He built this when he didn't have much money. The car was one of those builds that was thrown together with spare parts, so it didn't require much investment, just a lot of effort. On top of KAs being dirt cheap, he wanted to show that they have potential to be a good alternative to SR20s because of the extra torque as long as you do it right. That's why he didn't go for an F20C engine.

Makes sense as far as affordability goes for sure. Reliability however is a question that we'll just have to hope it holds up. @jimmyoakes you have holes check compression your timing is off overlap bro Seat to seat timing and valve overlap is everything especially with anything past a stock cam even tho there all basically stock cams it's literally the same core doesn't matter what brand or company lol but I've seen that same thing with the cobra 4v which you can take the right side head and put it on the left and vise versa but even if you swap heads cams stay in the position regardless of the L or R head they stay the same but I've fought that same problem with stock cams and after market ones looking at the graph things in the overlap side where your at your gonna have to get a degree wheel and individually degree your cams I've had to run retarded timing on one cam and advance on the other you throw boost at it it will make the difference because your falling off on overlap valves not sealing at the right time you'll lose boost pressure the higher you go because of float and overlap it's not restriction and it's not a restriction it's a loss from overlap because the valve arnt opening and closing at the tight time will not have right compression and will be what your fighting and the whole exhuast side will have problems because the power to feed the turbo gets delivered from the cylinder through the exhaust so if your overlap is off you can throw all the boost at it be chasing the number like you are I just fought this again on my own shit bro it's in the head if you didn't have the oversized valves it wouldn't be as big of a problem

@@gabewilson81 yup doing a compression check as it sit verses tdc and so on can give you reference to see how far your outta spec the problem with bigger cams and over sized valves is the over lap getting the seat to seat timing of the lobe to correctly load the valve stem to create the right window or in the case the right over lap in the valves between the four cycles happen for each cylinder intake compression power exhuast and if ones on intake and ones on exhaust and one hole is losing compression due to over lap and the hole on power will have to make up for the hole not hitting right so then you have a very inconsistent power band due to lack of proper compression in the cylinder and if your bleeding off compression how will you have the proper exhaust pressure to spin the turbo properly and then adding boost to it makes it worse because you can blow out spark or force so much are through the cylinder that you loose power due to the turbo pushing power outta the hole before the right time due to the overlap in the cam which effects seat to seat timing on the stem and then we start chasing I done before and still do untill I catch my self fight something enough you learn eventually lol sbc sbf dohc sohc interference engines especially like his and mine are a bitch about it especially with the over sized valves it's gonna all rely on them to get the mechanical timing set to zero using a degree wheel and then go from there after finding true zero for each of the cams in there respective positions with the cam gets set they know tdc and have everything else set so it's all in the correct seating vs lobe positioning and where true lands

Yessir, you’re definitely not wrong! Compression test ended up being super good numbers, not worried so we were in the clear. So these are “drop in” style cams which technically means there is no need for degreeing. That being said, I have seen a lot of “drop in” style cams that definitely needed degreeing hahah would love to actually get it degreed but for now I’m going to assume the larger of the issues is within something else. 🤝🖤

I appreciate videos like this Jim! Although it didn’t go smoothly, the content is even better because It’s all about the process and I actually learn more when you guys run into issues and explain things that can happen along the way compared to everything just going smoothly. Keep it up boys ❤️
