My take on bikepacking: 1) Install a rack that can handle 20kg (more, if you want). I don't understand the point of backpacks since you can have a rack *and* dual-sus, so why bother? 2) Attach pannier bags, I have two 30L Ortliebs each side. 3) Pack about 2kWh of Lithium (two 500Wh cells on the bike, two more in paniers). I also keep a 1kWh 'service' battery on top that runs lights, phone charging, action camera, grip warmers (in winter) and that sort of thing. This requires specialized construction though. 4) Repair wise, I have spare tubes, tire levers, pump (still not tried CO2) and a spare chain. Also multitool, zip ties and tape. 5) Spare clothes, but also a rainjacket of the warm variety (Elite Windcheater is nice) 6) Money, keys and little things go into a Fabric tool keg. 7) Water bottle and a liter (or more) of water, esp in the summer. 8) Weapons. Sorry but motherland is cruel, both people and dogs :)
Do you Travel with 4 Batterie Packs??? That’s pretty expensive. At least for me who is doing the first several days trip. My problem: I would love to wild camp but where do I charge? It seems I have take a hotel. At least every second night with 2 batterie packs.
Tywraps, chaintool, en quicklinks are also not to be forgotten. And a spare tube, because snakebites cant be patched. A thermoblanket can come in handy. Co2 is nice, but risky, often two cárdridges arent enough. So i prefer a pump. Smal raincoat.
Would it be advantageous to add a map section to the EMBN pages to show the locations and trails your featuring on the show please. I live in Wales and know and ride most of them but for others that don't have the privilege of living in this great country it would make it easier for them to plan a visit to ride these fantastic trails.
Hi guys great vid,I’m of to Llanhaeadr-my-mochat at the end of the month on my allmountain 7,I’ll be taking a spare battery in my XLC e23 bag for the first time I’ll let you know how it goes cheers
Where was this ride? Just got me an eMTB at 54 earth years old. Got me a Whyte G 170 S and now looking forward to getting some 'long' rides in on the new toy (As well as bike park fun) on the Haibike xDuro Allmtn 9.0. I live in Leominster, Herefordshire so I have epic Welsh Wales and all it can offer on my doorstep. Cheers, Me, Old Northern MTB'er :-)
I'm sure the guys will answer but I live fairly close and it was Llanthony Priory, Red Darren, Twmpa (Lord Herefords Knob), I think i recognised Black Hill (known as the Cats Back locally) and Hay on Wye. All in The Black Mountains which is part of the Brecon Beacons in South Wales and Herefordshire in England.
The one thing that I would take that you failed to mention, is the key to remove the bike battery. Failing at the basics again. A lock for the bike wouldn't go amiss either. Some of my kit... imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1280x1024q90/924/27zBW9.jpg
I was disappointed when you said you plan for a 20 mile ride each day, 20 miles even with the climbs could not have taken you more than 3 or maybe 4 hours, that's not an epic trip that's a usual Sunday ride. At a push you should be able to hit a 40 miler on one battery and 30miles if there is a lot of climbing. Still enjoyed the video as always...…. keep it up
20miles? I do 34 and 45 miles off road on my trance averaging 10 miles an hour. I know they done a lot of hill climbs but 20 miles is a 4 hour ride at the most! Surely ebikes can do at least 40 miles Sounds like they were on a bit of a pub crawl to me? Where do I sign up?😎👍🚴♂️🍻🍻🍻🍻
They ride factory ready made E-bikes, they don't ride Bafang kit ones, I've seen some of those people do 200+ Km. I mean I've done 50km with a normal MTB.
maybe do an episode of a ferry crossing from England to either Ireland, Isle of Wight, or France do a multi day bike backing feature. would be interesting to watch especially in winter!
the person i bought my haibike from, sold it bc she was often flying between germany and mallorca and the transport of the battery is such a hassle she said she never does this again
LOL! I think you guys should consider an alternative word for Adventure. Maybe something like Day Romp would still generate the hits you so badly want. So you ride such short legs because you are carrying so little, or vice verse? Don't get me wrong I love a good "day romp" but they are just little pieces of a real Adventure, and real adventures don't happen a few miles from where you parked the car. - imgur.com/a/zXXlyuv
My first bikebacking with e-bike
11.7 Kuopio - Koli 185km
13.7 Koli - Ruunaa 68km

15.7 Ruunaa Koskikierros mtb trail 45km
15.7 Ruunaa - Nurmes 90km
16.7 Nurmes - Kuopio 133km
Total 597km in 6 days
Please make a video of Nice trails and destinations to go on a multi day trip from pub to pub.

Yes. Best ebike so far.
my brother 😄 I've got mine delivered last month with dual battery too. Got it with a rack and now taking my 2 year old out with me to the mountains 😄

It was in the Black Mountains in South Wales!
I'm wondering how the camera biker got all of his gear around :)
Might be a bit of a stupid question but how many calories do you think you burn on these 1 day out trips ?
What about the camera-team? Wouldn't that be a Story itself?
Where was filmed please?

Steve and Doddy talk you through the tools, spares and clothing they took with them for their Welsh overnight E-Trip

No First Aid Kit, no Hygiene, no emergency Rain Jacket?
No Food Either 👀🤦🏻

mutedmonkey yep, can't run my battery out in 20 miles, regardless of terrain (I have tried in the Lake District, got 28).

how about for a trip abroad by plane? since batteries banned on airplanes
That's an interesting point!
