    Thanks for taking the time to show us this stuff!
    If you don't get a sufficient amount of holes left behind when you pop the rivet heads off when ripping the keyboard off, you can take a small, sharp flat-bladed screwdriver and tap the little rivet posts until they pop right out. They make nice, clean holes. You only need to do ever other or every second one to get a perfect hold-down of the keyboard.

    i fix one like that last week. I got a little concern at the beginning, but it was easy on the end. ripping the keyboard out was fun. I did add the screws in the end, special on the top area. I did have a bag of a1280 ones that fit nice. and did not make much a impact. I nice going

      Yeah :-) that's the most fun I have every time I do this. Sometimes u will have holes for the screws sometimes u won't. If u do always add the screws in all of them because nothing will support them from the other side. If there is none and keyboard doesn't feel sturdy than u have to improvise :-)

    There are sellers on ebay that sell the new keyboard with replacement screws included. Once you rip out the old keyboard the holes that remain will accept these mini screws.

    Wow. Thanks for the help. It took me 4 hrs.to change the keyboard on my retina. A lot longer than an older macbook pro. By the way, I used crazy glue on all of the rivets to hold it down.

      Hi Keith, I'm planning to try myself on my MBP 13" Retina as well, and since it's the first repair I would ever be doing on a laptop (have only done in those old big desktops), I might be a little bit too worried about some things. Is there any contact you can share with me so I can ask you questions when I start my repair?
      Btw, can you link me to the glue you used and also where you bought the keyboard replacement? I only found a replacement on amazon but not sure if it's the best place to buy. Thanks!

      Feel free to ask me questions. I'll try to help. I purchased the keyboard on Amazon for $48.90 Canadian from irepairmac. However it is currently not available. I used instant Gorilla glue.
      Your best bet is to take photos when you are removing screws and parts so you remember where they go. And wear gloves when you rip out the old keyboard as our friend stated.

    Building up the courage to do so, my enter and right shift key doesn't work anymore. Changing the battery without all the proper equipments was scary enough. Not enough money do get another MAC if anything goes wrong.

    Great video. Keyboard works great, however I have 6 left over screws lmao. I'd like to note that you should wear safety glasses when popping out the keyboard. I rivet flew into my eye like a mini bullet. Luckily it hit JUST right at the corner of my eye.

    I watched your video several times and read through the comments. I decided to give this a try. I got all the way to putting the new keyboard in only to find that there were no holes on the new keyboard that matched up with the rivet heads on the case. Well, actually one matched up but the keyboard won't lay flat. Is it okay to snap off the tall rivet heads as is suggested by the Radio Pleasure Palace comments? Thanks.... I hope you are still answering these questions as I HATE working with my PC and obviously, my macbook is out of commission!

    Thank You - I've got problems with my keyboard - that little rubber is moving around the nest. I have try to use double side tape, but this is only for few weeks. If computer heats up - tape is peeling off and fun begins again. Do You have any checked method to repair this ? Because I thinking about replace keyboard - but after I see this film I know it is the last thing I'll do :-P Thank You for replay !

    Hi Milan , my mouse click was not working , and when I tried to remove the track pad, the retainer clip for the trackpad ribbon came off. Is this something that can be put back in ? Also, now the keyboard also does not work. Will replacing the trackpad take care of the keyboard issue as well ? Thank you so much for your valuable inputs

    Thanks for your video. Are you saying that some a1425 models will have screw holes for the keyboard and others won't?

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  7 років тому

      all palmrests have holes for the screws to be screwed in. all of those holes are filled up with small aluminum rivets that are "kind of screwed in" and have a small flat head that holds the keyboard down. when you rip the old keyboard sometimes all of these will come out, sometimes some, sometimes none. depending on this you will have holes or you wont. if you dont, than you need to pull these rivets out. i use small sharp wire cutters to twist and pull them out. that might help you

      Milan Stojic ok so i went through with this repair. When I first got this rmbp it wouldn't respond to keyboard power button but would turn on when you plugged in magsafe with fans on high. I assumed liquid damage to the keyboard. I just replaced the keyboard, now it doesn't turn on when you plug in magsafe but it also doesn't turn on when you press the power button. I did an smc reset and the magsafe light changes meaning the keyboard works. Any ideas? Thx!

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  7 років тому

      Look for liquid damage on the board or some other components. It can also be the battery. try to unplug it (unscrew it better said) and than test without it. Also disconnect the trackpad. A bad trackpad will make the fan spin on high as it fails the test. Now if it was turning on before you did the repair, it should now, that means you did something wrong, or even worse, damaged something that wasnt.

      Milan Stojic new update: keyboard works, trackpad works, but it's not recognizing the battery. I replaced the battery today with a new one but it still won't recognize it and power on normally. The only way it will power on is if I unplug the battery, hold down power button and connect magsafe but then the fans will run on high. I'm beginning to wonder if there is something wrong with the logic board even though it doesn't appear to have signs of liquid damage. Is it possible that the little square piece that connects the board to the battery could have gone bad?

    hi, Every time i press enter key on my A1425 macbookpro, my keyboard keeps typing backslash, i reinstalled osx, then formatted and installed windows, even replaced the internal keyboard as the procedure you documented in this ytube video, yet problem still there, nothing solved the repeating \ character problem! any idea? maybe keyboard controller chip on logic board is faulty?! with usb keyboard, no such behavior arises .

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  5 років тому

      It's possible. Cant really say. If you had some liquid damage to the keyboard originally, it could have gone to the connector on the board. You might want to check this. I've seen this often. I don't do repairs for years already. If you don't see any residue on the keyboard connector I would take it to a shop to get it looked at.

    Hey is there any way i can pay you to do this exact replacement on my late 2012 retina macbook? its 13" like this one. and how much would you charge?

  • @arrowdeeper
    @arrowdeeper 9 років тому

    But the inside of the A1502 model looks very different from the A1425 model. I'm looking to make this repair myself on an A1502 model but it looks like parts of the battery are actually covering the keyboard (unlike the A1425 model where the battery is entirely separate from the keyboard). Once the components have been stripped out of the A1502 (apart from the battery) then it looks like you can't go any further until you've removed and presumably unglued the battery, as there's no long section of battery running all the way across that can just be propped up like in the A1425 to allow you full access to the keyboard underneath. I'd love to believe I'm wrong but it doesn't look very promising. There's a video showing a teardown of the A1502 and it really looks like the guy can't get any further without removing the battery. Surely the battery would need to be removed before the keyboard could be removed and replaced?

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  9 років тому

      The repair is exactly the same. You don't take the battery out to replace the screen. All the procedure is the same and parts that you will take out, screw, cables, hinges everything 100%. Battery connector is different on the old retina and does not need to be unplugged. If you want to do that than just unscrew the screws, do not loose them, there is one screw that allows your battery to turn on the laptop. Without that screw it won't turn on any more.
      Other than that I don't see where you are getting confused

    • @arrowdeeper
      @arrowdeeper 9 років тому

      Milan Stojic When the components are stripped down to the battery and keyboard/backlight, it looks like 2/3rds of the battery is covering part of the back of the keyboard/backlight, assuming the keyboard and backlight components are rectangular. And unlike the A1425, there isn't a long part of the battery that can be "unhinged" and propped open. Hope that makes sense. The only way I can see that the battery wouldn't have to be removed is if the keyboard/backlight isn’t rectangular, but instead is an odd shape like the part that's visible once you strip everything else away. Is this the case?

    • @milanstojic3295
      @milanstojic3295  9 років тому

      Oh man, sorry I read the wrong title. You are replacing the keyboard/backlight and I was looking at the LCD replacement video. I was like why r u taking out all the components :-)
      With A1425 u don't need to take out the battery, with A1502 u have to. Battery is glued completely and requires a thin pryer to be slid under it to lift it gently a little by little. If u make a mistake and pierce the batt it can blow up on you. This is the hardest thing to remove on A1502! I will be posting a vid on how to do that specifically, but in the meantime I'm suggesting u to be very careful and if u don't feel completely comfortable do not attempt this.
      U might end up with a lot of smoke and cash out for the new batt which is pricy.
      Sorry abt the confusion in the first reply

      Milan Stojic Ok no worries. Yeah I figured it looked too good to be true! A video on removing and reinstating the battery would be really helpful as I can imagine there are probably plenty of do's and don't's..
