I learned how to route actual gear from using reason back in the day. I’m not a big fan now because it’s chasing these daws when it should just do it’s thing as a virtual studio. Rebirth is and was sick, figure is sick. Idk i feel like other saws ruined the vision of Propellerhead

I think the browser is actually the most significant upgrade in Reason 13. They went back and tagged their 50'000 stock patches, which, let's be honest, none of us will go through in our lifetimes, but it massively improved searching for things to get inspired with, or even flat out use.
Ripley is pretty cool. Yeah sure it's yet another delay-reverb-shimmer-saturation-distortion-multifx but it's very usable and fun.
Polytone is... eh. It's a generic subtractive synth and it's fine at what it's trying to do. One really good thing is the A/B thing, because you get to not just mix the two sounds (i.e. audio volume crossfade), but also blend them (i.e. actual knobs morphing between the two patches). Still, just another retro-ish synth, i'd call it Subtractor 2.0. It's fine as the Default Synth for putting ideas down.
Stereo Tool is neat (sounds really good! better than the old stock stereo imager), the other 2 are just convenience for what you could already do, but they have some neat tricks too.
Other than that they've rearranged menus and made the sequencer a bit more like Studio One, but it's still 5+ years behind competition.

Spectralayers is so much better than RX11. Version 11 really is a quality of life update (the whole ai thing is marketing of course), but thats not to say version 11 isnt stellar.
Spectralayers has given everything that users have asked for in 10 and 11 expands upon this for the workflow. Its hard though when you have a marketing / executive team that is probably requiring devs to hype up features unnecessarily. What they dont realize is that a lot of times this takes away from the success of the product as you are setting expectations higher than what is required to appreciate the awesomeness of the software.

    • @kaislate
      @kaislate 7 днів тому +1

Not being able to drag a clip from Ableton directly into Spectralayers though is a hindrance. This is where sometimes it is just easier to use RX11 de-click (which I think is the best product in RX11 and is the one module that does better than competitors anyway)
If you are just trying to get vocals separated I would still recommend UVR as it is FREE. The amount of work (and money of buying the software) isn't really worth it if that is your only use case. Processing on the vocal afterward probably would hide any difference you would get anyway. (Depends on genre of course)

also I really do sometimes get better and faster results with Ableton's complex pro, mostly when VU can't figure out the timing properly and those manual sync point are not doing anything remotely close to what I'm expecting them to, and I've also found that VU can often have far worse stretch artifacts than complex pro
in my experience VU only works well when vocals just need a bit of a squeeze to get them perfectly aligned, and unfortunately I often need it to do quite a bit more than that

Don’t think there’s been an even number update that was worth it since the introduction of rack extensions and that was a .5 update from 6. Stuck with 10 till I got 12 at a discount and going to stick with that for as long as I can. I still have a lot of stuff I made with Pro Tools and Reason via rewire and the new method with reason as a plug-in within other DAWs can be a complete chore to deal with when it comes to automating instrument parameters.

I won't upgrade Reason VST for $200. Nothing significant is being added for users no longer using the DAW, the new devices for the VST can all be replaced with stock devices from other DAWs. The modulation and routing offered by using the cables is obsolete. Reason is trying to milk customers with this upgrade or by joining a subscription model. For the price, I would recommend getting any other DAW that cares for their users, even if it is as a glorified VST plugin. I think if you offered reason devices only as VST more people would use Object or Parsec. I.E. The 20% discount currently for old users is a slap in the face. Reason needs to get things together if they want to remain somewhat relevant. Their announcement video currently has only 8k views and 215 likes vs 150 dislikes from 202k subscribers is looking bad.

Then dont upgrade then, they uave to make money like every other brand, do they get it right all the time no, are they the best brand out there, no. There Ableton system for 11 was good with lite $99, Standerd $300, Suite $500 then with 12 it was $500 standard, or $20 a month subscription. That lost them a huge amount of long turm users who never come back, there was so much hate and it a decision made bybthere new CEO. I dont think the rack system with cables is obviously, but there is very good FREE VCV Rack which has the exact same moduler wire system. I love Reason and I want to support there brand but they are not perfect at all but still do enough right for Me to stick but saying that I went from Reason 4 to 12, used 4 for over 10 years. An analog synth like hundreds of others without any creative approach, tools which are available with the same functions (and even more functions) for free. An overhaul of the sequencer without true improvement of workflow. And all this for 199€/USD to upgrade? Thanks, but no thanks. It may be useful for people who need Silicon support but for those who don't need this compatibility upgrade, it's not worth the price tag in my opinion.

@@HOLLASOUNDS I own and upgrade Reason since R5 and I'm familiar with their intermediate updates. However, the intermediate updates are mostly minor. As said, if someone is satisfied with this upgrade and willing to pay 200 Bucks for it, here you go.. For me it's not worth the money for different reasons. I didn't use Reason since R11 anymore due to its aged sequencer and due to the fact that I can use the devices as VST Rack in other DAWS - I upgraded to R12 mainly for the high resolution GUI (resulting in a higher readability of the rack). But R13 does not offer anything interesting for me. Only stuff I have tons of it already. Propellerhead once brought really innovative devices into Reason but R13 isn't like that at all (and R11 and R12 didn't either to be honest). The innovative devices are sold separately as RE and I am sure Reason Studios will pursuit this way in the future (the bare minimum within an upgrade to justify the price and sell the interesting stuff as RE for almost the same price tag). In the end, DAWs are always a matter of taste and what workflow a musician prefers.

Is there a company that has let down its customers and users more than Reason studios ? It's been more than 10 years of disappointing upgrades.

Due to its lack of essential MIDI re-routing capabilities in 13. Reason goes on my shit list. Canceling subscriptions as of today.

Remember trying to use Reason around 7 or 8 but all the devices have way too many features, and the ‘hardware’ approach is clunky af on a computer. I think they’d need something like their own Push controller.

Reason Rack needs to include all of the extensions for a single price... Or it needs to be FREE and the extensions should cost less individually.
The kontakt model doesn't work at scale. Scoring artists use sample libraries and rarely utilize sound design at a level that rack extensions provide. Scoring artists are the target market with the current pricing structure. This in turn doesnt work.
The weird thing is that if i am able to recognize this what is going on over at Reason. They have never been great at marketing rack extensions as i think there is someone over there that thinks if they acknowledge that other DAWs exist too much that it might somehow hurt them.

Do you really really can't think of any use case for a gamepad as a music controller? 🤔 You either lying or your music concept is very limited
