Me too! But now, in my late 50s, I'm reminded of the grandmothers who watched Lawrence Welk and I miss them. I don't recall hearing the Lennon sisters, but now I respect their craft and the work it must take to harmonize like this.
The oldest girl had the most beautiful solo voice, but she said she didn't have an ear for harmonizing at all. The two middle sisters were born with that gift.
I grew up with the Lennon sisters (via TV). I just emailed "May You Always" song to my adult grandson who lives on the west coast...and I live on the east coast. Had to chock back tears while listening as I love him so much. The music back in my day had something to say!

My wife and I saw the the Lennon Sisters in Branson, MO. The Welk group were kind enough to sign autographs after the show. I had nothing to sign but asked Kathy "how do you get to kiss a Lennon Sister" and she turned her cheek and I kissed it. WOW!!!

I think that skit is hilarious! It doesn't mock them, it's just supposed to be bizarre and funny. And most importantly, it's what led me to discover the Lennon sisters. I'm only 21, and if it weren't for the skit I never would have heard of them, and I'm so glad I did! They're amazing and timeless.

Was lucky enough to go to the same elementary school (St. Mark in Venice, CA) as the Lennon Sisters and their cousins mentioned above. Their whole extended family is wonderful.
Loved their tight harmony. And yet, it is enjoyable listening to their little solo sections. Together they sing as one but they definitely had variation among their voices.
I grew up with that whole family in Venice, CA, and I can tell you, they don't have a brother named John. The brothers are Dan, Pat, Bill, Joe and Chris (Kip).
This kind of sister act is extremely rare, they enjoyed a long run.
This kind of music makes me happy and super sad at the same time.....

I grew up with that whole family in Venice, CA, and I can tell you, they don't have a brother named John. The brothers are Dan, Pat, Bill, Joe and Chris (Kip).
