After watching Red, White & Royal Blue I'm really hoping for more of my favorite romance novels to be turned into silly little rom-coms. It's just so much fun!
RWARB was soooo FREAKING WELL DONE into a film!
@srebnoeva really? You think so? My friend read the book & watched the movie and said a few very big plot points from the book were lost in the movie (I have only watched the movie) /lh
@auggienussbaum I read (and loved) the book and thought the movie was great
@@srebnoeva Hard disagree but I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I think in general Amazon Prime video is one of the better studios for adaptations. I also enjoyed the wheel of time and wilderness
I really want The Secret History to be made into a movie, but I’m also so worried that it would be bad, that maybe it’s best that it remain “unfilmable”.
i feel like if it were to be made into something for the screen it would have to be a series or a mini series, like condensing donna tartt's mammoth of a book into a 90 minutes feature would be impossible and i feel like there is nothing throwaway in the book
but the vibes will be immaculate ✨
Hear me out,@@izzuhbell7990: make it four hours long
i would die to see it turned into like a 4 hour movie but i feel like no one could do it justice
i really want it on the screen but i dont think i could handle it if it turned out bad
Reading Bunny by Mona Awad felt like watching an A24 film. I'm really curious to see how someone would adapt it for the screen and if done properly I think it could be amazing
I was about to comment this- would be an insane horror film
Yesssss or something bubblegum twee punk like what Ryan Murphy produces
It should be an A24 film directed by Emerald Fennel
We missed you!!!
He doesn’t reply .
Someone should adapt The Song of Achilles into a film. Seeing the relationship of Achilles and Patroclus progress, while the epic story unfolds, on the big screen would be a delight
I agree with an adaption but should be a mini series on HBO
If I become a filmmaker I’ll do it!
@@iamnatalietang That would also be a good idea! TV Shows , especially those on HBO, get to explore stories in greater detail than movies can
@@jackdonohue7893 That would be incredible! Best of luck in all your endeavors
Yessss, would also love to see Circe tho!
List of Books
1:50 The Girls by Emma Cline
2:35 Small Pleasures by Clare Chambers
3:26 The Invisible Life of Addie Larue’ by V.E. Schwab
5:49 Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie
6:55 Less by Andrew Sean Greer
8:24 The Girl With The Louding Voice by Abi Daré
9:16 Magpie by Elizabeth Day
9:50 Elena Knows and A Little Luck by Claudia Piñeiro
The Invisible Life of Addie Larue is being made into a film directed by Augustine Frizzle. It's also my ALL time favourite book. :)
I finished the invisible life of Addie Larue after a hold at the library- I then 1) bought a copy for re- reads because I liked it so much, then 2) googled if it would be a movie because I thought the exact same thing as Jack. I can’t wait for it to come out. I’m sure the book will be better, usually is.
Omg your presentation shelf of all the classics is absolutely stunning !
I want If We Were Villains to be a movie so freaking bad.
I second that! If We Were Villains needs to be a movie!
YES
It would be soo good
It's actually going to be a TV show!
It’s getting adapted!!!
I'd love a Piranesi movie one day. It would work great with experimental animation too
please i would simply die
I thought about Piranesi too but at the same time I feel everyone who’s read it has probably such a strong image in their mind that a movie would just destroy that. It just feels like a book you have to read instead of watch
Yes! I need a Piranesi movie
Not a movie, but I want The House in the Cerulean Sea be made into an animated series. It's SO adorable.
no way!! why didn't i know that??
where can I watch it?
Yes same!
Love the movie discussion, BUT! The main point here is the bookshelf. You've organized it! The clothbounds are of course stunning, looks great.
Now, I desperately need a video where you talk about your current setup. I realize I'm way too invested in your home library, please excuse the unhinged nature of what is to follow. Seeing you build it had a strong parasocial impact, like I feel your bookshelves are also my bookshelves, and not knowing what's going on with them is lowkey stressful. Your book collection is my Paul Mescal. I only want good things for it, even though it doesn't know I exist.
Also "Adriane" and "Circe" would be great as movies
Ahh we missed you, Jack! We know you’re busy, though. Guess who’s hosting this year’s Booker Prize livestream? 👏✨ Seeing you winning at life also makes us giddy, I hope you don’t mind. We’re also your friends (against your will lol)
I would love to see Our Wives Under The Sea adapted for the screen. I felt like I could see it playing out in my mind and I hope to see it on screen someday!
Would love to see "Tender is the Flesh" turned to a movie
So would I.
yep I totally see it as an A24 movie
sing me up for that!
I really disliked that book but I would be interested to see it turned into a movie. If the script was well written I think it could be an example of the adaptation exceeding the original.
Elena knows (Elena Sabe) is actually being made as a movie by Netflix Argentina! And starring some iconic argentinian actresses, exciting!
Erica Rivas como Rita puede ser la mejor elección de casting de la historia.
I’d like to see an adaptation of This is how you lose the time war ❤️💙 Imagine! Not sure if that’s feasible but a girl can dream
Haha Paul Mescal is our collective bestie! I loved the trailer for ‘All of us strangers’.
Jessie Buckley is the queen of literary adaptations. And she narrates Dickens' audio books. I wish she was my friend. 😊 Can't wait to see Hamnet. If Small Pleasures is made into a film I hope the script ignores the last few pages.
I honestly cant believe movie producers and script writers keep reheating old stuff again and again when there are soooo many great books and serieses are just right there waiting. I am an avid sci-fi reader as well as literary fiction, and there are so many amazing sci-fi book series that havent seen any screen time yet.
I would love to see On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous turned into a film, as long as it was guaranteed to be made exquisitely well!
A24 is currently developing a film adaptation last time I heard!
@@ccizzles 😲
yessss
@@ccizzlesthat’s so exciting, i didn’t know that!! i already know i’ll be sobbing when i see it on screen
and ocean vuong is writing the screenplay himself 🥲
ahhhhh the classics in the middle are such a vibe
Actually, an Elena Knows movie is in post production! By an Argentine production company, so not A24 but I think I prefer it that way.
I am really hoping we get Loveless by Alice Oseman as a movie
1:51 I'm reading The Girls now! 100% agree it should be a movie 🤩
Obsessed with the thought of Hamnet being turned into a movie oh my god. Fun fact, it was one of your videos that made me want to read that book, and now it’s one of my favourites!! Not even finished the video yet I’m just hyped about that already
I haven’t made it to the end of this video yet BUT ATLAS SIX!!! if netflix don’t mess up the special effects and make it look stupid then it has their name ALL OVER IT!! Think shadow and bone but modern day new york and london meets umbrella academy. diverse characters, character development driven as well as plot- ugh in love! it would HAVE to be a series though with like 20 episodes each season
I would love to see “heaven” by Mieko Kawakami made into an A24/Netflix kinda limited series.
When I read This is How You Lose the Time War I visualized everything in my head as beautiful, abstract animation - would love to see that in reality!
that middle shelf situation showing off your hardback classics?? immaculate
SO GLAD YOU’RE BACK!! my morning/night routines have been in desperate need of a dose of your cozy content these past 3 weeks ❤
Same!! I was so happy when I saw he updated.
dont forget that hamnet is goint to be directed by chloé zhao !!! one of the best young directors working today :)
NO WAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY HAMNET IS BEING MADE INTO A MOVIE AND PAUL MESCAL IS IN IT
omg yes best news ever - reading hamnet was one of the best experiences ever, so keen for it to be a film!
We missed you so muccccch!🥲
I would love to see " I'll give you the Sun" by Jandy Nelson
Me too!
i don't know if you're aware but Lie with me has been turned into a movie and it's AMAZING. I bawled my eyes out even though I knew the story because I had read the book
I'm dying to see One Last Stop by Casey Mcquinston as a film, especially after seeing her other book, Red White and Royal Blue being turned into a film so brilliantly!!!
Jack if you're looking for a show that depicts its protagonists in different time periods and is also done really well you should totally check out good omens!! also it's adapted from an amazing book
There is in fact an amazing movie based on one of Claudia Pineiro's books. The movie and book are called Thursday Widows (Las viudas de los jueves). It's an Argentinian movie from 2009, and it's about four couples living in a luxurious private neighbourhood in Buenos Aires, the secrets they keep and the price they have to pay to keep the facade of a perfect life. It is in Spanish, but i'm sure there must be subtitled versions.. I hiiighly recommend it!
I think Piranesi would be awesome, but idk if the scenarios would be as cool as they are in the book. The seven death of Evelyn Hardcastle could be a cool mini series
HARDCORE agree on Piranesi. The potential sets/CG work would be fantastic.
I've been meaning to read the girl with the louding voice for forever. Magpie is also in my TBR.
Okay but how INCREDIBLY BREATHTAKING would a movie adaptation of Babel by R.F. Kuang be?!
that's a good one!!
I NEED alone with you in the ether movie version
I’m so excited for the Cleopatra and Frankenstein tv show, feel like it will give me all the gossip girl nyc vibes!
I haven't read The Invisible Life of Addie Larue yet, but every time I hear the plot, I'm reminded of the movie The Age of Adaline. I recommend it wholeheartedly.
This is your friendly reminder to reread my favorite book The Master and Margarita. Thank you :3
Netflix is adapting one hundred years of solitude, which is one of my favorite books of all time, and if they fuck it up I’m gonna cry
i would really love "bunny" as a movie by/or in the same style as jennifer's body, with horror and dark comedy
oh my god it would be AWESOME
Jack is my comfort person
the 11 minute and 11 second duration was a paid actor
You will be happy to know that there is going to be an adaptation of Addie larue
Can we just appreciate how ahead of its time White Teeth was considering British novels written nearly a decade later borrow heavily both in terms of themes and character arcs. (Yes I'm talking about Home Fires).
Elena knows movie is in process 😊
Elena knows is being made into a movie by Netflix Argentina! (Elena sabe)
100% to Less being adapted. Would also love to see Gods and Jade and Shadow by Silvia Morena-Garcia in a movie or mini-series.
Can you share your skin routine? Your skin is flawless.
Very clever posting this at the same time as your Margot Robbie video
She could watch that then this and get inspired, fulfilling your book -> movie dreams!
I really want Hollywood to hurry up and make Hail Mary (Andy Weir) into a movie already! I believe Ryan Gosling is already linked to it, which would be awesome!
Also Home Fire is a GREAT shout, cant believe nobody has done that yet, especially because its based on a play.
7:03 I’d like to take credit for informing Jack about the ‘Lessons in Chemistry’ adaptation.
Need Bunny into a movie!! Imagine if it was done really well
The clothbounds on your bookshelves are looking - *chefs kiss* - btw
I’d love to see a Netflix adaptation of Aztec and Shogun
speaking of v.e. schwab, vicious and vengeful would make such a good show!! except vengeful would probably be the ‘not as good as the first season’ second season 😭😂
I’d love to see the Poppy War series adapted into three movies/ or a series.
The Poppy War series WILL be adapted for television!! We don't know much details yet, but it's confirmed!
I would love to see Exit West by Mohsin Hamid turned into a TV series
Sorry Jack, but I kept being distracted by how good your library looks on the background
YOU'RE BACK!!!!
What?! Hamnet is being made into a movie?! Paul Mescal?! I need this available to me now!
I REALLY need to read Home Fire. I did my bachelor's capstone project on Antigone and retellings/reimagining stories, so it sounds SO up my alley. Thank you for the reminder!!
I found out recently that A Little Life was being turned into a movie and I don't know how to feel about it : excited or really really angry
Very unconventional picks for me because I typically like literary fiction, but I read The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson and thought it was written in such a cinematic way! Same with her book from last year, House Of Hunger. Something about Henderson's writing just feels like it was meant more for screen than page.
i think open water should become a mini series or a movie esp on bbc / hbo . the author just portrays everything so lyrical and cinematical
I was really surprised when I learned that The Hollow Man by John Dickson Carr has never been adapted, it's one of the best mystery novels I've ever read ! It could have been such an awesome 50's vintage movie for example, but I don't know if the film industry would do it justice nowadays.
jack in the books has really become Jack, in the books with the bookshelves. it really does look like you live in a mystical book cave i love love love!!
Love how this video is about "I wish this book was a movie/series" and the length of the video is 11:11
7:00 It could star Neil Patrick Harris. Or change it up and cast Kal Penn.
i'd love to see "the house in the cerulean sea" adapted as an animated movie
Was looking for this!! I felt like I was watching a Pixar movie in my head as I read it. Same with lives of puppets
@@elyssarenae yesss exactly!
Jack, your timing is perfect. I just needed to procrastinate so badly and I've seen that you added a new video. Thank you! Great as always
There's a book called America is Not the Heart by Elaine Castillo. It's about several generations of a Filipino family living in the Bay Area in the 90s. It delves into history, immigration, family, love, and it features a lot of music too. The whole era and setting would make for an amazing TV series with a banging soundtrack.
Its also an amazing book in its own right.
Hamnet by Maggie o’Farrell
The girls by Emma cline
Small pleasures by Clare Chambers.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V. E. Schwab
Home fire by Kamila Shamsie
Less by American author Andrew Sean Greer
The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Dare
Magpie by by Elizabeth Day
a little luck by Claudia Piñeiro
Elena knows by Claudia Piñeiro
I’d love to see the American Royals series as like a Netflix show or something. Like it’s just such a good series, and there are already shows like it, like The Crown
I totally never got the hype surrounding Hamnet, I never liked it much but I’m happy for the author it’s so popular.
I can imagine Small Pleasures being a great Wes Anderson film… it needs to happen!
Lessons in Chemistry is on Apple TV?! If only I had a subscription to that *sigh*.
Love this new filming location Jack! Just so on brand and amazing
I heard you were gonna be announcing the Booker winner! Congratulations 👏🎉 can't wait to see you there.. You deserve it😊
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is in development for an adaptation! Heard it from the author during a talk she gave!
Archer's Voice is my favorite romance novel. I kind of don't want it to be a movie because it'll take away the beautiful picture I have of it in my mind. They'd have to make it really, really good just to meet expectations. Adaptations are typically not that great I think but I'd watch if it did. I love the book so much I might just reread it. 💙🫶
HOW is this the way i find out about the hamnet film!??? paul mescal!!??? HELLO and jessie buckley!!??? i burn i pine i perish
This is the best video for a stupid ass daydreamer like me lol I’ll read all these books to feed my daydreams and dream casts lmao thanks !!!
I’d love to see the starless sea but I’d like to see it exactly the way I imagine it 😅 it would be the best movie!
Jack, did you listen to the audiobook format of The Girl With The Louding Voice?? It's SO good!
BABEL!! please babel someone. I am not even a reader of fantasy or YA.. not even close. But i just kept on envisioning a movie..!!
We need Carry On by Rainbow Rowell in cinemas YESTERDAY.
I keep wondering how it is possible that nobody had yet JUMPED on the rights to make a movie of "The Secret History"??... not saying it should absolutely be made into one, just wondering how on earth it's possible there isnt
The last chapter of Home Fire is fiiire. I won’t necessarily place it on my FBoAT list, but it 100% makes the best ending list.
YES to Invisible Life of Addie… !!!!! The “white centric” didn’t even enter my mind when I was reading it.
How to kill your family would be a "lovely" tv show
You talked so long about Paul Mescal, I finished my meal (but I understand)
another book by v.e. schwab that i'm dying to see on screen is "a darker shade of magic"! i think it would be a very great mix of harry potter (if it wasn't written by a f8cking terf) and blade runner 2049 in the visual sense of it.
Hi all, our platform will be launching soon.
You will then be able to recommend every story you would like to see adapted to screens.
