    It's not a coincidence that the satellite pollution data shows the exact same situation for North Korea. Does that mean North Korea is as exactly as developed and industrialized as South Korea is?
    The pollution does not come 100% from China. However, a prominent portion of it is from China. The expert's statistics in this video accounts for the air statistics during normal days, not the severe ones, and even that gives you a number of 40%. 40% IS from China even in normal days! Now when the pollution reaches its peak regularly, the satellite data clearly shows the cloud of microscopic air pollutant slowly moving from mainland China to Korea, and then to Japan, and then gradually dissolving in to the Pacific. Korea is currently the country most damaged by China's air pollutants and I don't think it's too difficult to see why unless you don't live here. It's definitely not helping that the Chinese government is intentionally focusing their industrial facilities to the eastern coast of China either.
    Edit: I just don't understand how this video is claiming that the Chinese cause being anything less than 100% somehow pardons them from any of their faults. Do we, do the Koreans rightfully deserve an extra 40% of Chinese air pollution?
    Nothing against Chinese people, really. I love Chinese folks! I just hope we can cope with this issue together and make our air cleaner please :( It's really killing us sometimes...

    • @dwgreen108
      @dwgreen108 5 років тому +6

      It's not like we're denying that there are domesting causes to the pollution here. I agree that we should be working together to solve this, but that's where the problem occurs. We're doing all we can to solve our end of the problem. We're doing campaigns to persuade people to stop using their own cars and take buses and subways. (We have campaigns once in every month when all the public transportations are free for the whole day.) We regulate restaurants to stop using plastic cups, chopsticks, platic bags etc etc. But that's what we're doing to help ourselves, and is none of your buisness. Just like we don't give two craps about what you're doing to help yourselves.
      The problem is, what is China doing to stop their damage to other, neighbouring countries? Clearly, as even you are acknowledging through this video, China has a prominent part in the current pollutions. So is China making any public statements to how they are going to compensate for their pollutants outside of their territory? Have they given any sort of apology? Have they at least acknowledged that they play a part for once? No. That is the issue here. The issue is not whether or not we Koreans are taking care of our own crap. The issue here is, why is the Chinese government freely damaging other countries with their own industrial residue, and don't even give a second glance about it. And yet, this video and so many Chinese folks claim China is pardonable because both China and Korea share their faults for the pollution, in Korea! The pollution in Korea! It's okay cause half of it is their own and China accounts for only half of it. Who cares right?
      Do you see the irony here?

    • @Daisy-lb1ge
      @Daisy-lb1ge 5 років тому +4

      And it's not like China isn't trying already... Fast development and clean air don't go hand in hand. Can you imagine how the Industrial Revolution was like in the West, when their machines weren't as advanced and "clean" as now?

    • @ashikgurung3391
      @ashikgurung3391 5 років тому +6

      Agreed but I think the expert in this video says that China is doing whatever it can to reduce its own pollution, and doing so at an extremely fast rate. In the last few decades, china industrialized at a blazing rate and now that it’s less obsessed with growth, it’s reevaluating its impact on the environment. So hopefully China’s environmental policies work in the next few years but that also doesn’t give the Korean government leeway to be less focused on its own domestic pollution. It’s up to the Korean people to accept some responsibility as well and add pressure to their government to regulate the coal/natural gas industry and reduce pollution overall. If both nations work towards the same goal, it’s a win win for the Chinese, the Koreans and the world as a whole overall.

    • @user-rv6cs5hy7o
      @user-rv6cs5hy7o 5 років тому +1

      Yes, they do something for resolving it after recognizing how harmful it is. They announced the solution we are waiting for here was that they are going to move more factories from east to west coast to reduce pollution in the cities. It seems to be a permanently effective solution but not. Rather, it causes us living in Korea to suffer from more serious pollution from East because wind blows from east to west in winter. Do you think that it is good solution to make others the scapegoat for iron their problem out? As for me, as long as damaging others, there is no solution, just makeshift selfish way.

    전문가 분은 말 잘하고 있는데
    딱 팩트만 제시하고 있잖음. 미세먼지 농도가 평소에는 한국의 영향이 크지만 겨울철에 30일 가량은 중국의 영향이 더 크다. 이건 우리도 알고 있는 사실임. 한국의 책임이 몇 퍼센트냐 유도 질문하는건 스티븐이지 전문가분의 잘못이 아님. 단체의 입장에서 중립성을 유지할 수 밖에 없음에도 한국의 영향이 더 크다를 강조하기 위해 계속 유도질문하는걸 보면 50~86퍼를 86퍼로 헤드라인 걸어놓은 국내 언론사랑 다를 바 없음. 그리고 중국의 대기오염 농도개선이 우리보다 빠른건 사실임. 하지만 우리나라의 정치체제로는 빠른 변화가 어려움. 왜냐 우리는 일당독재국가가 아니니까. 그럼에도 스티븐은 한국이 강제로 차량통제등을 하기 힘들어 자발적으로 이뤄질 수 밖에 없다는 사실을 전문가가 설명해도 이해를 못하고 이런 문제가 빠르게 해결될 수 있냐고 재촉하는 질문을 던지지. 이는 이 영상이 한국과 중국의 정치체제가 달라 중앙정부가 강제로 통제 할 수 없다는 사실을 이해도 못하는 미국인의 말장난에 불과하다는 걸 증명함. 통계학 공부했던 사람으로서 이야기하면 이게 유튜브 영상이 아니라 실제 인터뷰였으면 100점 중에 40점임(40점은 노력점수). 이렇게 노골적인 질문지는 일본 극우매체에서도 보기 드뭄. 제목부터봐라 미세먼지 누구의 잘못일까 ㅋㅋ여기까지 설명하기에는 제 영어능력이 부족하여 누가 번역좀 해서 올려주시면 감사하겠습니다.

    Important facts(edited). First, the joint study with NASA took only 40 days from May 2 to June 12 in 2016, when the fine dust was low. Second, Greenpeace doesn't have their own fine dust study of Korea. They instead quoted Seoul city's 2011 and Gov's 2013 data in their campaign, (which were outdated. FYI, the year of 2011 was the lowest of fine dust ever since 1995 in Seoul.) -No wonder Greenpeace leader of East Asia is Chinese.- (True, but not important.) In order to warn Korean Government they've intentionally emphasized on the Korean domestic produce rather than Chinese's, since it was a campaign for Korean according to an interview with 'Chosun ilbo'. Third, new study by KRISS proved that fine dust mainly came from China through real-time measurements of potassium and levoglucosan, which constitute fine dust. Long story short, fireworks' smoke(potassium) during the Lunar New Year in China in 2017 has increased potassium seven times in Korea. Fourth, there is a joint research on fine dust by Japan, Korea and China so called LTP, but this year China alone has objected to disclose the report. Not only that but also they shared the results of the research, that the data on China referred to the years between 2008 and 2010, which is outdated, according to KBS news. I personally am not sure whether their outcome on fine dust reduction is true or not, since China has attempted to fabricate LTP's report with outdated data. Highly doubtful though. Plus, average of Chinese contribution on fine dust goes down easily if they calculate it monthly or annually. Simple trick.

      전문가 분은 말 잘하고 있는데
      딱 팩트만 제시하고 있잖음. 미세먼지 농도가 평소에는 한국의 영향이 크지만 겨울철에 30일 가량은 중국의 영향이 더 크다. 이건 우리도 알고 있는 사실임. 한국의 책임이 몇 퍼센트냐 유도 질문하는건 스티븐이지 전문가분의 잘못이 아님. 단체의 입장에서 중립성을 유지할 수 밖에 없음에도 한국의 영향이 더 크다를 강조하기 위해 계속 유도질문하는걸 보면 50~86퍼를 86퍼로 헤드라인 걸어놓은 국내 언론사랑 다를 바 없음. 그리고 중국의 대기오염 농도개선이 우리보다 빠른건 사실임. 하지만 우리나라의 정치체제로는 빠른 변화가 어려움. 왜냐 우리는 일당독재국가가 아니니까. 그럼에도 스티븐은 한국이 강제로 차량통제등을 하기 힘들어 자발적으로 이뤄질 수 밖에 없다는 사실을 전문가가 설명해도 이해를 못하고 이런 문제가 빠르게 해결될 수 있냐고 재촉하는 질문을 던지지. 이는 이 영상이 한국과 중국의 정치체제가 달라 중앙정부가 강제로 통제 할 수 없다는 사실을 이해도 못하는 미국인의 말장난에 불과하다는 걸 증명함. 통계학 공부했던 사람으로서 이야기하면 이게 유튜브 영상이 아니라 실제 인터뷰였으면 100점 중에 40점임(40점은 노력점수). 이렇게 노골적인 질문지는 일본 극우매체에서도 보기 드뭄. 제목부터봐라 미세먼지 누구의 잘못일까 ㅋㅋ여기까지 설명하기에는 제 영어능력이 부족하여 누가 번역좀 해서 올려주시면 감사하겠습니다.

No matter from which country the air pollution takes place with which proportion, it is a positive sign that all humankinds are on a same page. As technology drastically improves, hopefully, better solutions and gadgets could be invented to stop ongoing pollution from being rampant.

      It is undesirable to mention domestic fine dust contamination as a percentage. In case of high pollution rate in Korea, it is mostly sunny and windy day. On these days, the figure is about 5 to 20 micrometers, where the domestic factor is 80 percent and the fine dust concentration is up to 16 micrometers. On the other hand, the sky feels heavily foggy and foggy, and sometimes more than 300 micrometers when the wind blows from China. And that's 70 to 80 percent of the foreign dust pollution. So pollution gets intense every day of the west wind.
      Many Koreans know this.

    I have read that South Korea wants to replace all Buses and Taxis with electic vehicles by 2030. They also want to get 10.000 electirc bike for the postal service by 2020. They want to raise the number of charging stations to 10.000 by 2022. They also offer big subsidies for buying electic cars ( up to 23 Million Won total). I am sure this plays a big part in the reduction of the pollution and I really hope South Kore will become a electic car nation.

    I lived for many years on Okinawa back in the 50s and 60s. I worked in the weather station at Naha AB. At certain times of the year dust would move over the island cutting visibility to 2-3 miles. On a plotted surface chart you could see where the dust was. It came in from the Chinese mainland, as I recall originating in the Gobi desert. You could pretty well monitor its progress on the map. Since Okinawa at that time had no heavy industry I think all the dust was picked up in China. It was not China's fault, it was just nature doing its thing. I don't know if this is exactly the same issue discussed in the video. Both China and South Korea have changed much since then.

    So is the word "dust" short for particulate matter or are you referring to "dust" as smog (combination of a lot of other things)? Dust is part of particulate matter, along with pollen, but it seems like this video is referring to a lot of different things.
    Here is one definition:
    "Smog, formed mainly above urban centres, is composed mainly of tropospheric ozone (O3); primary particulate matter such as pollen and dust; and secondary particulate matter such as sulphur oxides, volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides (NOx) and ammonia gas. The severity of smog in an urban area is usually assessed by measuring ground-level ozone."

      But hey, don't feel sorry for us tho, taking blames it what we as Chinese have gotten used to. After all British blamed China for the trade deficit just to justified their invasion afterward and now US is doing the same thing. Compare to these, I don't actually care SK and its pollution blames as long as they are happy, because we are dealing with the problem but they aren't even recognizing it.
      Anyways, let's just hope for a better and industrialized future.

    A Chinese comment passing through. I went back to China on both Dec 2016 and Feb 2018. My home is Xingtai, Hebei, a city suffered really bad from smog in the past few years. (If you search for it, Xingtai was the most air polluted city in China)
    Dec 2016 was really bad. One reason is that's winter, the peak of coal usage. Another reason is that Xingtai is home to many factories like glass, charcoal and so on. It's near the end of Chinese new year and they are rushing production. On that time, I can only see the traffic light when I'm in side the crossroad. Visability is like 10m.
    However, things are really different in Feb 2018. No visable smog in my home. The government is doing some serious efforts in cutting the smog "Close all factories that pollutes execdes certain amount". There were once a policy strictly enforcing rural areas from using coals, but that's the only way to keep warm so they don't use that policy no more.
    Air pollution is serious in China and India, but that also was the problem for SF and London. Anyway, sorry for being so near to China, but if Korea is trying to solve some smog problems, do it with China/India. It will be a great diplomatic move as well.

      FoodforThought Yes, London was 100 yrs ago. Los Angles was 70 yrs ago, and now China and India are both highly air polluted. But as a new born country, PRC need its economic strength in order to gain anything else like golf court or organic salad. We used aggresive methods to make economic changes but now we also realized the pollution we have done. If you see my comment, the policy now priotizes environment over development in most cases. So things are getting better.

    Thank you for this and I hope many people watch this! A lot of the Korean people I meet also have this idea that it's all coming from China, but even without any further research I already doubted the legitimacy of that belief based on common sense. Worldwide, pollution and other environmental concerns are challenges, and I hope that instead of pointing fingers, we work to reduce our emissions, because whether it's here or there, pollution is problem for everyone.

    • @regisphilbin222
      @regisphilbin222 5 років тому +4

      Oh yeah, it's substantial. China has a massive problem with pollution. My point is is that environmental degradation is a global problem, and unless you actually aren't emitting anything, it's pointless to put so much blame on someone else (and avoid your own responsibility) while doing next to nothing yourself.

    Guys, It's happening now really serious problem in Korea. If you search fine dust from China to Korea satellite picture, you can understand it easily. The problem is that the major part of chinese people don't accept that dust is not from China. And ridicuolously they did a solution like in Shanghai, Beijing or somewhere densely polulated area. And they moved factories near in Korea. Why? So they can avoid this air polution, and they use to coal heating. After heating those rest things, they didn't buried it, but let stack up like a huge mountain, and burn it to reduce. Immagine those of heavy metals and how many chinese people are.. When the wind blows a little bit from China to Korea, we just breathe those things. And they have plans to build more garbage incinerator over 200. Furthurmore they insist that major part of dust is from Korea. Guys, you cannot immagine that this dust how dangerous it is. It's like a carcinogen. If you close the window, this dust is like nano size, it can enter in your house. When you wake up morning, you cannot see the blue sky. If you want to walk around, you should take a mask all day long and your dog also cannot go out. And childrens? Old people? We're suffering from this ridicuolos situation quite since It is higly regrettable for chinese people and goverment. I miss so much my country when it had the clean blue sky. I never expect this tragedy, BUT WE SHOULD KNOW THE FACT, ALSO FOR OUR EARTH.

    Okay This is shocking for me as a korean 😂 I really thought that China is the most problem but I guess the media have concentrated on blaming China. I think 6:4 is still huge but they shouldn't hide behind it and do make big moves for reducing the air pollution.

      Korean flag🇰🇷 is a copycat, just Google " Taichi" , which created in 1500 ago.
      If u know what " Taiji" r, must know how disgusting the Korean flag🇰🇷 is
      The Korean imperial palace - Gyeongbokgung Palace is also copied from the Chinese Imperial Palace - Forbidden City, you can Google this. There are 80% similar, except color
      Korean often stole ours, as it was created by Korean themselves

    I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. Because salt lake is in the middle of a large valley we sometimes get terrible inversions, where the clouds cant get over the mountains, and holds the pollution in. On days like that, the city recommends you stay inside. But some inversions can last days. Sometimes they even recommend you wear a mask. So pollution here can be pretty bad.
