Ok... all you professional "mudders" out there, chill out! He's not teaching us to do this for a living. It's a DIY home job for those who want to get it "semi-right" without it becoming a total disaster. I found it perfect to help me get the job done.
@@gardenfork Because your 10 minutes saved us a few hundred if not thousand dollars. I am sure most people need this to get a quick job done. I tried my basement, and I got half a day in when I realized I needed to call a professional. Fixing a wall, a small remodel, this is why the internet exists!
I'm a professional drywall taper/finisher in one of the best Union's for my trade in North America. This man is obviously not a professional taper, but he is a thoughtful person. Few people know how to properly do this sort of work, and that's because we keep our trade secretive. However... for the average person who can't afford to hire a pro to do some necessary work in their own home, this can be the difference of them having a presentable room for their children to grow up in, or not. I respect the fact that this guy took time out of his life to post this video, whether it's a professional job or not. He is contributing to society, and making this a better world for anyone who wants it to be. It makes me think I should do the same. For so many of you people watching and making negative comments, I guess that's your right... but maybe instead of leaving any sort of negative comments... you could just keep your mouth shut and make your own video. I don't need the video, but apparently, a lot of people are happy for the tips and demo on how to do this themselves. Bravo! Keep it up.
Exactly. It was nice of you to not rip him a new asshole like the other pros here! Most of us watching these videos are DIY'ers who just want to get it done quickly without breaking the bank, and it was nice of him to put this together for us.
Can you get away with only doing 1 coat of mud on inside and outside corners? Have new drywall and our drywall taper says he just has to do 1 coat on the inside and outside corners. Doesn't sound right to me.
This is like a kid who just learned how to dog paddle decides to make a tutorial on the process. Yes, he is swimming and shows you how he does it, but it's not something you want to replicate.

Are there in tools small enough to fit between a door frame and about four inches or less of corner space? I can't figure out how to apply the mud over the tape in such a small space???
dude if you don't tape your corner bead it will crack. Every time you bump the corner and the building shifts all your corner bead will crack if it is not tapped.
GardenFork im stuck on a tight angle...it's too tight to angle the blade...i can only lay it flat to the board...is there a trick to tape'n and mudding these kinda angles or do i just caulk it?😰Help?!😔
Siggghhh. I am so ashamed. I use a plastic mud pan because it is cheap and does what it's supposed to do. I feel badly because i don't use a metal pan so i can look cool and pretend i am a professional. Sheesh... All you professionals bitching because he's not doing it your way.... You forget... He's explaining something that takes a lot of practice to people who think they cant do something.
soldatheero it's best to wait and let it dry between coats. The main reason is each coat will shrink. If you put two coats on at once by bedding it and then immediately coating it you'll get more shrinkage than by letting each coat dry before applying the next coat.
hot mud dries fast too fast if u ask me it would more than like crack as it dries i dont like n never use it i want my mud to dry fast but i wont use hot mud it maybe good but i dont know
paper tape is always better to use fiber will crack faster than paper i dont use fiber tape at all and u dont have to wet it it serves no purpose to wet it the water in the mud will put enough moisture on the paper tape
His knife is a bit messy. He definitely seems like an amateur. Plastering is an art form that takes year's of experience to perfect and this guy is most certainly not a pro. Not sure how he got so many views. 🤷🏻♂️
@Jair Perez for what reason are you here then? What knowledge were you seeking in this video that 12 years of experience hasn't already taught you? You are either a lier or a premeditating troll
If you have your mud at the perfect consistency where it's a little runny then you don't need to wet the tape. If your mud had dried up a bit and it's hot mud so you can't just add more water to loosen it up then wetting the tape a bit helps it bond to the mud.
never used this before - wet the paper - except yesterday - done this - and it works very well ....can not put alot of weight on the blade or to do not pass over and over .....this is our mistake along with we found that the paper sticks to the wall mud better if the paper is wet and we wanted people to know ................do it your self ...... for the first time you have to start some where

This has to be the worst method I ever saw: however it's better than nothing. This poor guy uses way too much mud and it looks too thick. Those inside corners are whoppers haha
Americans is it really too difficult to call it filler rather than mud ? It says filler on the bag , you get mud in the garden . I despair at you lot .

Drywall work isn't secretive you just wanna hype up a easy ass trade.
Ben oui and it takes a few 100 hr before mastering any trade or musical instruments keep on do it
Thanks for the video. Rookie here and this video helped me finish my drywall in my spare room. It isnt perfect, but it came out good enough for me!
The close up camera work is awesome, really needed this video to help finish my shed walls. Thanks!
I love when Dad's make youtube videos. So genuine
Excellent display! Clear and precise. Thank You for taking the time to post this! God Bless!
Thank you for the video. It helped me out
straight forward and informative.
Great job, but you should never mud over wet tape also you will have a lot of sanding..... Use a little more pressure on the edges
Good tips
Thanks dude
Now this is what I'm talking about, quick and informative. Thank you for your instruction.
+Deanna Davis Thx Deanna! appreciate the kind words, eric.
Great info for this DIY'er! Thanks for taking the time to post :-)
This is a great video!! Thank you!
my temper brought me here
+freshy sorry to hear that. mud and tape is not easy, take it slow. thx.
Its all good Kyle
Did your mom put you in time out?
Me too!😤😂
😂
My favorite thing for outside corners is the metal glued to prayer. You can just mud it in, And a lot smoother
Jeff Taylor yes, i learned about that new corner product after we did this job. i'll have to make a video about that. much easier. thx! eric.
GardenFork make that video now please this is so difficult ^^
Great video, thanks.

Flat joint not featherd bed to do multiple thin coat then one big glob less sanding
Thank you so much!!! Please ignore the nasty comments. They would never contribute with their own video but will tear down others.
exactly! I can't believe how RUDE these people are. He's just trying to help the "non-mudders" get through it, and I also found it very useful.
Thank you for this video!!!

where is the other drywall sanding video?
Best use Multi Tool With Drywall blade Quick and clean.
Good job
Are there in tools small enough to fit between a door frame and about four inches or less of corner space? I can't figure out how to apply the mud over the tape in such a small space???
hold your tool at an angle so it fits in. or buy narrow putty knives at the hardware store. thx!
A butter knife
My windows have metal beads, but the paint is chipping and showing the metal which drives me crazy. Can I tape over the metal beads?
Thanks! Beginner here. Just one question. Can’t you use the other white tape on the butt joint?
You can, he’s just showing his preference
Great step by step instruction...I am going to attempt my inside corner joint now!
take your time, you can always do it over while the mud is still wet. thx!
You need to pull the mud from behind the tape before you coat over.. in my opinion
Cool
dude if you don't tape your corner bead it will crack. Every time you bump the corner and the building shifts all your corner bead will crack if it is not tapped.
That one drywall screw on that but joint was annoying lol.. it was in the way the WHOLE time!! Screw the god dam screw deeper
Do you need to put or use drywall metal bead on the corners if you're going to put wood trim or baseboard around an entry way? Awesome Vid!
if the trim is wide enough to cover the edges of the drywall, i think you are ok not using the metal bead. thx!
GardenFork im stuck on a tight angle...it's too tight to angle the blade...i can only lay it flat to the board...is there a trick to tape'n and mudding these kinda angles or do i just caulk it?😰Help?!😔
Well done.
Have you ever tried to blend drywall into lath and plaster?
Patti Simmons yes! welcome to my world: ua-cam.com/video/7X7hnR2dpiE/v-deo.html
GardenFork what type of mud are you using? Premix or 20 min stuff.
You should do a video on caulking, if you haven't done one yet.
+laccanvas caulking hides all sorts of mistakes, i use it a lot, cause i make mistakes! eric.
caulk to save the day.... paula cole has me stuck on you tube....can't stop watching, maybe I should caulk it, ha.
Can you just use your finger all the way down the crack? Do you have to go out and buy that tool?
if you use your finger you will get a ridge. maybe one of your neighbors has the tool and you can borrow it? thx!
can i just use a folded cardboard in the corner???
I don't install drywall for a living but I'm a project manager and if I see my guys doing what this guy is doing I will fire them
Ed Faures
As if you know how to do it, Just because you are a project manager doesn't mean you know what you are talking about!
thank you garden fork great video very interesting.
michelle from down under in bundy thanks Michelle, from what I understand, in Australia walls are finished with a plaster finish? thx, eric.
GardenFork yes they are and they dint so easy .
Nice a plastic mud pan. All he needed was a set of plastic taping knives. I totally would've subscribed.
Siggghhh. I am so ashamed. I use a plastic mud pan because it is cheap and does what it's supposed to do. Hi
how can I fix a crack?
V notch - paper tape with all purpose- 2 layers of topping mud or quicksand 2 day process
awesome! thanks.
It was actually really helpful. But that screw head man, that was picking at my soul..
Give this man a break. At least he tried.
how come i wach one video and they say don't put mud OVER the tape on the first coat and the ni see this video and he does just that??
soldatheero it's best to wait and let it dry between coats. The main reason is each coat will shrink. If you put two coats on at once by bedding it and then immediately coating it you'll get more shrinkage than by letting each coat dry before applying the next coat.
Because he doesn't know what the hell he's doing.
Oh good lord 😭
Come on
Thats a disaster
Steve Cooper couldn’t agree more he will be there all day sanding after that train wreck! He needs to press the undo button on this whole video
Never trust a man that is scared to get mud on his hands or uses mesh tape
hot mud dries fast too fast if u ask me it would more than like crack as it dries i dont like n never use it i want my mud to dry fast but i wont use hot mud it maybe good but i dont know
That corner knife and that dollar store mud pan shows that he is not a real drywall finisher.
Hi Gage, never said I was, this is all about me sharing my experience, shares yours if you like. thx!
This is a nice guy trying to help ppl. Just great!
how do YOU know he got his guppies at the dollar store, dont be a meanie, this was a big help for me
@@samanthacerna3192 lugnut, lol. More like an ahole. I learned something.
Probably shouldn't be making a video on how to do this
Glad I aint sanding that shit LOL
paper tape is always better to use fiber will crack faster than paper i dont use fiber tape at all and u dont have to wet it it serves no purpose to wet it the water in the mud will put enough moisture on the paper tape
No proof that fiber cracks anymore or less you idiot.
Fiber only cracks if you use the wrong mud. It’s designed for fast set muds.
So do u prefer paper or fabric tape. I'm fixing where a ceiling leak was between where the wall and ceiling meet. Any advice at all

only people that don't really know what they r doing would wet the paper tape it serves no purpose to wet it no whats so ever
actually, for me, it does. it allows the compound to dry slower so i can work it more. thx!
If you have your mud at the perfect consistency where it's a little runny then you don't need to wet the tape. If your mud had dried up a bit and it's hot mud so you can't just add more water to loosen it up then wetting the tape a bit helps it bond to the mud.
GardenFork wouldn't you want it to dry faster you mean. Slower makes no sense
only place i use paper tape is in corners and i wet it just so that way if for some reason the mud started drying it can have more adhesion
never used this before - wet the paper - except yesterday - done this - and it works very well ....can not put alot of weight on the blade or to do not pass over and over .....this is our mistake along with we found that the paper sticks to the wall mud better if the paper is wet and we wanted people to know ................do it your self ...... for the first time you have to start some where

yeah i agree! Its not mud its joint compound! I own a autobody shop and I will fire the first dumbass I hear calling body filler MUD!
Are you talking about joint compound? Or spackle? The only thing I've seen labeled filler here is spackle. 🤔
