THE RITCHIE REVIEW - Vauxhall Astra 2017-2020

  • Winner of the European Car of the Year, the Vauxhall Astra is packed with tech. Howard Ritchie (HR)
Including Vauxhall/Opel Apple Car Play, Steering Assist and Anti Collision Warning system demos, the Vauxhall/Opel On Star App, the On Star Concierge and how the new Astra drives.
Certainly it does devalue the used Astra’s somewhat due to the very extensive improvement curve. But as it starts from around £14,000 approximately it’s not going to break the bank.
With special thanks to Cotswold Airport and their delightful sausage rolls and of course David Arnold.

Currently drive an F10 520D SE on standard springs (hardly any on the used market have adaptive drive!) The reviews were great, but compared to an E-Class it just doesn't stack up. Fidgety motorway ride, especially in the back seats; too much pitching under braking and lateral body movement, which shakes occupants around. Rear legroom is poor compared to my other car which is an Audi Q3. Pros however are that it's good to drive with a decent engine, excellent fuel economy and a quality interior.

BE CAREFUL DONT BUY THE ASTRA 2016 onwards. Poor engine design which causing them to have weak pistons that can go at any point. Costing thousands to replace. Not sure if they’ve fixed this but my 66 plate 1.4 turbo elite has this issue now. They should have recalled all cars and replaced these with the stronger pistons they now have. Mines been fully serviced every 6 months and done less than 28k miles. I bought it used 9 months ago and because it’s 4 years old it’s out of manufacturers warranty. I’m stuck on what to do to be honest. Just thought I’d warn you all so you don’t get fucked over like me. @@mysupport315 No worries, if I were you, I would make sure to have as much history about the car as possible. If history is missing, beware. The one you are looking at might be ok, just check it thoroughly and don't trust the dealer with anything they say. Out of experience, they are full of BS just to sell the car.
