I was always told to drill with an upwards angle when drilling from the outside, to prevent any moisture or water migrating into the property. Bootlaces on the bell wire would be a nice touch too.
In Poland and Germany, there are chimes that install on the rail in the customer unit and they are 240v without the need for an inverter and you only run the cable from the customer unit to the doorbell button/device.
Wow, you got lucky Jordan! Haven't seen a dot and dab wall without massive splodge of adhesive directly above wall box! You may want to check there's actually some dot and dab in that dot and dab wall :-) Great vid ... was shortlisting a new smart bell, as it happens.
Nice one Jordan. Another nice video mate. Classy work as always. That chime pattern though, I'm sure everyone will look back in 10/20 years and look at it like artex ceiling and say wtf were people thinking!?
I agree. It's a really popular pattern for tiles right now but I would hate to have to clean tiles like that. I also saw one person complain about the silicone looking ugly at the edge of those tiles, but when you have a pattern like that, the silicone is always going to look shit.
Great video as always. Why did you chose that transformer as opposed to putting it in a backbox with a blanking plate over it like you did on a previous doorbell install? No criticism, genuinely wondering.
I've installed most brands of video doorbell including Netatmo, and my pick is the Eufy Video Doorbells. The build quality is far better than any of the others, and their feature set, their app, and the ease of use, is far superior. They recently launched a dual camera doorbell with the extra camera facing downwards for smart package delivery detection. Eufy also has a smart deliveries box that you can bolt to your front porch and you get notified when a delivery driver is at your door. You can unlock the box remotely for them to safely place your packages in the box and close it again, and it then locks. When you get home, you open the box and retrieve your packages. It also links in with your doorbell.
Eufy's name is now mud. They lied about their security claiming the video never goes to the cloud when in fact it is sent unencrypted to insecure cloud servers.
I have used A Eufy wireless battery rechargeable door bell and Eufy camera good for 365 ,and 180 days between charge , they can be mains wired as well . Nice thing is there is a base which recordes all the events so there are no ongoing cloud storage costs etc . Good pictures/video and good sensitivity incorporating siren and led light as well .
I really like the way you describe the whole process and options rather than just showing how put it on. As a novice installed I find myself spending ages thinking about the best way to do things and this is really helpful. I don't think I would have thought to get the power from the lx radial, mainly because I thought only lights should go on it, but I guess you an put little appliances on it as well. :)
Hello thanks for posting, I have a question. Can you add another persons phone who lives at the house so that they can speak to the person at the door if you can't ?
Great video. After having spent some time with it, have you found the portrait video is not capturing anyone standing to the side of the door once they press the bell? I worry the portrait video capture means the field of horizontal view is too narrow in practical application.
That's what I was thinking. The Honeywell Classic D3126 has a transformer and is even mentioned on the Netatmo website in the section "How to wire my chime module". There's even a picture!
Great video as always but as you regularly comment on EICR's that backboxes don't have grommets fitted, would have been good to see you showing this important safety requirement being installed. Keep up the good work and look forward to next vid!
Great video, with great explanations and footage of the work, I’ve been thinking of doing an instal for a while now, not sure if I’ll go for Netamo but would like and apple viable bell as I’m also a fanboy lol
When my Spark wired using the 'method 2' option the doorbell didn't work. He wired it the other way and it was fine. Note if you need to reset the doorbell you need to take it off, plug in a micro usb connector with a battery pack attached to provide power then press the reset through a little hole. Very strange reset system but it worked.
could have chopped in a fast fix box vertically behind the chime, and put a transformer in there, that way only the chime would be on show... Nice job either way though 👌
Funny that, i just installed my battery 2k eufy. Will consider the wired depending on if i find a doorbell useful day to day. Got to say, the human detection is a big plus and compliments 24hr cctv.
I got around 40 days with motion detection on, and since installing my cctv I changed it to only record when the button is pressed and it barely uses anything now.
I do like the idea of these doorbells, same as the Ring, and nest door bells... but what is stopping someone from walking up, pulling off the wall, and just selling it?
Interesting thing about the Netatmo doorbell is that it operates using extra low voltage and is IP44 rated... but, look at their outdoor smart camera that is low voltage (230VAC) and it has no IP rating at all, not even as much of a seal as their doorbell !! and that coating you speak of does not provide a seal to the 'chocbloc' type connections. As such, on an uneaven brickwork, rendered or tyrolean surface, there is nothing to limit water ingress.
What core cable do you bring down to the door bell ? Your average doorbell works like a permanent down to the doorbell then the switch wire back up to the Chime So how is the video senser erc permentley fed please?
Currently using a ring pro with transformer but no bell chime , would the netatmo work the same way with a resistor fitted & the chime module as I want to use HomePods for audible chime
Do you (have you) used one of those offset screwdrivers, where the shaft is bent and one hand cranks the handle while the other holds it close to the bit end?
Questions: 1. Do you have to have a Nest or Amazon device to make this work, because I don't want to subscribe to them just to run my doorbell... 2. Are there any shims you can use to put the unit on a left or right angled camber, (to better see driveway) ??
My concerns... Depending how you answer, the indication is that no-one is on the premises, therefore a green light for Mr Billy Burglar. Then all he has to do is lever the unit off the wall as he departs the scene. I am guessing that the video isn't automatically saved to your iPhone? As the data storage is in the unit, once it is gone, so is your evidence. Can you configure the system to copy the video footage to your NAS box?
Since finding out that Santa isn't real, I've been on the lookout for a new magical person. Your drilling might just make you the perfect replacement for Santa :)
Great video, really helpful. I just installed one myself and used this as reference. Can I ask do you have a loud humming from the Chime module? I’m not sure if this is normal or not. All set up correctly but just worried in case it’s an issue or will cause an electrical problem
I have just followed this video as reference too and had the same loud hum and eventually after 2 days a loss of power to my doorbell. Re-reading the netatmo manual seems to suggest to the chime module should be connected parallel to the chime which would be 0F and 3. Not had any noticeable hum since and following the manual I had to switch my module to 1-HIGH
Excellent vid. I totally agree with you on powered not battery door bells. Video even better! You have to be careful as there is a lot of cheap and nasty doorbell kits / video units out there. You also have to watch out re the ones that use cloud storage as the fees can be prohibitive OR you get light storage / fast deleted or no recording function. Stay safe! 👀
Please can we have a link to those quick connect terminal blocks you used in the light switch back box? These look so much easier to use and far less bulky than the traditional screw tightened old school ones. They would totally solve a wiring issue I have due to not enough space and too many wires to connect.
Just a matter of interest, why din't you go for the Ring door bell? Allot easier to fit without the need of using a transformer and the bell plugs on a socket!

Does it comply with British technical rules having a PELV/SELV cable together with mains cabling inside one switch junction box?
