Another gem from my childhood days. Damn, Mickey Thomas could wail. I miss the '80s.
Mickey and Slick are truly talented singers. The 80s were definitely a time to remember. No Facebook. No twirking. No Twitter. No iPhones or iPads. No swearing. No people getting offended easily. No COVID and no shootings. It’s too bad that music like this isn’t made anymore. Good job Mick and Slick. 👍
I agree.
Except for the shootings?
That’s always been here.
@@creoleviking8433 But not in school mass shootings.
❤
Slick still rocking in her 80s. I always had a “thing” for her since Airplane. Great voice.
There was no swearing in the 1980s? Are you fuckin nuts? Even Jefferson Starship used the F word on their 1981 album. Twice.
What an amazing voice Mickey Thomas has!! He belts out those highly notes like it's nobody's business!!
I know , Mickey Thomas has been called " Rock n Roll's best kept secret " !!! So is Steve Perry for that matter !!! Mickey and Steve , two of the best voices in rock !!!
As I have grown older and consider the truly great bands of the rock era-clearly Jefferson Airplane/Starship is one that deserves that honor. They have gone through many line-up changes but for decades remained relevant. The totality of their catalog and influence is immense.
What a great song!! damn these guys and grace knew how to make great music. and slogan pretty good too lol. Mick and slick lol.
Mickey Thomas has some SERIOUS pipes!!
I love the Marty Balin years, but Mickey is a pretty phenomenal singer. 🏁
Many people make fun of this Starship lineup and their music but there's no deny it's the BEST Starship lineup! So colorful and just really listen closely to the music!
This is Jefferson Starship, not Starship. There's a pretty big difference.
Correct! However, the music from this album and the key players are pretty much the same through the No Protection album...
Don Baldwin was a kick ass drummer, when he wasn't kickin the lead singers ass......
@@jdshemp oooooh
Never cared for other's opinions. I listen to what feeds my soul and that is all that matters to me.
The wonderful thing about UA-cam is you no longer have to wait for your favorite music video to play on MTV. I grew up without cable TV, so this is awesome!
I remember watching the music video show “Night Tracks” on WTBS starting in late 1983, and that got me through until I got MTV in early 1985. But there were so many obscure videos I thought I’d never see again, and I’m very thankful that now we can find almost every music video ever made on here!
There was Hit video usa every Saturday starting at 10 pm till 6 am,very similar to MTV, didn't have cable either so it was the next best thing
YES, so grateful for that. The first I got to see cable was when I came home for my first Christmas break from college.
Craig Chaquico was still so young. Always loved his guitar playing.
He always looked like he was having so much fun whenever I see him play guitar.
And Craig is a HIGHLY successful smooth jazz musician, as well, in 2021.
Yeah and he won the Grammy in 1998 and 1999 for Jazz Guitarist of the year . . For the albums " Acoustic Highway " and "Acoustic Planet " playing a 12 string . Both are great albums .
Dude can sing his butt off. About like Steve Perry with that high tenor. And when they sing "Jane", wow. Love that song, too.
Mickey Thomas was one Monster singer.
I saw the band on the tour. Paul had left by then. Some fans down in front had "Mick & Slick '88" signs, which Grace acknowledged from the stage.
Man what a classic! I still have this album! In cassette form of course:-)
Gee, who could have guessed this was an 80's videos with all the permed hair?
MICKY WAS THE DEAL, LOVE HIS RANGE!
he still can belt it...amazing talent! one of THE best
CAPS LOCK BUTTON.. tard...
One of the best rock tenor singers. Period
He has one of the best voices in rock history
He was no Marty Balin.
Mickey Thomas man his voice is out of this universe!!!!
A song that unfortunately is just as valid today. Thanks Starship for being real with all the music. LOVE.
The lyrics are still meaningful even today!
Only , the real protestors should be CONSERVATIVE AMERICAN CITIZENS .
.WE Have HAD ENOUGH OF OUR CONSTITUTION BEING TWISTED FOR POLITICAL , SOCIAL , AND CULTURAL " TRENDS "
Love this era, top song!
Mick's voice is awesome
Slick's voice is better
Not by a long shot! Mickey is the man!
@@flufferoftheapocalypse4162 Sorry but Mickey is much more talented. I like Grace Slick but he's the better singer.
Both are awesome and they complimented each other perfectly. No need to takes sides people.
Now I know why I'm so weird. I grew up in the 80's watching videos like this.
Pretty sure you are just a weirdo and it has nothing to do with the timeframe you grew up in.
@@krakenwoodfloorservicemcma5975 Nope! It was the video.
Amen brother. Amen.
I had forgot how good this song was.
when songs had style and substance!
This is when Paul Kantner said "I've had enough of this BS".
When America was united.
When labelling was considered a bad thing. Now there are 20 times more labels, and everyone has to be given one. Terrible.
@@JeffOnTheRoads Yup. The rise in identitarianism is dividing and killing us.
Well maybe not united. But certainly more frikken fun.
But it wasn't really, only superficially. We're fighting for hearts and if we don't recognize Jesus, honestly we'll never recognize one another. President Trump didn't create the divide he revealed it.
Yes, everyone stuck together....with Aqua Net.
Bill Graham and The Residents in the crowd.
Lots of cameos. Bill Graham and Timothy Leary!
@@susangould8206 G Gordon Liddy w/ Timothy Leary.
gracy and mick adjoin impeccably on this track. . . .and holy jumpin' jeezuz can that lad ever sing ! ! ! !
The voice of "Fooled around and fell in love", by Elvin Bishop
Grace Slick looks like Boy George in this video. I love the 80s!
jamaral81 Craig looks like Eddie Van Halen
It is a boy.
Craig looks like Nigel Tufnel
I have to wonder if some music producer purposely picked those for the wardrobe. The idea being, people changing the channels are likely to stick around if they think they see somebody familiar.
What a Voice! Mickey, so much better than Grace Slick. She can't hit the high notes. That's why Mickey sings Jane, Layin it on the line, Find your way back! That is my favorite.....All these songs were much better than hers.........................
Man, the hair!
Still a bad ass jam after 35 years!!!
This guy is 71 now and can still hit every note
😮
Best concert I ever seen .No substitute for music of the 80s
Ironic, is it not? Have y'all seen the news lately? Political campaigns haven't changed at all since the 80s or even before. This super cool Jefferson Starship song & video says it all. I therefore challenge all who read this to forward this (video) to every (all 23 of them) 2016 Presidential candidate's volunteers, canvassers, call centers, public relations workers, campaign managers, and of course, candidates themselves. Let's return power to the people, and TAKE BACK power from special interests groups, lobbyists & corruption!
When I try to explain the history of Bay Area San Francisco politics to people that aren’t from here I show them this video.
Good music, vaudeville, cocaine and Willie Brown.
Great song. But I can't get passed those 80's hairstyles!
Could we have Mick and Slick as our new candidates for 2020??...Pleaase!!!
It's so cool to see celebrities, from San Francisco, in this music video.
Willie Brown Jr., The Residents, Pat Paulson...
Timothy Leary & Bill Graham too. 😅
Kamala must be down low in the picture !
Staying at a Orlando resort and heard this song poolside today and thought “that must be Mickey-grace and jefferson starship.”
Mick & Slick would be a huge improvement over Mr. Magooo and The Empress VP we have now running the store.
Willie Brown Jr. rocks! Mick and Slick in 2024! Really. They couldn't do any worse. Later!
This song is like an old lost friend! love it!
Mick and Slick in 2020
LOL
Hell no
Even Paul Kantner wanted nothing to do with the Starship after this.
The Cabinet would probably be The Residents.
Yes!
Mickey Thomas for president!!!
If you watch between 3:20 to 3:40, you will see Mickey in his military uniform in front of the drums. However, if you look carefully, there is no sight of drummer Donny Baldwin. Lol lol where is he?
Yeah no shit! Show the drummer working it!
I'm voting for this ticket in 2024. Yes indeed!
Bring back BIG HAIR !!! Rock on !
Timothy Leary and G Gordon Liddy are both on the video at the same time, wow
Grace is so wonderful. I love how she and Mickey sing together
Love this song, always have... because it rocked plain and simple. The video was pretty cheesy and they would never rock like this again, even when they did "Rock myself to sleep" as good as it ever got.
I like modern times much better.
It's obviously done with some intentional silliness.
I keep this record as a treasure
Mickey + Grace = 2 awesome singers!!!! Fu%# modern day "singers"
Well said.
So many songs at the time about the Cold War...
Sounds a bit like 'Turn Up The Radio' by Autograph. Luckily JS released this first ;)
Ill take mic and slick over trump
Anybody see the Residents at all in this video?
And here I thought I was hallucinating them.
starship ROCKS
This 80's cheese has aged so well
I'd vote for them if they ran in 2024. Even their fictional personas would do better than the idiots who are actually running...
@2:27, that's US involvement in Ukraine! Stop the war! Negotiate now! USA out! I love Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship and Starship (ok, last one a little less so).
Summer 1984. Going on to the 10th grade. Great times. The Olympics were in July. The unfortunate mass shooting at the McDonald's in San Ysidro. Democratic National Convention in San Francisco. MTV being great then. The years went by too fast!
this is a great fucking rock song! it epitomizes Jefferson starships harder edged sound of the early 80s!!!!!
The drums/beat, they hit this out of the park...5 platinum stars.. Just listen.
Worth watching for the hair alone -- especially Grace Slick's.
lol can't miss those big 80s bouffant hairdos...
Imadonny™ is my preferred style, cologne, and physical fitness luxury brand.
Which also causes a drummer to beat the hell out of the lead singer!!!
@@michaelwyatt1088 That aspect removed. That was tragic.
Donny Baldwin ---> Certified monster on a drum kit!!!!
Kamala Harris dancing with Willie Brown at 1:36 ?
3:54.... Shit thats Pat Paulsen! ..lol never noticed that before.
Good song
What great vocals and song 👍
The chorus is basically just find your way back rehashed
Why are theresidents in this video? That's Awesome!
+Isaiah Harrell
they rule over S.F. with Willie Brown and Jeff Airplane et al
Ahh
an under-rated band
Nice to see Kamala Harris' boyfriend in the video.
We need to revive this for the 2018 US elections.
where are the residents in this?
you wouldn't believe the cameos....
Kamala’s career springboard at the beginning. 😂🤣😂
Kuntmala was fkn a judge to move up as attorney general
@@ralphtom3431 Yup...she literally fucked her way to the top.
Mick and Slick might be much better than president veg head and the vice president street walker!
I know right.
HOLY SHIT, THE RESIDENTS.
haha, yes they are making a cameo appearance :P
For a SF Bay area native this has all the coolest cameos. Dr Gonzo!!!!!! If you never saw him, google him
great to see pat paulson at 3:55
I thought that was him ! I had never noticed him in it before .....i was like wait... what.....lol
Great Political Video...I used to crank this song on cassette.
Can someone explain why the Residents are in this video?
Ah, so I wasn’t seeing things either. I was like, what is The Residents doing here?
"I'm a donny" ... yes, I was alive at the time, but don't know what it might have meant at the time... other than a prophecy, maybe? Someone clue me in? And... rock on. and on. and ON!
What a classic I never get tired of this hey bro I think your guitar is on fire
Jeez , 35 years ago , R. I. P Paul
The Residents, wtf?
Forgot Pat Paulson was in this video.
Awesome band ❤🎉🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊
Not a bad song... Remember it well with the cameos of Phil Graham, Timothy Leary, G. Gordon Liddy and Pat Paulson.
Don't forget Willie Brown, he was the Mayor of San Francisco.
And the residents...
My soul-dad directed this video. He plays Castro in the park, lol
@@dtemplar21977 Kamala Harris' sugar daddy.
Great piece of power pop. Man, there is…a lot…going on in this video. What’s this “Imadonny” thing? Why is Grace dressed like a witch? It’s like we’re hearing all the band’s deepest inside jokes at once. Then - boom - Willie Brown, G Gordon Liddy, Timothy Leary, and slew of other people wholly unknown to anyone under 50 start showing up. I’d love to know the story of how all this got put together.
Looks like Jimmy Fallon doing one of his music videos :)
Mick and Slick. That rhymed. Good concept on the music video.
the more things change.the more they stay the same
I wanted that Carvin gear sooooo bad!
Jefferson Starship during their Glam Metal days.
I couldn't believe the story about the Drummer all hopped up and beating Mickey so bad that the Man has steel plates in his jaws.. Mick forgave the DUNG PILE, BUT he said he'd probably never see or speak to the phyco again!!!
Mickey was sensational but apparently in the later years Grace was reduced to a backup singer?
yup g. gordan liddy at 2:05 lol
looks like John Delorean in there with G. Gordon Kiddy don't it
+Red Clark Liddy
It’s Dr. Timothy Leary, “Turn on, tune in, drop out"
So, is that young Kamala Harris dancing with Willie Brown in various parts of the video?
Woodstock Rockers!
