This was really fun to see how your ranking changed! You have definitely made me excited to read “pride and prejudice” that’s for sure. :) I have avoided watching the movie adaptations because I really want to read the books first. Honestly, I think I saw Emma back when it came out, but I don’t really remember anything about it excep Gwyneth Paltrow and everyone raving about how good her British accent was lol. I’m not sure when I will get to my first Jane Austen novel, but I am really excited to get to her books eventually. :-)

I'm a huge fan of most of the adaptations and funny enough, one of the topics we are currently discussing in the course is all of the commercialization of Jane and how that may or may not color people's reading and interpretation of the novels. Super interesting. I hope you get to read Austen soon and love it!

Very cool idea to compare your teenage reading tastes to your current tastes!! Although I have never read a word of Jane Austen, a few years back I did a similar idea where I compared my teenaged ranking of all Stephen R Donaldson's fantasy novels to my ranking after re-reading at the age of ~ 55. The rankings were nearly flipped after a 40 year gap between readings, much like Sense & Sensibility tanked over the years in your rankings! - Let's see how you feel after a critical study in your course. YES I love that idea for book annotation, and the only book I have seen done that way was for the Bible. You know, these days you could convievably self publish your own editions of these open source novels with your own studied annotations and notes. Especially after your class. You can call it _Pride & Prejudice - Universally Acknowledged Truth Edition_ . HAHA Thank you for the video.

I find it so amazing how our thoughts and tastes on things change throughout the years. And I’m definitely stealing that book title so thanks for the suggestion! 😂

Fun exercise! I know P&P & Persuasion have always been my favorites, but like you, NA has gone up in my estimation every time I read it, especially after reading some of the books & authors (Burney, Radcliffe, Edgeworth) mentioned in the book. Emma is still my least favorite, and I have a soft spot for young Fanny Price. I have the Belknap Press annotated editions of Austen's works--they're large, coffee-table-sized books with annotations & illustrations in the sidebars. They are not as detailed as Shepard's, but they are lovely and each novel has a different editor/annotator. Hope your class has been enlightening and maybe you'll be able to share some insights for Jane Austen July!

Oooohhhhhh I didn’t even think about Jane Austen July! That times up perfectly with the end of my course! Those Belknap editions sound amazing and one can’t have too many editions of Jane Austen so I may have to check them out. 😊
