I mean, there are the ads with a slightly higher budget for an equally crappy game that have actors pretending like they actually care about the game, or praising it like it’s brought new meaning to their life and they can earn money to pay off their college debts just by playing.

Oh god. I actually finally went for one of those (Gossip Harbor) because I had to know how the eff the story matched up between the different ads I saw. I put a solid month into that game and the only accurate part of the ads was that the heroine had a daughter and an ex husband. 🙄 As far as I can tell, he never cheated on her and they were never under threat of homelessness (though the town did riot and burn down her shop for the players to fix). But, hey, maybe month two will prove that the ex did cheat with *his* ex, somehow the heroine's successful business will be yanked away from her, and for some reason the ex husband won't happily take care of their daughter while the heroine gets pregnant, literally beaten in her bed, kicked out of the house, and she and her daughter end up in the snow, before she finds shelter and lays feverish in bed, with a giant crack in the wall of her shack. (I'm oddly most mad because I swear there was a cute baker love interest who gives the daughter character some food and so far the only love interests are the ex husband and a fisherman.)
They absolutely do. There must be a whole department at some of these companies, churning out fake gameplay sequences by the adful, in one unceasing, continuous flow... all to pull in more people who don't yet know the thing you just said.
I remember that when Vampire survivor got released, Afk arena released an ad showing similar gameplay. Even though Afk arena has nothing to do with that sort of gameplay... They ended up quickly coding an optional mode where you fight hordes, and add a tab to the main game page leading to that minigame. If you had the game before they released the ad, you'll never see the button because the game mode sucks, but otherwise you get it forever (I tested with 2 different accounts). It's funny, I can imagine the advertisement company released that ad and they were suddenly scared of being sued for lying in their ads, lol.

The most unbelievable part is that they hired a real voice over for the trailer, and not just a text-to-speech program.
And the text-to-speech would have had a British accent because that's fancier.
Sometimes even real actors. Things aspiring professionals would do to start their careers.. 😢
