I have watched a ton of videos on the FG knot and this is the one that finally got me to get it right. My only issue was my eyes not seeing that close up. I may need to set up a gizmo to tie this at arms length. I wouldn't mind knowing how many wraps for 50# braid to 15# fluorocarbon. Thank you sir.

Great knot as long as you tighten it down after the first half hitch by pulling non tag end braid and flouro leader.... then do another half hitch cut the tag of the leader , tie two more hitches around the braid and cut the braid ...never fails

i made the knot and in order to check it, i was streching it with my hands. Is it correct to see small gaps of the braid that reveals the fluorocarbon? does it need more tightetning in the beginning?
The "Complicated" FG Knot
Doesn't putting the half hitches "between" the tag and mainline cause the tag to stick out, and would give you trouble winding your leader past your tip guide ? Most other vids on the FG show the half hitches go over the tag AND mainline. Thank you.

OMG that's soooo simple.
Very good video. I am still learning this knot. I had a lot of trouble with my first few. They were super tight, and the fleuro never slipped. But my hitch knots slipped once i started fishing and when they came undone the knot fell apart. Any alternative to the half hitch as an insurance knot?
Bobby Rae Allen I've seen a video a while ago that said to do the half hitches opposite of each other to actually lock it in. So if you do a half hitch "above" the line, do the next one "under" the line.

you can use the same half-hitch but with more turns of the tag end around the leader. two or three turns will be much more reliable than one.

That's a great knot and an easy way to tie it. I put only one half hitch and one 3 turn uni knot. I've straightened out hooks, never breaks at the knot. Thanks, good video...
Personally I like to tie the 2 cinch knots, pull the knot tight, clip the mono close and the tie 2-4 cinch knots off of and in front of the mono tag end to build a "ramp" up and over the mono. It helps the mono tag end go through the guides smoother.

Watched about 20 different vids of different versions but like this the best, to finish I do 1 half hitch then a 5 or 6 turn uni to close of.
I tie it the same way but I cut the mono tag end before tying the last two half hitches around the braid. It helps to cover the cut end of the mono.

Why does my Fluorocarbon leader make the finger trap instead of my braid that I have on my reel? Confused ???
To members of the Susquehanna Chapter, I am forwarding the best video for tying the FG knot. This knot is used for tying flurocarbon leaders to braided line.
I had to tie the braid off on the boat, then do it that way. while holding the F/C trace in my teeth, then did the knot, it came up tight as a nuns bum right away...tied it off, and trimmed
ummm what was "simplified" about that...isn't that just a normal FG knot?

Darcizzle Offshore Ummm...Personally I had learned to tie it in a way which was a lot more fiddly than this. This video actually helped to halve the time (at least) that I tied the knot in and also to make it much neater. Much happier and more confident in my FG knot having watched this video :-)
Darcizzle Offshore What RGHughson said - I too was told to do it another way, and for that reason I stuck with the Alberto knot for ages. After having watched this video, I will be using this knot from now on.
***** Btw, once you learn to tie the Alberto knot properly, it is a very easy and strong knot... the main issue is if you plan casting the knot through the guides you have to cut the tag end real close since it faces the opposite direction to the FG knot. Tip to tying the Alberto or Albright knot is to pull the leader tag end all the way through by itself before pulling everything else tight. You will get a very strong and reliable knot this way.
So you don't actually tie any knot in the mono? You're just tying the braid onto a straight piece of mono is that right? Doesn't it slip?

Looks too complicated especially for tying on the water. I use a doubled over 8” section of braid (made by using aquadruple surgeons knot with the doubled over braid), then taking a short (3-4”) section of doubled over fluoro leader& connecting the 2 doubled over sections with an improved Albright knot, using 4 turns of braid up the leader & 4 turns coming back down. I make sure the end of braid loop goes back thru & over the leader loop in the same direction. Maybe this is called an “improved Alberto knot.” It is very low profile with 15# fluoro & 15# braid. It doesnot fail & Yi can tie it in

Ask an experienced angler to show you the right way. Once you see it done right you'll be a believer. Otherwise you still have the option to go back and tie an inferior knot using a different method.
By watching many of the FG Knot videos I would pull every 5 wraps so each set of 5 wraps is tight. When securing the knot with two half hitches pull hard as you can on the mainline braid and floro, this will set and allow the half hitches to all dig into the floro equally, then either snip off the floro close and do several alternating half hitches and finish off with the 3 turn final wrap. Now, by this point in the FG Knot it should NEVER slip off the leader material. Small sized braided line will need more half hitches than 80 pound braided line.
didn't tighten after the first 2 hitch knots... your suppose to pull on the leader and the mainline.. your line will change color from the PE tightening .. . this will prevent it from slipping . this should be called the lazy FG knot.. just a minute faster. .

This knot isn't work for 8x/8 strain braid
Aufar Raden it most certainly does work for 8 strand braid even the most high end 8 strands on the market that have a very greasy feel. You must be incorrectly tying the knot

Not sure what was "simplified" there but I highly recommend NOT using this video to learn the FG not. Watch Salt Strong video to learn it.
Not only was this not simplified, the finishing off is terrible and actually reduced the strength in the connection. This is THE WORST way to tie the FG Knot. Stick with the original plan. This is NOT a knot for compromises and should be executed perfectly.
I just tie an Alberto knot same thing very slim profile and easy to tie
