedure when done i never tot i would ever see anyone totaly removing the spring lol
3rd :) great vid again dude keep it up
If I send a Trump2020 sticker will you post it?
Errrm. Maybe with a slight alteration 😂 i cant really say much as he isnt my president
