    Update: I say in the video that it can only go in one way, but I somehow managed to install a bulb into the back end of the socket (but not the bulb in this video). In other words, the receptacle is designed in such a way where it's two-sided, but it's not supposed to be. Plugging into the wrong side can possibly damage the prongs on the bulb, which is almost what happened to me (when changing this bulb yet again the other day). So just pay attention to the proper orientation at about 3:03 in the video and you should be fine.

    Love how LEDS are touted for 10-15 years.... Then we are always lucky to get two years out of them for 10 times the price lol.
    Ty for thr video

    • @mattmgarza
      @mattmgarza  9 місяців тому

      yes, I have replaced these at least once since this video, if not twice....actually I believe the latest one is the first LED bulb used in the car, but I certainly know what you mean with the LEDs dying off far before their touted lifespan, we've had plenty of household LED bulbs go out

    Hey so this is a great video but if you want to make it a little easier to get the the bulb there is actually a panel on the wheel well you just pull the tab out and it gives you easier access to the bulb

      I hope I can see where both of you are talking about, because I was driving to teach a fitness class today and don't you know my idiot light came on for my light in my 2020 Kona. So the first thing I did was come to UA-cam to see if I can find a video to fix it myself. I'm hoping that I can figure out what you're both saying because unfortunately my dad just passed in June and now I'm left to figure this out on my own

    • @thomasmaniscalco6934
      @thomasmaniscalco6934 10 місяців тому +1

      @@pennydelahanty4724 first I am sorry for your loss and second if you go to the front driver side or passenger side tire, squat down in front of the tire and look in the space that is made by the gap between the wheel and the fender liner. Then there should be a little panel that will either have a symbol of the head light or it will just be a panel. You should just be able to pull it out. Then you have easier access to pull the light out and put it back in

    Thanks so much. I have had the hardest time finding people to change the lightbulb. Autozone and O'Reilly both wouldn't and Hyundai was booking weeks out. Thanks to you, I did it myself!

      You're welcome! You will see others mentioning the little opening in the wheel well that you can use, that works fine but I like this method better, it's easier on the wrists in my opinion.

  • @mattmgarza
    @mattmgarza  Рік тому

    I recently had to change the bulb again and did it the way some of you were describing---the opening by the wheel. That way works pretty well, but I prefer the way that I did it in this video. Going by the tire works but it required me to put my hands in an awkward angle---even more than with the method in the video.

      Also, I had been putting this off for weeks until someone could help me. I finally realized I was an adult and probably capable of doing it by myself. This was the first car “repair” I’ve ever done myself, so thank you also for that boost in confidence.

      @@joeymurphy101 I once considered this a "big repair" as well and since then I've rebuilt an engine, replaced a transmission, and done about three hundred or more smaller jobs such as alternators, starters, radiators, brakes, suspension, etc.

    Yeah wear the glove. The oil from your fingers creates an area on the bulb that refracts the light and creates a concentrated 'hot spot' on the bulb's surface that will destroy the bulb prematurely by melting the glass at that location. I've seen car lights as well as those 300 / 500 watt halogen floodlight 'tubes' (usually yard lights) fail in a few minutes, and upon inspection found a blistered and cracked surface surrounded by a big fingerprint. So yeah.... keep it oil free.

    Thanks! Very helpful. Next time, it'll take 15 minutes, 1st, 3 hrs. On drivet's side very easy to confuse lo beam & hi beam. They both have round cover. Use wheel well access hole, no confusion plus more room for hands to work. Also, very easy to plug bulb in...backwards. notch on bulb MUST align with notch on socket. And FYI, owner's manual says disconnect negative battery cable..ENJOY!

    Your fingers and alignment skills are far better than mine. I got it done but ended up opening the wheel well door for which I now have to get a new retainer clip. I found it to be a real pain. Notiing came of easy and was a pain to put in place. My Toyota RAV4 was a piece of cake compared to my Kona.

      I appreciate your compliments. I guess I take for granted my small hands and wrists, and I have a pretty good amount of experience with cars. I am glad you were able to get the flap on the wheel well to work---I tried that method but found it put my hands/wrists in an awkward angle, I liked the method in this video better. We've been having problems with these lights burning out quickly. We're on our third bulb on each side now.

    Thank God for this video lmao
    Even with it I had to stop, clench my fists and scream in frustration about 16 times trying to get them both out, get both the new bulbs slotted into the carriers because the wires are ridiculously short and you cant both hold the bulb and the carrier and also see WTF youre doing,and then blindly struggle in a hole to get the thing keyed back into the fixture and locked in again......but at least I knew where the fucking bulb was and how it came out
    Because, again--- You can't see shit
    And I'm mechanically inclined, more than just inclined- I changed the head on my 2010 tacoma over the summer in my driveway.....Jesus fuck new cars suck to work on....I long for the days of an 87 K5 Blazer where you could literally sit on the fender and work on everything lol

      So you did the low beam and the high beam. I guess I only showed the low beam in this video. I have small hands and forearms which really helps out----so I may have made it look deceptively easy, lol. That's awesome about changing the cylinder head. I've done similar work but I don't do it for my mobile auto repair service because it's just too much work to do at someone's home. I stick to brakes, suspension, alternators, starters, etc.

      gently turn it counterclockwise (from the perspective of someone behind the steering wheel) and gently pull it as you are doing so. After turning about 1/8th of a turn or less, it should come out. You may need to turn it one way then the other in a very quick manner as you are pulling....shimmying or wiggling it out basically.
