That always happens to me too,so I just use the smallest bead/tube that I can,and use smooth pliers to squeeze it together ,very tightly. Then,I use a crimp cover.Looks great!
As for crimp beads, I would recommend crimp tubes over crimp beads. These crimp tubes should work with the beading wire: Beadalon Silver Plated Crimp Tubes 1.3mm (75 Beads) - SKU: FCR-1215
I can not say for certain but a couple possibilities come to mind: there are various sizes of crimp beads/tubes, crimping pliers, and beading wire. Are you using the right size crimp with the right size wire with the right size pair of crimping pliers? Unfortunately there are also just some poorly manufactured crimp beads on the market which break easier then others, this is always a possibility depending upon where you purchased them.
Most crimp beads will hold their shape just fine but they are not as strong as seed beads. Also, their holes are much larger then most seed beads in relation to their overall size, so there will be some difference in how they "sit" in your crochet/beading. I have personally used crimp beads in place of seed beads before without issue, but I would recommend that you do a test section first and make sure you are happy with the results.
I would suggest purchasing a pair of crimping pliers. I am not sure why they were not recommended to you but they are an essential tool. I can not say if your jewelry will fall apart or not based upon how you are flattening the crimp beads. It is possible that they are fine but crimping pliers will most likely give you a much stronger connection.
When I first bought my jewelry supplies, I was advised to get a flat plier, round nose plier and wire cutter. Why did they not suggest a specialty crimp bead plier? I have been using a flat plier to flatten my crimp beads this entire time, which means they only do the first step that I saw you do. Is this bad? Will my jewelry fall apart without doing the step 2 that you showed with the crimp bead pliers? Thanks!
Without seeing your actual piece, it is a little hard to recommend a method. We have a number of videos showing various finishing techniques, I would suggest checking out our basic beading techniques section or, because you are using string, check out our bead weaving section. The first idea that comes to mind is to fast the threads to a closed jump ring. Hope this helps!
Hi! It's really hard to tell exactly what size beading wire and crimp beads you will need because it is not the type of bead that determines that but the hole size and how many you plan to place on a strand (the weight). A good all-purpose beading wire that works well for most applications is a 19 strand .014 or .015 wire. Here is one that I like: Beadalon Wire Standard Bright 19 Strand .015 Inch / 30Ft - SKU: XCR-69513
@d2008new For your purposes I'd say best to go with a 2x2 tube. The longer length of the bead provides more surface area to hold onto the wire when it's crimped. The 1x1 is fine for finer stringing wire or to more easily hide the crimp. Thanks~!
I’m not so great at crimping....yet. I tend to get a messy crimp when I do it, and sometimes I over crimp and the crimp tube or crimp bead breaks. I refuse to give up. This video gave me hope. Thank you!
When I use threading and I am doing mulitple strings I use a different kind of crimp bead its shown nicely in this video. PEARLY KNOTTING USING TWEEZERS. It shows a different closer about 3:40 sec into the video. Its a nice finishe and not hard to do
I am having problems with my crimping tube and crimp bead falling to pieces when trying to crimp them. I have used different brands and types. I even had them fall apart when they were gold. I dont understand what I am doing wrong. If I squeeze lighter they don't bend. What is a good brand and type that won't break apart? I would like to use them for making bracelets. Ty
Crimping can be so frustrating. In our experience it's half practice and half finding the right tools so let me tell you what's worked for us. For crimps we recommend crimp tubes over crimp beads, and we like brass crimps. Plating is fine, but a brass core is a must. Here's a model we like: beadaholique.com/products/beadsmith-crimp-tubes-2x2mm-100-pieces-silver-plated Pliers are at least as important as crimp quality, and our favorite are these Xuron 4-in-1 crimp pliers. They have a V shape instead of the U shape you often see, over the years we've noticed that tends to make a better fit for the wire and doesn't crunch the tube so much: beadaholique.com/products/xuron-4-in-1-crimping-pliers-works-on-1-2-and-3mm-crimps
Yes, after 3 or 4 tries, the crimp bead does break. After about 100 attempts at this, I've actually gotten it to fold over 3 times--a GREAT cause for celebration! I have a "Micro Crimper"--maybe it's not what I need. It's not angled like the one in the video either; and the V-notch is BARELY noticeable. VERY frustrating!
- PLEASE HELP! Can anyone tell me- How soft are crimp beads? ... I was thinking of ordering some to use in a (re-created) crochet Victorian purse/handbag. [Seed Beads being the altern.- though I'd prefer steel/bronze tube beads]. I'd be very disappointed if I ordered 1000 of these beads only to find them unusable for my project. I suppose what I'm trying to ask is ... If I use these - will they just end up bent & misshapen? [Do they hold shape if not clamped?]
Hi! Do you mean the tiniest crimp tubes or regular tiny tube beads? Different crimping pliers are sized for different crimp tubes/beads. If you can please share the size of your crimp tube, then I can hopefully help find you a crimping plier that would work.
It really has to be on beading wire for a secure hold. I have seen crimped crimp beads cut thread before and I have also seen thread pull out of crimp beads.
We were using Beading Wire. You can get the supplies featured in this video on Beadaholique . com's website. The links for the supplies in this video are located in the video description underneath this video.

It may simply be a matter of not crimping hard enough. Give it an extra little squeeze once you’ve done the second crimp. Chain nose pliers are great with these.
@@judittoth4527 I hope that helps! Don't get too discouraged when working with crimps, they're one of the trickiest things to get right consistently and we've found that what works best is a little different for each crafter. Hopefully this points you in the right direction.
i am new at this and have been watching a few videos on the subject. what pops into my mind each time the final step is taken -- cutting off the excess wire -- what if the wire works its way up and between the beads and sticks someone in the neck?
qattah Beading wire is very soft and flexible. If your beads are pulled together snug enough (but not tight), then the wire really should not poke out. +ho linda Crimping pliers are really essential to get a good tight crimp on a crimp bead. They have the special notches needed to properly bend and form the metal.
First thing I'd check is the fit of the crimps. What size crimps have you tried? For a small wire like that I'd recommend Beadlon size #1 tubes like the ones in this pack: beadaholique.com/products/beadalon-silver-plated-crimp-tubes-4-sizes-mix-600-beads-total
Yes, the bead opens up to its original shape :( I think I got it to work yesterday, after watching the video--I don't think I was doing the initial crimp hard enough so that the indentation was deep enough.
Can you show me how to attach a feather and easiest way I have beautiful feathers I want to add to my necklace n I just want as a pendant if all possible please do a video for that too :)
Sorry we should have explained that a bit better in this older video. The same technique will work for both crimp tubes and crimp beads. Personally we prefer crimp tubes because we find them more reliable, and while crimp beads can look more like beads when they're finished it's often best to cover any kind of crimp with a crimp bead cover like this to fully blend it into your piece: beadaholique.com/products/crimp-bead-covers-clamshell-4mm-50-pieces-gold-plated

There are several reasons why your crimp bead might not be holding. It could be that the crimping pliers are not the appropriate size for the crimp bead size you have, or that the crimp bead is not the right size for the beading wire. It could also be that the crimp bead is not being squeezed hard enough or that it is not aligned properly in the pliers. If you are using crimp beads, I would suggest trying crimp tubes instead. I personally find crimp tubes way easier to use.
Thank you. I was using the wrong size crimp tube (I didn't know they came in different sizes). Now I have to close the crimp cover without leaving marks on the bead...
Sarah Smith Agreed. I use my crimping tool just as shown but often times, with crimp tubes, the 1st step flattens it correctly but the 2nd step opens it back up and breaks the tube rather than folding it in half.

We do not recommend for string or thread as they may cut the stringing material. Thanks for watching!
