Regarding the battery in the boot floor. A lot of modern cars come with AGM batteries (best battery for start/stop cars), but AGM batteries don't like high heat so the manufacturer put it into the boot floor. It also help save space under the bonnet.
There's a positive and negative connection points under the bonnet to connect jump leads.
I'm a driving instructor and been running an Astra K for 2.5 years, putting on about 35k miles per year, brilliant car, super reliable.

Question for you Mizanoor. What engine does the astra you are running as a istruction car have? I am considering buing a 1.4 turbo with 150bhp and am trying to find information on reliability where ever I can :)
@@nooaparkatti4571 hi, I have the 150hp 16 plate astra k. Regarding reliability I will give it a 5/5, the only issue I have had with it in the 2.5+ years and 70k + miles, is the battery once when I first owned it, but I think that was caused by the car sitting in the dealership for weeks before I brought it (plus the battery was tiny as it wasn't start/stop). Personally it's an awesome car to drive (considering it's main use is for tuition), my students love it (they miss the car as I have a courtesy car at the moment as the astra is in for a repair after an accident). The fuel economy is OK but I don't help by the way I drive 😅
I service the car myself and it hasn't had any issues with its mot (except for wear and tear items and damage to the tyres caused by my students. If I had to buy it again I would, the only thing I would like the car to have is start/stop technology.

The astra seems like a very compelling option for a family car as it seems very nicely equipped (mainly for my mother but my brother and I could also use it as we need). Our last car (as of now still current) had start/stop but personally I wasn't a fan as the conditions under which it would actually be working seem to be quite limited. Nice to hear good things about the reliability under demanding conditions as we would be buing the car out of warranty! And thank you very much again for taking the time to answer my question!
@@nooaparkatti4571 Go for it. I bought an Astra K Sri 1.4 turbo 150 nearly three years ago and have had no issues at all. Very good performance for a standard family car.
Great video! My Astra K also has mindfulness mode. This is where the Navi 900 entertainment system doesn't work and you have to drive in silence. :)

Nice one David! The manual is full of stuff like "How to start the car" and "press the accelerator to increase engine speed" and "don't stick your fingers in the fan belt" 😂 You gotta sift through to find the gems!

I have a 68 plate estate. A lot of the features you point out have been on earlier Astra models, the open/close windows on the key is a really old feature (I’ve had quite a few Vauxhall’s).
The best feature in the car is the touch screen.

Loved the remote windows feature on my corsa d, which my son now owns. For some reason they decided not to include this with the corsa e, I now have a 67 plate. Looking at this shape astra for my son, who now wants to upgrade, so happy this feature looks to still be available.
I missed this in my Corsa E. I had her for almost 9 yrs. Got my Astra Griffin 2 days ago. Loving her, such a step up from corsa!

Got our Astra 1.2 turbo 110 in Jan 2024 it's a 70 reg done one yr with it
now it had 21.000 on clock now done 26500 no probs go's well just got to keep an eye on the wet belt changing oil n filter every 6000 mls a must using the recommended oil to suit the belt .

Also electric folding mirrors. Make sure the electric mirror selector is in the middle and press down.

weather has been quite nice around here recently and we have a big dog with thick fur, so rolling all the windows at once up and down is pretty handy right now :D
I have the 16 reg sri 1.4t tourer, I have to say it's a decent car tbh, I use it more as a van most of the time and it's amazing how much stuff you can get in it, I've had it 5 months but so far it's been a good reliable car and on tick over, can hardly hear it running.

Weird that you can't turn them off isn't it. I don't think they want you to, but I've not seen many cars where they won't let you at all. But sadly I don't know the answer.

There's only one battery, but in this particular Astra it's in the back. For some it is in the front :)

I have also Astra K with more equepment and for seat belt I did know. Also is good to insulate back of car trunck and wheel arches from where come a lot of noise. If you have LED matrix light you must push fast light stick twice forward and automatic beams turn on (A light icon popup).
Good to know about the insulation as it can be quite noisy at high speed. I wish I had the matrix lights :)

I’ve been following your content on Astra K and really appreciate your insights! I have a few questions about some issues I’ve been experiencing with my 2016 Vauxhall Astra K (ST version) and was wondering if you’ve encountered anything similar:
Have you come across a persistent “Vehicle Soon” message? It’s been displaying for a few years now despite proper servicing (not at an official dealership but following all standards). The message just won’t go away.
Recently, my seat heating stopped working. Do you think it could be related to the fuse box, or might it be caused by something else?
The Navi 9000 display tends to shut off completely during hot summer days, but works fine in winter. Interestingly, it operates perfectly during high humidity. Have you experienced anything like this?
I’d really appreciate your advice or any tips you might have. Thank you in advance!

I no longer have the Astra, but I never had such issues with my car. For the service message, have you manually reset the service interval? Your independent garage might have forgotten to do it, it's a simple procedure if you do a quick google search.
As for the heated seat, perhaps its a fuse, but I know that heated seat elements can get damaged if say a lot of weight has gone on them from someones knee or elbow.
I am not sure about the Navi system, though it does sound frustrating!

what is the lit button marked A thats next to the traction control button?
That's the button to turn off the auto stop start. If you don't want the stop start feature you have to press it every time you run the car. Or just never put the car into neutral and disengage the clutch :)
Two times i found my parking lights On. The Features n1 could explain it :)
We have one of these estate version 2019 all the gadgets you mentioned are on most vauxhall models as standed my 10 year old astra van has all of them too 😀

Hi any news on if the power fold mirrors can be activated in auto mode so they close when you take the keys out of the ignition? I have the 1.4 Elite Turbo model.
I did have a look into this a while back, and as far I know, there's no way to do it without some third party system sadly!

Hi,do you know if the Astra Elite has a sign anywhere on the dash or the touch screen to tell you what the speed limit is on the road you are driving on.
I don't think you could get the traffic sign recognition feature with the Astra, and it certainly isn't standard on the Elite model. Best thing to do is plug in your phone and use Google maps - that shows the speed limit for the current road (at least with Android it does, not sure about iPhone)

Hi, loving your vids still. Quick question about electric front windows. Passenger window not working, I can hear the relay click when I press the button, but nothing happening. Get an error message on the display asking to lower and raise the driver window, which I did, then it asks the same for the passenger window, but the switch doesn’t work. Just wondered if you had encountered this issue?
Thanks man. I did not ever encounter that issue. Sounds like it might not be your problem, and that you may have already tried it, but if not, you could try the following:
If the windows cannot be closed
automatically (e.g. after
disconnecting the vehicle battery), a
warning message is displayed in the
Driver Information Centre.
Activate the window electronics as
follows:
1. Close doors.
2. Switch on ignition.
3. Pull switch until the window is
closed and keep pulling for
additional two seconds.
4. Push switch until the window is
completely open and keep
pushing for additional
two seconds.
5. Repeat for each window.

Yeah I'm not sure what determines if the battery is in the front or the back. Might be an age thing rather than specification

What does the ESC do when on or off, thanks. I own Astra K 1.6T (200) 68' Nav X-Line. Loving it 🙂 subscribed.
Quoting the AA here: "With ESC, wheel sensors can detect the beginning of a slide and small amounts of braking can be applied automatically to individual wheels to regain stability."
Now why would you want to turn it off is the question, well in snow it might cut all the power to the engine as it detects the wheels slipping, meaning the car won't move. Otherwise I'd recommend leaving it on, haha

I think the only reason for turning it off is so that you can drive like on Top Gear and leave sideways black marks on the tarmac. After which you go and buy a new set of tyres.

Great Video I am still discovering menus and things on my car and this was very valuable bits to know :) i showed these things off to my son haha who at first didnt believe me :P hubby is a bit peeved his Astra extate doesnt have as many features as my hatchback haha... Any reccomendations on oil for my turbo? its getting low and i would rather the garage not deal with putting crap oil in so any reccomendations would be appreciated :)

I am not sure now on oil, I haven't had the car for a good while so I don't remember the specifics - I had to take it to Vauxhall for the service so they put in the oil they recommend. I'm sure it will be in the handbook.

Strange... My battery is in the front! Perhaps this is only with the 1.6 engines? I've got the spare tyre under the trunk floor. By the way, what do you think of the hyper sensitive parking sensors?
Does yours have the auto engine start-stop feature? I think it might be the battery is in the back for cars that do. I didn't get parking sensors with the elite model sadly, bit of a shame as it's supposed to be high spec!
@@JJonCars That's correct! I never use it though, it's the first thing I turn off when starting the engine. Mine's a 2017 model. I've still got the old button layout on the steering wheel instead of the circle like buttons you've got. It's the 1.4 125hp engine. I've just passed 60.000KM (37.000 miles) on the clock. Very content with the car, it's my third Astra and the best one yet! Especially happy with the fuel consumption.
Haha well that's actually my theory out the window as I thought it being in the boot meant having start/stop 😄 they must have decided to change it for the slightly newer models I guess 🤷♂️ glad you are enjoying the car!

I have a 2016 model. Got a spare tire and battery in trunk. + with start/stop funtion. So mine is between you both 😅
Another feature is that if you starts the engine it changes the parking light automatically to the indicator instead to tell that you intend to drive out on the road and drive away.
This feature has been on Opel cars since the early 1960s.

What actual average MPG do you get out of the astra?
I used to get an average 40mpg from the 1.6 Turbo petrol Astra. Was quite impressed given the performance.
What do you need parking lights for?
They're for parking by the side of a road at night, when the speed limit is above 30mph (this is technically the law in the UK, though not many do it and I can't imagine it would be enforced). They only turn one light at the front and back on (and no interior dashboard lights) so they are very low drain on the battery and should last all night!

Haha no, they're quite an under used feature so I think a lot of people aren't aware of them or don't know what they are! They're to allow for us to keep to the law (again not that people know or do) where it states that if you park at the side of a road at night with a speed limit of more than 30mph, your car should have the parking lights left on (UK law, other places may vary). They are designed to illuminate just one side of the car and not have interior lights on, all to try to keep the battery drain to a minimum. This way you can park overnight and shouldn't have a flat battery in the morning. A few folks have said that they are useful in very dark countryside locations too :)
I think vauxhall have had remote windows for a while. My first car (04' Corsa C SRI) had them too
What’s the purpose of parking lights? I’ve never understood it!
There is a UK law that you should use them when parked at night on roads with speed limits greater than 30mph. I don't think many ever do that though, and the police don't enforce it. I suppose at least it's a way of making your car visible with the lowest drain on the battery - no lit up dashboard and only one sidelight on
Where I live there are some narrow roads which are pretty dark at night. You can park on the side of the road. Some people put parkinglights on to prevent drivers from driving into the parked car.

@@hammersboy95 Think of a scenario where you are parked on a poorly lit road visiting a friends house for dinner etc, I reckon it could last a few hours.
@@hammersboy95 my car has a battery saving system which switches off all electronics when it senses the battery becoming too low. This starts working for example when you forget a light on in the car.
From what I’ve read online a car battery in good conditions should hold 75hours with the parkinglight on. With led lights it might even last up to a week. I won’t test it that’s for sure 😅
These are a terrific car and highly underrated. The only real fault is the atrocious headlights. It baffles me how they're legal. Ours has done 110000 km and my son's (a manual) almost 200000. Both with nothing but routine maintenance. You must use the correct engine oil however to avoid engine destroying LSPI.
Wait ... no spare and / or no puncture kit in the boot.
It has a tub of 'tyre gunk' and a compressor. Some of them were available with a space saver spare though.
I just bought a 2018 astra k 1.6turbo sportstourer, and ive got a question about the cruise control. My car will only change the speed in 5km/h jumps, for instance 80, 85, 90 and so on. Is there a way to make the changes in speed smaller?
That is quite strange, as you can go up or down by one mile per hour on mine. I'm not sure what would cause that, perhaps someone else will be able to help. I think it's supposed to go up in jumps of 5 only if you hold the button down for longer.
Hey, this can be set on the settings menu -> car. it's possible to select between 1, 5 or 10km/h increments.
@@antonioantunes7758 doesnt seem to be an option for that, atleast that i can find 😕 its a opel astra k sports tourer 2018 mod 1,6 tubro. If you have any info i would really appreciate it. Someone told me since its adaptive cruisecontrol, the increments isnt the same as if it had been normal/standard cruisecontrol

If it has one I believe its in under the boot floor. But a lot of them don't have a spare, just a tube of gunk that seals the tyre - that's what mine had anyway

Yeah, Elite should at least come with led headlights/taillights and parking sensors as standard.

Hello, I watched this video and I want to advise you one more thing good to know. I've had 3 Opel Astras and the latest one I'm driving now has the same fault as the previous two Astras. Namely that the sound from the blinkers does not produce any sound. The turn signals light up as they should. To restore so that I can hear the sound from the flashing, the trick is to turn the volume up to maximum for a second or so, then what I perceive to be the oxidation of the speakers that play the sound disappears. It´s possible for you to send me the reference number of the non Powerflex hole on dashboard ? My unit have one of those and i wont use ...
Anybody here that have the problem that the sound for turning left or right have stopped beeping? This happened just after I hade my winter tyres installed and they have no sensors. It's OK if I get the sound back in the spring re-installing the summer tyres but this is a great hope. The car have NO error codes then I tested the car with my ODB2 reader. Only the lamp for not having found the sensors turns yellow. It's an Opel Astra 2017, petrol version. I have tried the Norwegian methot disconnecting the battery (red cable) for 5 minuets without any luck.
That's a very weird issue Olle. I hope someone here might know what's going on!
@@JJonCars I think I found a solution. My left front speaker hade stopped working so I turned the volume up to max (100%) for a couple of seconds and the day after the sound from the blinker was working once again - happy today! Might have been oxidation that is/was the problem on this Opel Astra 2019. I found this after that I see somebody here at UA-cam geting a new smal speaker and getting the sound for the blinkers back again.

Maybe someone knows if parking sensors can be adjusted such that, if you are in reverse then the front sensors are disabled. It's so annoying, the nonstop beeping because of an obstacle at the front while you are in reverse and waiting for a clear path.
I've owned the Astra K for just over a year. It's a fantastic car, but the lights are a major downside. Once it gets dark, the headlights are borderline useless. From what I've researched, there's really nothing I can do about it. 😭

@@davetherave5151 Nothing yet. I've seen a few suggestions regarding bulb replacements but they are either MOT failures, hardly any different or just incompatible.
The path lightning feature works kinda wired on my car with intelilux lights. They start pulsing instead of giving constant light. Is that normal or its something wrong with the lights?

Own it for a couple of years, rubbish car, the interior of the car is literary melting and the touch screen died just a month after the insurance did not cover it, such a waste of money, i have really regreted it
Sometimes it's not the car, but the owner. In this case, it seems rather obvious.
I bought a 2018 plate last year the touchscreen died 4 days after purchase tha fully I noticed it in warranty period and dealership fixed it at no cost

Fab, I had no idea about the battery being in the boot! The amount of times I've lifted the bonnet to top up the windscreen wash, I never noticed! Also, do you know about the hidden feature of the electric folding door mirrors? With the L/F toggle switch being in it's centre position, push the directional circular cursor button in the downward direction to fold your mirrors. Press again to unfold them.
Me either 'til I looked under the carpet - hadn't noticed in the engine bay either.

@@JJonCars is there a function on the astra k where as if you forget to lock car it locks itself my j had that function.
@@adriancarter825 Yes there is - it's called "automatic relock" and can be turned on in the settings menu under "vehicle"
