Excellent video Jim. Big difference adding those two plugins. I love the RX Voice De-noise plugin but that Waves Clarity plugin is no slouch either. Thanks for the share

Glad that was helpful. I definitely have not thrown out my Izotope tools. I'm just really impressed with what Clarity can achieve. I like it much better than the old Waves NS-1.

Way to be on top of it, you even beat my ol' VO Geek pal Beau Weaver with a test (he told me about this today).

Ha! I'm honored... It just happened to pop up for me when I had a few minutes. I must admit I was fairly tempted by the Pro version, but I held myself in check.

Heck yeah! I appreciate this Jim. I do not yet have a noise reduction plug in. If you are starting from nothing, would you suggest Izotope or Waves first? Thanks!

@@JimEdgar this is really cool. Heckuva lot of info. So when I google and seek coupons, am I buying first Standard or Elements? Feel no need to overspend, just want to keep my backside covered, so to speak.

@@duffinmedia Izotope runs regular promotions. They will be announced through their direct emails, so I'd sign up for those. At the time of this post (3/22), they just ended a couple, so I'd expect they'll offer something again soon.
You can buy Elements on sale and then do an upgrade to Standard through Izotope. Many of my clients have done so. That will typically save you a few bucks if you have the patience to wait for the promotions.
But, as I always say - I'd pay full price for RX tomorrow if it just had the Mouth DeClick tool - it saves me countless hours and the "Mouth DeClick" is not included in Elements (they have the older, quite usable "DeClick" module).

I probably should have made it clearer in this video, but FIRST I would do everything possible to reduce noise at the source. No noise reduction system beats finding an isolated space and removing noisy things from the room in which you record.
With Izotope, you are going to get the Voice DeNoise tool by getting an RX package. It comes with the "Elements" package, and of course in the Standard and Advanced versions. Izotope often promotes their various packages, so you can regularly find the RX Elements tool set for a similar $30-ish. That would give you the "DeClick" tool as well. Getting the Elements version will also give you an upgrade pathway to Standard which will save some $'s. I do recommend the RX Standard toolset to anyone doing any level of production work for voiceover - you just end up with a powerful array of tools which will serve you well for a long time.
If you have to deal with noise issues right now, this seems to be a solid choice. But long term, you'll likely end up with both.

How would it work with voice-overs that have a bit too many mouth noises and saliva crackling?

Strictly speaking, this is not a DeClick tool. I still like the Izotope RX Mount DeClick found in Standard.
However, it does seem to remove a lot of non-voice sounds. As with anything, it depends upon the source.

What software are you using to load and play the sound file?

Totally sold! And downloaded. But have no idea how to install it to Twisted Wave. Help??

With Waves stuff, it's a two-step dance... First you need to download the Waves Central from their site - www.waves.com/downloads/central - That is how the plug-ins are downloaded, installed and licensed (Izotope works that way now, too).
Once you do that, you should be able to get it onto your computer, and it will just show up in your Effects >AU & VST menu under Waves. Reach out if you have any issues.

@@JustAskJimVO Mate, Ive downloaded the thing, installed it, but the plug in doesnt show any knobs, it opens up in protools but no knobs, comes a blank plug in. Any idea on what might be happening?

@@TimemachineRACER Waves Central has both an install and a "verify" step. I'd confirm that. Also - check that you did download an AAX version for ProTools. If that doesn't do it, I'd reach out directly to Waves.
