Ilmarinen is a Finnish pagan deity (i'm Finnish). I wonder how Robert E. Howard heard about him

According to Burke and Louinet, REH read the Edda and other Nordic legends and stories. I will upload what they had to say about REH, Bran Mak Morn and the Picts.

Interesting. Ilmarinen is the famous blacksmith of _Kalevala_ (the finnish epic). In the story he is merely a mortal hero, not a god, but its been speculated this was a choice by Lönrot, who collected and edited the stories of Kalevala into a book form.

I've uploaded Burke and Louinet, will be available in a few minutes.
In "Creating an age undreamed of" by REH, they talk about where he got his ideas from as well. Anyway, here's the link:

@@aidenfrost7008 funny.... because YOU are definitely the more upset of the two comments.
God forbid someone makes an extremely obviously, pretty inarguable observation.

@@aidenfrost7008 are you a child? I'm not being rude, you just sound that way, so I'll break this down as simply as I can-
A lot of older stories have racist themes because people believed "scientific" theories that were completely wrong, and those ideas were investigated on the very basis that white Europeans could and would not see themselves as being connected on a biological level with people they considered... well, "uncultured" would be a nicer word. So African, Asian, Hispanic and even people considered "white" now (like Italians) were thought of almost as different species than Western Europeans.
      That is a FACT.
This story included those outdated and incorrect racially based theories immediately and as main point of the storyline.
      That is also a FACT.
Someone mentioned it in a comment.
      You got pissy.
That's it. That's all that happened.
Can you explain in actual English where this tantrum is coming from? What exactly your problem with the original comment is?
Why is a random person stating the obvious pisses you off so very much?

When someone humiliated you for your rampaging insecurity suddenly you’re just “trolling.” Lol What a bitch.

    Well!
That opening dialogue about the “Aryan race” was very wince inducing and uncomfortable.
A product of it’s time, I suppose - but I’m going to cut it short and check out.
    On to something more agreeable.

@@chrisnorman9980 well there are physical differences between races, so it's only natural that people were interested in studying them back in the day... You do know races exist, right? And have their own unique traits, good or bad? Does race based medicine also scare you? The modern science, that saved a generation of modern black men from heart failure by making adjustments for race-based genetic traits in heart medicine? Studying races is actually really fun, it goes hand in hand with studying culture, art, history and even psychology.
