I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bearded gorilla except on planet of the apes but that is such a wonderful picture of the baby and the Mom. Looks like the baby sleeping. I use to only watch lions and elephants now I’ve added gorillas. I lovegorillas. Jamani needs to get with Kiembi so they can play together.😂😂😂❤❤❤
Thanks for the video, Larry! I was at the zoo last weekend…most of the gorillas were in the indoor habitat and were just relaxing or sleeping. Sue was initially in a covered hammock with the baby laying close to her…couldn’t see much because it was a little dark there. She eventually moved around, but as you said, she had her back to the visitors most of the time. We managed a few glimpses of the baby, who is adorable. Hope to see more of her as she gets bigger. 😊😊
It is like looking into the past and seeing the evolution of humans. The mother/baby interaction is so fascinating because it shows how closely we are related.

Beautiful video Larry of another new mother who is visibly caring for her beautiful little girl. And what a cutie that 4-year-old Jamina! Seems to me also a very interesting troop with 2 separated silverbacks there each with their own harem. Saw a video a year ago in which both silverbacks alternately hit and kick the intermediate doors, reacting to each other. was a very nice video too

Magnificent❣️ Mama definitely knew you were watching. 🤨 It’s great that they were only out in the exhibit for a few hours and that the zoo lets them have plenty of private time. Baby looks very healthy and interested in her surroundings in the first part of the video, and then very relaxed sleeping in Mama’s arms. I think she was having tiny milk-drinking dreams. 🥰 Jamani is adorable - eager to play with baby Sis, just like Kayembe❣️Thanks so much for taking us along on your trip to Columbus, Larry - did you see Sully and Kwame as well? 🤩
Thanks , Sully and Kwame were huddled in a hammock on the inside. It was rather dark and very busy - so I’m glad I caught Sue while outside. I made a trip down to Columbus before Sue had her baby- I got nothing from that trip. Lighting is so important.
Sue looks tired. Baby Sue looked like she was sleeping most of the time. When my daughter and I visited Woodland Park Zoo in 1997, a couple of noisy teenage girls upset the gorilla. The gorilla responded by charging over and pounding on the glass. The girls screamed and left. The gorilla gave us a, "you can stay," look. We were talking quietly.

Normal?…, there are many zoos in North America with small numbers in a troop. The gorilla SSP - (Species Survival Plan team) along with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums decide how many gorillas are in each zoo and which gorillas live where based on genetic and social considerations to ensure a healthy/manageable population exists in zoos.
Thank you Larry for your wonderful videos. It appears that the gorillas are aware that they are on display for us. I feel sorry for them but glad that .they are safe, well cared for and loved.

They were off exhibit in the beginning - until July 8th or 9th. Today they could only be seen for 3 hours.
