I know it's been a minute since this video but replacing my waterpump now and was looking to find out which of the coolant hoses needs a gasket. I vaguely remember someone saying to put a gasket inside the radiator to water pump hose.

Hey Neil, yeah like Mark Thayne mentioned there is an aluminum pump assembly by a company called Graffi (or some similar name). *Main question*: Have you seen these/ any experience with them? If so would you recommend the aluminum over the plastic housing? Thanks for the video, also!

I put in the aluminum pump assembly a few months back.. I thought it came w the hardware but it didn't. Instead of waiting for the stealership to open I reused the old bolts and broke one off in the block.. I changed mine without removing the intake manifold, I just took off the throttle body and did a ton of blind work. When the gasket goes I'll extract the bolt out, but it's been a few months and no leaks.. I should've taken off the intake manifold and cleaned the valves and injectors while I was doing it. Looks like there is soooo much room for activities with all of that off the front side 🙄🤛

HeD_sh0tz__ Yeah, you can get to a lot with that manifold off. And honestly, it’s a pretty quick job to pull it off after doing it once before. Eek, yeah those bolts don’t need much tightening. I think those one are like 9 Nm if I remember correctly. Yeah, hopefully no leaks for a long time.

You pull the bottom bolt off of the balance shaft and the cover go counter clock wise and remove so the belt slpis right on

@@carwerks101 takes 5 minutes remove the 12mm bolt and washer on the balance shaft instead of messing around for 15 minutes trying to work the belt on the water pump gear ! LOL and some people will damage the belt using a pick ,screw driver, etc... prying up on the new belt or having someone crank the crank shaft wjile you try to work the belt on.

To pu the belt on the pump without stressing it: it's easy enough to bolt off the driving pulley, the small one below.....Hold the crank with the 24 mm and turn the pulley bolt CLOCKWISE to loosen, hth.

I have a p1927 code that says auxiliary water pump relay. Do you know which relay controls the auxiliary water pump ?

I have never done one but looking at the repair manual it seems like it may be for just fitting it, must make it easier to assemble, they say the same thing for the high pressure pump but it doesnt matter

If water pump lick is it wise to replace the whole water pump of just the seal or o ring

Correct. A dealership caveman tech stripped my waterpump bolt threads in the block and caused me a lot of extra work doing the job again with HeliCoil to repair the damages. PITA.

I would have put the aftermarket, all aluminum water pump from ECS Tuning on it (lifetime). Did that with my son's Jetta GLI. VW should park this plastic piece of shit units. One small oil leak on it, and the plastic cracks. Aluminum cheaper than OEM by couple bucks as well

@@ernestoruesta9446 absolutely, but first check dealer for recall or extended warranty. There was a class action settlement that just got awarded in May, I'm still waiting on my money. I did myself so i could do the aluminum one, but dealer may cover under extended warranty of your year and model are part of it

@@mronemanband1 VW got sued for these pumps sometimes not lasting even 45k miles and they redesigned the pumps in 2016. The redesigned, still plastic, pumps should now last about 100k miles. For what it's worth, aluminum pumps can go 150k or more.
