- This Tokyo guide for How to Japanese Summer Festival aka Japanese Matsuri is focused on Mikoshi. In this Japan guide, we follow Naoto, a Japanese Man, behind the scenes at this Japanese mikoshi festival called Kitazawa Hachiman Aki Matsuri. We’ll also be joining his Mikoshi team “Shin-no-Mutsumi” in Shimokitazawa Tokyo Japan. This is a Japan Guide as well as Tokyo Guide to how Japanese men participate in Japanese Festivals like Mikoshi and what a Japanese Man would wear like the Japanese Happi, Japanese Obi and Tabi shoes.
Mikoshi, is a traditional ritual held during that happens at some Japanese festivals. Mikoshi is the name of the portable Shinto Shrine that people carry around. Followers believe it serves as a vehicle to transport the God while moving between its main shrine and around throughout the neighborhood and spread its power among the people. Japanese Men and Woment who carry the Mikoshi, wildly bounce the portable shrine up and down with crazy high energy because it’s believed to Amuse the God inside.

Naoto is hilarious. Drunk friends are the best friends...when on camera.
Hands up who wants to see a video where Paolo takes Naoto to the other guys craft brewery 🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️
Winner winner, take Paolo to dinner? ....with beer! hehe
Ill be ur first like 😉
I think you're the only one who can truly explain everything in Japan for foreigners.
Remember the time when people were allowed to be that close? What a time that was to be alive
Give it 5-6 months and it will be over, either through the most vulnerable population dying and everyone else gaining immunity or widespread vaccines.
Japan's COVID level is already 1, the lowest. Prolly next year it'd be back to all normal... I miss the packed Baseball games and the tremendous energy and enthusiasm.
Totally crushing on Naoto.
He is handsome...

Drunk Naoto was the best part !!! 😜
More of Naoto pls 😊
This is why I love your contents. I found myself smiling the whole time.
I carried one of the Mikoshi during my first visit to Japan in 2018. It's a lot of fun 😄😄👍🏻👍🏻 amazing experience 😄😄
That’s amazing! So was it only one day or multiple days? Did you have to participate all the way through?
On 5:04 it's so sweet to see your partner "in crime" come and discreetly protect you from the rain with her umbrella. She's a keeper 💕
Please dont ever change, Japan. Your culture is awesome.
It is depends on their religion, Abrahamic religion usually destroy this kind of old culture because most of Japanese who doing this festival is Shinto. It's mean, when most of Japanese people still with their beliefs, I Think this festival will never disappear.
Naoto is a GOAT! I bet he would be fun to hang out with
I'm sure many ladies there like Naoto
And guys
I was weirded out by some weird festival called kanamara penis festival
@@babushkablyattv2751 Weird? Yeah. But I feel like we do a lot of weird things in a good way.
i'm not.
not my type
I’m more into Suke(the other team member)
No one mention his wife covering him with umbrella sat 5:03
That was fun. Nice to see lots of young people carrying on the tradition. More fun with friends, I suspect so you have a better chance at getting home after all the drinking. More on craft beer please! I don’t drink much myself but I find the industry very exciting.
Wow 550 years old! So cool that tradition goes back that far. I didn't know you had to wear the traditional uniform before you could touch it
Tokyo is already my favorite city in the world. Your videos make me want to just move and live there! Great job Pablo! And Maiko for filming!
So cool! I am Japanese but never got to join such mikoshi team. It was interesting to see the other side of my country.

For me As a Nepali ... (Newari) i feel like Japanese culture so much similar to newari culture ... we have jatra in nepal .. various different kinda jatra like indra jatra and kumari jatra etc ... where we all people participate in pull the shrine around the city ...
Naoto's so down-to-earth. Really cool and great friend! More of him n your videos
I participated in a mikoshi matsuri a few years back in Kashiwa in Chiba prefecture. That was super fun, really painful for the shoulders and everyone got so drunk :D We went on for almost 12 hours I think.
But one of my best experiences I have had in Japan.
Great job Paolo!!
I see that you're covering more unique things in Japan unlike the generic stuff.
Been watching a few of your video and I'm seeing improvements from one video to another!!!
Keep up the awesome updates!
Many thanks for taking us to that festival : D
One Love
i want to see more of how japanese festival are conducted. this video was amazing; the energy and enthusiasm was great.
Awesome video Paolo! I remember seeing this in Gotanda back in the day and I couldnt believe how big some of the bruises and lumps were on people necks and shoulders from carrying the mikoshi, was crazy and an amazing experience, the entire community was part of it and the streets were completely blocked everywhere in every direction, what a great time!
japanese curry is my favorite. with a beer? look awesome.
Great video , well spoken narrative of the festival & your nice friends. Keep it up as nowadays some people just can’t afford to travel, but through you we can learn & admire Japans culture!! Thx.
Great video! I think Japan has some of the best festivals. Thanks for showing us 🙏
I was at Sanja Matsuri in Asakusa this past may. It was amazing and I was so happy to catch it. I'm normally not a parade or festival person but I tend to enjoy Japanese and other Asian parades/festival infinitely more so than others so I fully embraced it (Sanja Matsuri) and would love to make it next year possibly.
I’m amazed that this ritual is very similar to that in India 🇮🇳 ...we call mikoshi “Palkhi” here .Love from India 🇮🇳
That looks fun! I know carrying around over 1 tonne is not fun at all, but doing it with friends makes it all the better. Sharing the same experience, ya know! Also, an inside look at Japanese craft beer would be cool and educational. Thanks for sharing!
Super interesting video. Nice how everybody there had a great time. And Naoto seems to be a really nice guy to hang out with :) too funny when he commented the taste of the curry ;)
The Japanese festival is incredible, I love it! Great video, Paolo! 😃👍

To me, Japan is the CROWN JEWEL of all of Asia. No other comes close (especially China). Japanese culture is just amazing.
Uhhhh, you know Asia isn’t just Japan and China right? I don’t think South Korea or Singapore is that behind Japan.
well this festival is so amazing
there are many people join in the festival to join up like a party
so many people are crowded to lift the heavy one up like they are having fun time
Great festival tradition I love it!!!!! And free curry and beers!!!! Also enjoy weekend vids Paolo!!!!!!

Very interesting and great camera work. I'd love to see more of these types of videos.
Looks like a great way to practice community bonding, people working together and getting some exercise at the same time.
Hi, I have been watching a lot of your vids, all are great but, I loved this one the best! Please keep up the good works.
Love your videos! It was great meeting you in Japan and I still think about it!
Paolo, I love your videos! I feel like I might have met you before or had a friend or two like you before. You remind me of some of my close friends from Ann Arbor, Michigan. You also remind me a lot of some friends of our family we met when we lived in Oakland, California. You have such a great electric and contagious personality! Keep up the great work!
I really love this video ! Well, I love your videos in general ! And funny fact: before you've said it is in shimokitazawa I was thinking : I think I know this place... :) I fell in love with shimokitazawa so I will be waiting for the craft beer place video ;) ;)
Just discovered your channel a few months back, as my fiance and I are going to Tokyo on our honeymoon in April! Anyways, love your videos, you have an awesome channel! Can't wait to explore the streets in a few months! 👋From Austin TX!
i would love to have a friend like naoto
Im so in love with Japanese's culture. wanna be a part of this
That was awesome. Thank you for sharing! I actually visit most the places you recommended in Kyoto. Thank you again! 🙏
I was worried about you after the quake...great to know you're ok.
Love to see the festival!! 😍
Yeah I'm surprised they even had this after a typhoon and that terrible earthquake... many people lost their homes and died I don't know if I'd be celebrating at any Festival
@@Jesuscares7680 tbh what is the point to be sad the whole day instead celebrating life, tradition, good company and family? It's something I never understand at our culture, at the point where you can't help the victims of tragedys why you have to punish yourself? push the life into darkness and feel pain? no one will get alive if you feel sad the whole day. No one gets a home back if you sit at your home alone and don't celebrate with your family and have fun. Donate something so they can rebuild or have some food, thats the only help you CAN do, but then why be unhappy?
May I die in a tragedy, it would be nice to think one minute of me, but after that pleeease go and love your life, celebrate, be happy.
This is like paddy’s day in Ireland 🇮🇪
Naoto is super cute
When you said you gonna finish your video, I thought your friend probadly got drunk ????, then he just showed it. Love it 😆👍👍👍!!!
Omikoshi carrying is emotional. Yes, getting a bit drunk after is perfect
