If you are not responsible enough to keep firearms away from children as well as teach them a healthy respect for them, you should not carry. My 3 and 4 year olds see me carrying and handling every single day and mostly don’t even care or say anything about it. Every once in a while, they want to take a look in the safe.
"if a good trigger makes a difference your fucking up" true words of wisdom!
When I was a teenager, my dad had his pistol in one of those cheap plastic gun cases and he had one of those shitty red trigger locks that come with many guns. Always knew where it was, even if he didn't know I did. One day I was home alone and someone started beating on that door and, being alone in an apartment on the 5th floor with nowhere to go, I opted to create a key to access my only means of defense. The key in question is just a knife that I heated up with a lighter to melt and cut around the padlock on the case. The padlock came right out without any issues and a set of pliers twisted the trigger lock apart in even less time than it took to get into the case.
Gotta give props where they're due, great problem solving skills!
One time in middle school i saw this lock on one of them TV stands that would wheeled in. It wasnt locking anything in place but i liked it. Took about 2 hours to brute force, kids got time
Have a 4 and 6 yr old girls. It's been difficult. I've taught over and over for no touch without supervision policy. Their curiosity hasn't gotten bigger than their distain for punishment. We shall see.
If you have a sword make sure you teach the kids proper sword safety
Sure, but not todlers. Todlers are stupid as fuck. They are cunning and curious they will find anything. But they are stupid - it takes years to train one just to speak..
I was taught gun safety and handling very young. Back then I had terrible thoughts about myself and other people. I'm very grateful my parents had all of the firearms locked in a safe that I couldn't access when I was going through bouts of depression. All these years later, I still always have everything locked up and unloaded. The exception being my EDC, when I go to bed it sadly goes to bed in a cheap safe.
The “collection” is in the safe. The EDC gets locked in a 511 pistol case at end of day. No access off my person. The key is on my belt loop all the time. I carry a grip of keys, not bragging, and that adds a layer of obfuscation for anyone who’s looking for the key. All that to say, stay vigilant with kids, with everything.
I was taught about guns at a young age with my siblings. So were my friends. All during my childhood no one in my school got hurt by mishandling firearms. We all had the old glass gun cabinets. They were a piece of furniture, a point of pride. We children were all taught to respect that. Somehow it all became lost
Wanted to let you know I thought the drone shot was pretty cool. It showed you can actually hit the target and that your not full of shit>. Garand Thumb had a dude on his channel once that claimed he could hit a target at a ridiculous distance with a .22. Was so dead set he could Mike paid for his plane ticket out, and he failed miserably. Glad your doing better BTW.
You, Nutn and PNW Guerrilla make these 45 min toilet trips feel like 45 second poo poo trips.
😅
Carhartt fired employees who wouldn't take COVID shots. They also donate money for gun control. But I still wear Carhartt because they are the best easily accessible work wear.
“I don’t care what your guys’ recommendations are, or what you think, because I’m right.”
….you know, he’s right though. Snowflakes getting offended, pay attention. This dude is trying to help you!!! No b.s., no sales pitch, just truth!
I've been told more times than I can count the a broken hadow systems is better than any glock Otta the box.
So thank you for being honest about them.
Same here, I've been saving for one. Think I want those 2 weird themed caniks instead.
I have three of the stopboxes. They are plastic so they don’t do anything for theft. But they will keep kids from getting inside. I have four pistols. Two G19s, M&P compact and a G34.
I agree with the first part. My dad had thought me and my brother the 5 rule of safety. Even so after we got back from a long hike and he put his gun on the island to unpack the truck my younger brother picked it up (it was still in a holster and he was only 4/5) but still even knowing the rules won’t always be enough.
Appreciate you, Overton.
Hm... well, I'm getting a 3D printer soon in the mail, so if we can get the negative of your hands and get it converted to an STL from a CAD drawing for a Glock frame, should be pretty easy to print out an 80% that you finish off with holes and such yourself.
Watch out on the files you downloaded. Consider, having a separate computer off-line you use for 3-D printing? Your overlords are always watching.
@@nme_trap I'm not out here commiting crimes with my 3D printer and I sure as hell wouldn't talk about them on the internet if I was.the
“you remember the shit that you did”… the wisest comment about kids in general, ever!
I like the stop box. I have one at home on the nightstand and one at my office in the cabinet. Keeps the kids out. Before that it was in the gun safe and not accessible at all (yikes)
Maaan that shot was dope! And the footage was dope. I appreciate the content!
Thank you for this.
Im not your usual gun admirer.
I think this is the biggest problem with the optics of the gun community, and if it was taken seriously would solve alot of the bitching from the left.
Edit edit: I like the data. 😢
Edit esit edit edit: we definitely should have mandatory fun ownership and training paid for by taxes. 😂
Carhartt fired employees for not taking the Jab. It's cool though, the purple head kids wear it now.
Firing pin on my Glock 19 sheared at the tip. Only had a little over 1000 rds through it. Easily replaced, but I was training with it to use as an EDC. Can't trust it now.
What about Glock 48 for new gun buyer? I was leaning towards that instead of 43X.
For a 900.00 clone, that damn thing should all but sing to me.
I agree with you on Glock or S&W for first guns. But what are your thoughts on a Walther PDP Compact? I love mind.
You can get the thicker mil baggies, put TK4 tourniquet, decomp needle, foil cover, nasal pharangeal airway tube, & H bandage in it, should fit in cargo pocket
I keep a SOF-T TQ on the back of my belt using two rubber bands. The rubber bands last about a month usually and I've got a ton more of them, so replacement isn't an issue. If I need to get to it, I can just grab it and pull to ditch the rubber bands, but it stays put otherwise. Biggest problem is that it's a pain in the ass to put on or take off when I'm switching my belt to a new pair of pants, but it's a small price to pay.
I use the Hornady Rapid Safe to store my bedside gun. You can program RFID tags to open it, use the key pad, or use a key to open it. Fits my Glock 17, my Ruger LCR, and spare ammo for both comfortably.
I had a Sig P226 TACOPs when I was younger that I had to carry for a job.
I live in a place that allows the 2A again, so I bought another one. Been open-carrying it and was considering getting a P229 for concealed.
Yeah, I know they'll find the key, it's around my neck at all times, unless I'm showering when I tie it around the curtain rod...
I do not let my kids see me remove/holster/store my guns because I don't even want to tempt them with the thought of looking for it. They have minds that absorb every little minute detail of life, they WILL get struck by curiosity to go looking.
Clarifying question about 12:02 when you're talking about first guns. The comment seemed to be about first guns in general, and when you went on to talk about the 3 best options for a first gun you specifically said carry options.
Anyway my question is, do you think someone's first pistol should be with CCW in mind? Or did you just mean those are the best options if you're getting your first CCW?
Would you list the same 3 guns if your friend said "yeah, I dunno about carrying yet, but shooting seems like a fun hobby and having something for home defense would be nice."
Mostly ask, because if I was getting a friend into shooting and gun ownership in general, going straight to the assumption they're gonna carry might be moving too fast.
So, my solution (that works for ME) is the vaultek slider safe. Overton is correct that the biometric sensor can be finicky, especially in a high stress situation, but it also has a keypad that you can program a 4-6 digit code.
Now like everything else, practice is key. Just like you practice the motions of unholstering your firearm and getting sight picture, you’ll need to train getting to your safe, getting where you place your finger to unlock it, train punching in the code, train yourself to give your finger a quick wipe on your shirt before you scan…etc.
I noticed you specified not to get the m&p 9 EZ for your first gun and to go for the standard model. That’s exactly what I did (EZ performance center) curious as to why you you made that distinction. (Genuine question)
I'd like to have both an SBR and a braced pistol because the SBR is better in every way, but I live close to state lines, and transporting an NFA item over state lines is a pain, but hopefully, that will change soon.
Overton! I got giant mitts and I want to conceal something that has full frame power and ergonomics but a skinny guy could maybe conceal carry. what 9mm glock do you recommend?
i was on the edge of my seat before you said glock 43x because i have a glock 48 but IDC. the 48 is awesome, extra barrel length never hurt me i would hope you agree brother 👊🏻
Yeager would carry mini trauma kit in his ankle, I have disc issues I'd never attempt that. Made Wallet sized one for cargo pocket
When I was a kid we would go shooting until I was so, so bored and tired and ready to go home, and it was made clear to me that if I ever even went looking for the guns without an adult it would mean an apocalyptic hiding. They weren't objects of mystery to me or anyone else in the family and I never even saw where they were kept, because we weren't allowed in the master bedroom alone.
Ive been shooting since I could walk and guessed my dads bedside gun safe combo on the first try when I was like 6. Never fucked with it because I knew better but it was nice to know it when I was home alone later around 10-12 when my parents had to go to the store or went on dinner dates just incase someone broke in.
This topic doesn't relate to me but I'm leaving you a comment because I support what you're doing
If you have astigmatism,
You will have to get torric lenses for contacts and they can be a bit stiff. I don’t wear mine much anymore and wear my glasses. If I go shooting then
I don’t need eye gear
I keep mine in my sock drawer unloaded when it’s time for bed. My kids are also not allowed in my bedroom. I do have a safe that I use but that’s also secure in my closet.
You had to Run Away after "you're not wrong" 😂😂😂😂😂
I've gone to all stretchy clothes vs the heavy duty stuff. Cept for the dog park and land scaping
I EDC an ankle med kit because I work construction. It is pretty comfortable even in the summer.
The numbers support that the risk to your kids to have an accident is higher than a external perpetrator. Lock it up gents.
Same thing for having a pool on your property. Don't own pools
Theres no perfect solution for the kid thing. Your gonna have to give up something. Some more than others.
If you don’t know what to do with a gun with a toddler around… you don’t need a gun. No need for a whole video on it, but sure. I’m an Overton fan
Can't it just be said that if you decide to play in traffic that you gotta expect to get ran over. The road is where cars go.
I put mine in a bedside gunsafe that goes in my night stand and the keys in a child proof container up in the closet. It has a biometric system and key for of the battery dies
I know you’ll bag on this but Eufy has a safe that will text you if anyone touches or attempts to get into the safe. I love it.
It’s a 900 dollar pistol I would be upset
carhartt supported gay rights and people lost their minds
Moulded grips to fit your hands seems like something serious target pistol shooters would probably do already
someone spell the name of that big glass optic he mentioned....
I really enjoy the Q&A format, thank you.
I dont think a toddler would be able to pull a gun out of a level 3 retention duty holster. But yes keep that shit somewhat locked
I loved the actual monster can video👍🤠🇺🇲 The movie scene shots sound baller, too.
Not only "I would have found it"... but like... I had a single mom. She would have rather me find a gun than find her "toys". I absolutely found her "toys" before I even knew what they were.
To her horror, I thought they were lightsaber daggers and came our swinging them one day with the neighbor kid one day.
If she had been tasked with hiding a firearm and NOT chosen a method to lock them up, we'd have been dead. Maybe some of yall were smooth brains who didn't root around everything looking for new stuff... but I wasn't anywhere near the most inquisitive kid, and my mother had a false bottom in the highest shelf in her wardrobe. Well above my head. I still found em.
Everything is novel to a kid. Everything is worth exploring to a kid. Your hiding places are their "I wonder if there's loose change here" places.
Edit: I said "one day" twice in a sentence, but cannot manually edit the comment.
Shield plus also good. Sigs feel weird to me
I feel like we would get along well.. people are stupid 🙄
Lol 4d smooth brain is a good one
The only gun that feels molded to my hand is a pdp
Hellcat pro 😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈
I didnt close my eye when you told me to HA
Vote for Me for US Senate. Tester has had his run needs replaced. Montanans deserve better. DC wont like me as i enjoy ruffling feathers with the Truth. God. Family. Guns. Country. #elkaholic #accuracymatters 💥 🇺🇲
Great recommendations for a first time new shooter. Those are truly the only viable options if your looking to actually EDC. I love my RMR but dude you got me addicted to trying out the cyelee optics, they've been awesome so far. Now all my pistols have dots. I even put the cat pro on my 365 for when i don't feel like carrying the 19. I trust the cyelee way more than the POS romeo zero that came with the 365, the thing was dead on 2 separate occasions when I got home for the day.
My kids are older. This 6 not relevant to me. But "pound sign" 😂😂😂😂 way to date yourself, young man. 😂😂😂
I still don't understand when that change happened. was it twitter's?
@subculture6924 since social media started using "tags" i think?.? I'm old and don't even use "hashtags". Not even sure how it works, lol.
The equalizer is the better S&W Easy. It takes the Shield plus mags and it is optic cut. Still easy to rack.
The G19, G43, G48, P365X/XL/XMacro, S&W Shield Plus, S&W M&P compact are all great CC options. The Hellcat lineup and the new FN compact offering seem gtg as well.
I've been thinking about doing the molded grip idea for a while now. I'm working on other projects but it seriously could be reasonably easy to accomplish so I wanna try it. Cover a dowel with molding putty and try to get a good grip on it like you would gripping a pistol. Then try to use one of the myriad of scanning devices/softwares to get a relatively accurate 3D scan of the molding. Then from there it's a small hop and skip to CAD over an existing frame. May not be exactly viable to put on an oem frame but to actually print a new frame with that mold. That or make silicone sleeves over your existing guns. Hmm, Something I've wanted to explore a bit.
Wont need to be too good of a scan either. Even a pretty good general fit would still be nice and personal. I'll start some more brainstorming ;) I'll keep you updated if I ever manage to make this work.
Vaultek safes for bedside Firearms. My wife and I each have one. Can't recommend them enough.
Thank you buddy
Life's about choices and everyone has them.... some people learn the hard way and, that's part of the "liberties" some people don't understand ....... I leave it on my nightstand because I don't have children but if my nieces and nephews come over they all go in a safe except the one I'm carrying on my body. Proper gun safety and knowledge are key factors in keeping people safe I'll leave with a quote- 'They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. ' Benjamin Franklin
I have all my guns locked with a key pad. My first pistol was a glock 17. I am 6'2 so it is a little easier for me to hide it. This was also 17 years ago. Now I carry a p365 comped or a g19 comped. I have the 43x for the wife. We got it the first month it came out. I have daggers, but they are for the range or for people who I am helping learn the basics. Good stuff man keep it bud.
In my experience, the EZ is great training tool. Until the EZ, my mother was reluctant to go shooting but has been going shooting with my father every week (sometimes forcing him to take her). She did this for about 4 months before she asked me how to get a red dot on the pistol. After trying to get her to carry for years, in the span of 6 months, she went from nothing to the EZ to a PDP f w/ rmr, tlr7, and is signing up for defensive classes on her own.
You are 100% correct on the biometric safe being a bit dodgy under duress. My solution was to store the same finger multiple times at different angles. I still don’t trust it 100% but it seems to work.
Couldn’t agree more. I use Vaultek safes for my carry guns that someone could easily walk off with, but my kids can’t get into.
I have a 6 and 11 yrar old at home, I conceal carry every day, when the gun comes off the body it goes into a lock box by the bed or into the thumb print and combo safe. I also keep a couple of rifles under my bed that arent for self defense use in Hard body nylon felt cases with combination locks on them. That being said, my kids are both very aware of the dangers of firearms and are constantly discussing gun safety with me, and they both occasionally go out and shoot .22 from the bench rest with me to get them comfortable handling real firearms safely. So far i have never had an issue with either of them attempting to access any of the firearms, i know this because they are all stored in on camera locations that i review regularly. I have had two slip ups with my concealed carry gun over the years, once leaving it under the seat of my car (a place I rarely placed it in at the time and never place it in anymore) and forgetting about it until my wife was at work in the vehicle, thankfully no kids had been in the vehicle. The other time I removed my holstered weapon from my pants too put on long johns before work and forgot it on the coffee table rushing out the door, luckily no one was home and the gun was on camera in that location so i was able to turn around and watch it until i made it home. These two instances scared the hell out of me and have made it so that now my weapon never leaves my body unless it is going directly into a locked container.
23:30 you said it’s the natural state so I grabbed a scope and looked through it. When I look through with my right I I don’t see the magnified image I just see the cross hairs but when I take it to my left I I see a magnified image. Am I left eye dominant or do I need to try something else.
I bought a vaultek when my wife got pregnant. Its been good for us. Probably going to buy another one soon.
Someone recomended a safe from hornady that has a spring loaded drawer and is controlled by a pendant or your phone, you just hold it near the safe and it springs open. I havent looked into it yet but sounds like a good idea.
I have a buddy who I helped install a wall safe because his kids kept trying to get at it. Mounted it only where he could reach it and threw some stereotypical photocollage over it to hide it better. His wife thought it was over the top but all it takes is one time to get that code right and shit gets real faster than you think.
Yes
Next thing they are going to request is a laser temperature of the barrel to prove you did or did not have a cold bore😂
👏👏👏👏
Thanks man I really get a lot out of your channel and I think it's pretty cool that you are able to use it to fund your hobbies. Cheers
At the moment we have a StopBox for every pistol, and the box is out of sight.
I make sure that little man never sees us open them.
CZP10
A safe is safe is what i was thought by my dad. He was a felon and we coudnt have any, but that was his view.
I’ve got a handful of pistols of those maybe three that are vetted that I trust to carry the rest are range toys and I’m ok with that
Welp I will say I know exactly what your talking about I’m dealing with it too 😂 with a dagger frame and a 150$ lfa Rmr cut slide but I mean I AM IN IT under 300$ NOT 900 plus Jesus I expected issues in this shitbox I’d be pissed if I spent 3x as much to have this issue
Will say it’s absolutely not for carry it was a cheap range toy to see if I like the dot have my carry rotation set and VETTED
Well, I do have a katana and crossbow as close at hand as anything in my guns safes
Who are you supposed to be fueding with?
Need a 3 way collab with PSR and HexiBase to do the molded 3D printed reciever.
Can you recommend a non pistol for like home defense and not conceal carry? As cheap and practical as possible, like, will rarely if ever be shot.
Shotgun?
AR15. No shotgun. S&W M&P 15 Sport 2.
I will be investing in a short sword a shield
What is you thoughts on the zev oz9 series of pistols
