Are you curious about retiring in Panama? In this video, I break down the REAL costs of living here, from housing to food and healthcare. Is Panama the affordable retirement destination you've been dreaming of? Let's find out! Drop your thoughts and questions below-I'd love to hear from you!
It’s refreshing that you are giving this advice without trying to convince us to pay money to attend your conference, coaching, or expat anything for sale. Makes the message more genuine. Thank you!
Thank you Maggie, for your candid, authentic, reliable, realistic content. It’s so so very important, I greatly appreciate you and SWRA. It’s sad that many don’t appreciate truth. Truth reigns supreme! I’m thinking that the cost of an attorney to relocate wasn’t included here. Jackie says it’s no more than 2k for a single person. Should I add that to relocation cost? Did you go on a relocation tour well before you actually moved to Panama? How many trips did you make prior to moving? I was thinking about a tour with Panama Relocation in June but after this video, I’m thinking that I should give myself another year, because I want to increase my $ cushion and give my virtual business more time to become solid. So I’m wondering, if I may not be moving for a year should I do the tour as soon as June, or do you recommend that I wait until next year this time? You were certainly talking directly to me when you mentioned the need to get away for my sanity. The idea of a sabbatical is definitely a possibility. Thank you again, what you offer is absolutely priceless. You’re truly a gift. 💝
Hola and thank you for your comment. I did not do a relocation tour as I enjoy the research of finding things out on my own. I visited 3 times before making the move. The tours are helpful for those who have a limited time or those who want a more catered model of getting information...so it's really a personal decision. Waiting until you are in a better financial position is wise. 2K is on the high end to get your visa...Prices are going up because the lawyers are seeing so many of us coming here. The old supply and demand..continue to learn more by watching the videos. If you feel a sabbatical would be helpful...do it...take care of YOU. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Maggie, great content as always. I was wondering if we should budget for immigration lawyer/fees for anything that will come up annually like filing expat taxes or renewing drivers license and taking Spanish lessons too. Okay, keep your chin up and keep smiling. You make me smile and laugh a lot. 💐
I understand what you are saying.I will be working, because I have to whether I want to or not. I will be leaving the US, but until then I have to work!
Hola. You can get a senior discount card to ride the Metro and Metro Bus. If you travel to the interior, you have to ask for a senior discount too. Saludos desde Miami. Soy panameña americana
Great point! Outstanding liabilities, expenses from home should be added and will affect what you can afford here. Thanks for watching and for the feedback.
Self assessment is vital in order to craft the lifestyle wanted. I retired from Long Island going on 6 years now, near my sister and Neice after divorce.
Did I hear you mentioned Costa del Oeste as a place not to live as a single older woman? Oh my goodness! I'm planning to come to you Panama for the month of March as a house sitter for a couple who lives in an apartment there. I'm hoping to take the time there to explore other areas to find the best place for me with an income of $2,500 a month.

Better to get to interior, buy & build. House 70% complete after 12yrs(3100sqft) skylink, 6 guard dogs in a safe area, not needed but we love Rotties. 10hectares, 150 lemon trees, sat tv, 2 horses, 2 cows, 80 coffee trees & more. 3 employees. Total per month 3.5k. Lets us put 500 a month into house. We returned 10yrs ago(bride of40yrs fromhere)
I love your vlogs! But I think your decision about your dog has nothing to do about growing up. I am quite grown up qne if my dog was still alive she would somehow have come with me on my move. I will find a puppy once I am moved and in place.
I wish I were black/darker skin tone so I could be full fledged part of your on-the-ground community - but, m’lady, sitting up here ‘al Norte’, I’ve gained so much insight and spiritual sustenance listening in these many months to your epic rants ; ) You are so intelligent/articulate/positive, and love all the episodic giggling. - from a skinny ol’gal, shopping the globe for a friendlier vibe and more sensible/fumctional healthcare milieu than the mess we’ve made of it up here in US (stuff of nightmares, imho!)
